THE PROJECT of the thesis comes from
the desire to study and observe the landscape of Brianza, with the aim to build a series of models, not only about management of the open space and its resources, but also of a more complex socio-economic reality looking for new dimensions. The requalification of an industrial area near Briosco, previously known as “Cartiera Villa”, and the landscape that surrounds it becomes an opportunity for the inclusion of new functions benefit to the community, starting from a careful analysis of needs and potentials of the territory. A great requalification project that integrates the area of the Cartiera in a new pedestrian path in the “Parco della Valle del Lambro”, proposes interventions aimed at the preservation and promotion of a landscape strongly populated.

THE LANDSCAPE BECOME A CONSTRUCTION SITE “PARCO REGIONALE DELLA VALLE DEL LAMBRO”
THE LANDSCAPE OF VIEWS ON “LAMBRO” ”The study site is rich and has a strong content. There is the river “Lambro” with the villas that overlook its course, giving rise to an interesting route of knowledge of nature and culture. The views on the bottom, the mountains “grigne” huge and magnificent, act as a backdrop of this stage.“ LAND Milan. PROJECT PROPOSALS AND ISSUES TO BE DEVELOPED:

DESIGN AND DEFINITION
SIGNAGE The pedestrian path is designed as an interactive and intuitive tool that can facilitate the reading of a complex and multiform landscape. The cycle path becomes an element of communication that can “explain” integrating spatialgeographical indications with other notions of historical and cultural nature.

ENERGY CENTERS & RIVER The thesis comes from an INTERRUPTION of the the main connection Monza-Erba, caused by the presence of two industrial areas for a long time in discussion in the towns of Verano and Giussano, to establish a reflection that lead to create a model of land development applicable to other areas of Brianza. The opportunity to reconstitute a path interrupted and a NEW PEDESTRIAN RING, becomes an opportunity to reconnect a whole territory. It is not just a management model of an open space, but also about a more complex socio-economic reality that is currently looking for new dimensions.

MASTERPLAN - DESIGN AND DEFINITION In a landscape full of events have been used two different criteria of reading to decipher the relationship between energy centers, cultural centers, agricultural areas and their landscapes. The architectural episodes, whether villas, stables or mills, for their own character of spatially defined events have been interpreted as “KNOTS”, key elements through which the path can be developed. Moreover, the landscapes, hills, rivers, fields, have been interpreted as homogeneous portions of territory easily recognizable and identifiable by common morphological characters: “BANDS”. The identification of a possible roadmap for the hypothesized path has had as a requirement the selection, among the many roads and trails available, of a path that had as its main feature a strong and recognizable relationship between the bands crossed and nodes affected.

A building that was created as a real architectural machine, result of the study of the different characteristics of the area and at the same time capable of becoming ordering element. Architectural object can enclose in the conformation of its interior spaces the multiple tensions that come from the context, translating them into new flows and paths. Not a simple building, but a tool of relationship for the entire masterplan, point of arrival and reception of visitors, but also of sorting. Extraordinariness of the function, which is denounced by the exceptional event and its architectural vocabulary technologically advanced, in a traditional architectural landscape.

Architecture between Memory and Critical ex british concession,
Shanghai

selected project for participation at biennale di venezia:
13. INTERNATIONAL ARCHITECTURE EXHIBITION: common ground
The project operates in the geographical area of Waitanyuan, in Shanghai, ex British concession, the area affected by the presence of a fragment of European city and with a particular architectural identity. This area also features the meeting of Suzhou and Huangpu rivers, the intersection of which originates the Bund, known economic and commercial center, vital throughout the period of the concession and even now important testimony of the foreign presence. The project aims to an interpretive key to arise between the historical memory of the existing urban tissue and a modern reading, achieved by the critical intervention of a completion of an urban empty space. The design has investigated the historical reasons of the settlement in the area, focusing on uses and types of setbacks and alignments. The intervention was designed as a path along which take form architectures capable of integrating with the context, locations of public functions such as a music school, a library and a media library, and interventions of requalification of existing buildings, sites of prestigious functions such as a workshops for artists, a contemporary art museum, a theater and a dance school. They stood on the new waterfront which provides a closer relationship between the river and the city. Theme chosen for further study is the north front of the project area that is a symbol of the area itself left unfinished as the gap present between the old Capitol Theatre and the building of the China Babtist Pubblication. The project has developed the completion of this area, through a building capable of functionally connect the existing buildings. New functions settled, a dance school and residences for artists, have allowed us to preserve and enhance the artistic vocation in this old theater, supplementing and enriching it with new services. Lost contact with the Suzhou river has been found thanks to the inclusion of an underground theater that has access through the narrow passage left between China Babtist Pubblication and the new project, then down through the central hall, and finally open up with the foyer on the river front.

In the spring of 2012, the School of Architecture and Society of the “Politecnico di Milano”, along with an international group of Schools of Architecture, has been invited to contribute to the project 40,000 Hours on the occasion of the 13th International Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale - Common Ground, curated by David Chipperfield. They selected 29 projects developed for the Master’s Degree thesis, in the laboratories of the Master of Science in Architecture and of the third year of the Bachelor of Science in Architecture and Environmental Architecture in the three offices in Milan, Mantova and Piacenza.

ANALYSIS OF THE URBAN STRUCTURE
the territory of Lodi
>> 3 PTP
Parco Tecnologico Padano
The new museum of the “Parco Tecnologico Padano was born from two different realities. In this place, city and country are observed between them, facing each other, often their approach and now, they meet. The need to think about a new environment within the park provides an opportunity to reconnect a physical space currently unstructured and also give to the city a chance to regain possession of its country. Therefore, the project has been generated by the meeting of two great acts that cross the territory of Lodi, one from the city and the other from the country that meet and collide in the heart of the park. The idea that accompanied throughout the design phase is to create an architecture that we can ride, discover and live both inside and outside, becoming itself path and vantage point.

Doppia Cascina a new residence for the Parco Lambro
The project is located within the precious area of the “Parco Lambro” in the town of Milan. This privileged location can only suggest how design theme to re-evaluate and enhance the functions and activities within an area severely affected by the break of the nearby highway. The intervention has as its objective, approaching the existing farmhouse “San Gregorio Vecchio”, to complete and increase the range of activities and services now lacking in the east of the park. To respond to the cultural-tourism trend, the existing farmhouse will be dedicated to educational purposes as well as the old stables. The central building compared to the two courts, now used as a warehouse, will instead be transformed in the resale of agricultural products resulting from agricultural activities. The project also includes, to the north of the project area, the construction of a teaching greenhouse used to grow and exposed inside the courtyard to the south. This offer is also continuing with the creation of a restaurant, an activity of rental of sports equipment and a B & B. Furthermore, given its proximity to the various universities we have opted for the localization, within the area, of a small student house. Finally, starting from the objective to integrate functions that have different uses, we have also included the presence of several residences.

THE DRY TECHNOLOGY The project’s explicit intention to insert volumetrically with discretion in the context, but at the same time intends to characterize and distinguish the structures already in place for materials and technologies used. In contrast to the massive technology used in existing structures of the farmhouse it was decided to explore the use of light technologies that ensure facility, speed and economy of installation. The dry construction reduces in this way the impact of the construction site in a particularly delicate context. It was decided to combine a system of light and dry interior walls and exterior walls to a steel support structure with corrugated steel slabs.
