i, my name is Alessandro and I was born and raised in Rome where, in 2014, I graduated from the “Università degli studi Roma 3” with a Bachelor’s degree in Science of Architecture. I decided to complete my academic studies abroad, and in 2016 I graduated from the “Aalborg Universitet” with a Master’s degree in Architecture and Design. Here, among the kaleidoscopic variety of features belonging to the Nordic Architecture such as honesty and simplicity, I had the chance to understand and analyse the theme of sustainability and the environmental protection. I firmly believe in Architecture as the science of observation and understanding of what surrounds us, leading the Architect to investigate the world. Nowadays, in this frenetic and “rhythmless” era, tradition and culture are the main features which differentiate us one another. Therefore, it is really important for an Architect to experience a completely foreign context, out of his comfort zone, to expand its knowledge and to create new interests. Thanks to this principle, I always try to push myself towards new horizons, with the aim of learning and getting inspired as much as I could from people and buildings.

Objectives Seeking a position in an environment which pushes the current boundaries of my skills, striving to gain the respect of the team through strong communication, teamwork, presentation, graphics skills, and the ability to handle sustainable design.

his is a project for a Guggenheim museum located in Helsinki, Finland. The aim was to design a building able to evoke the Guggenheim spirit as a landmark and at the same time incorporate the fundamentals of sustainable theories. The spaces inside the museum are thought to be as flexible as possible with their own separate character. This includes large and low spaces, dark and light rooms, straight and organic areas. The idea of the fluidity and the free spaces is also reflected in the use of ramps which leaves a clean result, free from elevators and stairs in the public areas. The flow is kept as simple as possible with one continuous route that leads the visitors through the museum and back. The roof itself plays an important role in creating dramatic transitions between the museum areas, emphasizing the scale and fluidity. The cafĂŠ and

restaurant are thought to be a pleasant and interesting space where visitors can enjoy the landscape after the visit at the museum and add another dimension to the experience. The offices’ area is flexible and pleasant to work in, with hight ceiling and a good daylight factor. The auditorium, which is located in the administration area, is thought to have a good acoustical performance. The urban flows have been taken into consideration in order to attract visitors coming from the main street and from the park. The bridge is a visual and physical connection between the site and the observatory park, which is one of the highest and most populated green spaces in the area. It works as a spine where it connects the functions on one side of the building to the other, whilst also distributing technical appliances like veins in a body.

Personal tasks: Mapping and analysis, concept development, definition of the overall design, illustrations and visualizations. SKETCH THE SITE RENDER AMOMA

THE PATH Tectonic Design, Structure and Construction, MSc 01, 2014, AAU, Group work AutoCad, Rhino+VRay, Illustrator, Photoshop, Grasshopper, Model (Laser Cutter)

T

he project consists in the design of a church complex in Aalesund, Norway. The main idea was to integrate in the building two very different functions, one more practical and laic (the offices) and the other one more spiritual and sacral (the church), making them coexist. This challenge has been overcome by designing a path which strikes through the complex and not only divides the functions of the church, but also allows the genesys of a dynamic space. The path becomes the spine of the building where all the functions branches from. Following the topography, the path has its highest point in the middle of it, where the churchroom is located and it lowers down at the end, connecting

the church complex with the external funeral chapel and the cemetery. The architecture of the church coexists with the strong Norwegian nature, instead of prevaricating it, continuously letting it appear inside. The path presents meditation points, expressed through the metaphorical use of the four natural elements, where the visitor can stop by. It ends with an underground cloister, situated under the funeral chapel. The structure is envisioned to have a celestial feeling through the use of light and the optimization of it, in acoustic terms. The detailing of the structure is inspired by the techniques used in the Norwegian Stave Churches.

Personal tasks: Mapping and analysis, concept development, definition of the overall design, illustrations and visualizations. CONCEPT THE PATH RENDER THE END, CHAPEL

he project has is located in Aalborg, close to one of its main infrastructural axes, Vestebro road. The design was thought to keep an equilibrium between two different approaches to sustainability: one oriented towards the respect of the context and the other one towards building techniques. The main goal was to design highly qualitative spaces and to guide the users towards the respect of nature by pushing them towards a limited energy consumption. The envisioned atmosphere of the sun lighting up green areas, the sound of children and the smell of coffee and fruits from the urban gardens was thought to strengthen the relation between Human and Nature. Simultaneously, the apartments achieve the envisioned idea of guiding

the user towards a sustainable attitude. Speaking about the different levels of privacy, the project is clearly divided in layers. The upper levels are the most private, while the bottom ones, mainly host common functions. The ground floor is completely public. At this level, four different urban spaces are outlined. The first coming from Vesterbro is the square, a linear and flexible space, open to different uses: a market during certain days of the week, an extension of the adjacent commercial areas during sunny days and a meeting and sharing square in the rest of the time. This complex reaches the standards of a zero energy building.

Personal tasks: Mapping and analysis, concept development, definition of the overall design, illustrations and visualizations. CONCEPT CONNECTIONS MODEL THE BUILDING

21 The overheating throughout a year presents in the different areas of the two apartment typologies, is within the standards reported in the new Danish building regulations.

INNER GARDEN VILLA

he Inner Garden Villa was an ongoing project located in Teheran, Iran, in a steep mountainous area. The building presents two hypogeum floors and two floors above ground. The bottom one is located at the same level of the lower street, where the garage can be reached thanks to a twenty meters long tunnel. This design was inspired by the traditional Persian architecture, especially from the configuration of the courtyard houses and their micro-climatic effects. These particular homes are thought to have a central courtyard around which, the functions of the other rooms, can change according to the season in order to get the perfect balance between their use and the rooms’ climatic conditions. For this reason a central patio, which vertically cuts the three main floors, was designed for the villa. My assignment was to help the

architect in charge, to design some parts of the villa, investigating materials and making visualizations. I personally worked on the design of the swimming pool, located in the basement of the building, following the clients’ suggestions. Their aim was to recreate the feeling of a thermal bath but at the same time have the warmth and the intimacy of a familiar place. I was also involved in the idealization of the retractable glazed roof on top of the patio, with the aim of avoiding the heat loss during winter period and to allow natural ventilation during summer time. The overall design is a modern concept that keeps the ideology of the traditional Iranian houses. Moreover, I worked at the presentation of this project for the “NAI” (“National Architecture Institute“, The Netherlands), making schemes and illustrations.

his project is located in Stompwijk, a village in the Dutch province of South Holland. This piece of land, handed down from one generation to another, was originally used as a farm. The clients wanted a modern design with a flat roof, mainly organized in one level in order to avoid the use of the staircase when they will age. Following the request, the design was developed in order to have everything in one level and only an office studio in the upper floor. The main idea was to place the long side of the building along the road, in order to have the prettiest view towards the nature. Unfortunately, the initial design did not fully fit in the building regulation. After two years

of variations and changes of the design, the studio got the approval from the city planner. From this moment, I was involved in the realisation of renders and illustrations. Moreover, I was in charge, under the project manager supervision, of the realisation of administrative drawings to be presented at the municipality, in order to achieve the final building permission. I partially worked on the design of the top floor, where the studio is located, choosing materials and making proposals for internal and external spaces, in order to get the approval from the beauty commission.

he Tianyi Headquarters, located in Shanghai, is the health-related finance and investment arm of Healthwork. It is a reconversion project of an old factory, which was previously used to produce bearing spare parts for SAIC, into an office. The building has two storeys, and is thought to be a flexible and pleasant working place, providing the users with all the services needed. The importance for the client of a fluid internal flow, plays a crucial role in the final design, which has been thought to be continuous and clear, from the first floor, dedicated to the administrative and financial department of the company, up to the second floor, dedicated to the management area. The considerable height of the ceiling of the first floor and

the demand of the client for a large number of offices and meeting rooms, led us to design a mezzanine between the ground and the first floor. The office serves 30+ managers that, despite working outside the office, also need individual spaces. I was involved in the design in its latest stage, producing technical drawings to be presented to the constructor and designing some areas of the building. I also personally worked on some furnitures, such us the counter, for the office and I took care of the realization of the staircase. Together with the project leader in charge, I regularly provided reports on the progress of the work, weekly visiting the building site.

his research is a close investigation of the process of industrialization in Shanghai in the twentieth century. It reveals a particular history and potential of the city, identifying the knock-on effects of industrialization in the context of a relentless form of urbanization that is synonymous of China in the last decade. This exhibition contains three sets of historical analysis, urban models and architectural interventions made by the office. I personally worked on the Caohejing Hi-tech park analysis, leading the whole research and the requalification of an old

factory, located in Tianlin road. The late-industrial forms and organization in Shanghai would suggest that the industrial typology is highly unstable and evolving, with a stronger need for hybridity. The analysis led the design towards a more open environment, thinking at the ground-levels as public spaces. The original structure of the old buildings has been kept and the faรงades have been redesigned with a clean approach, in order to let the tubes stand out from the rest. The latter, work as grafts, bringing new and original functions into the three blocks.

T

his project consists in a robotic factory subdivided in an administrative core connected to a production department and to a warehouse. The client’s primary wish was to establish a physical interconnection among the different functions of the factory, so that all the departments could dialogue in a fast and effective way. The west wing of the building must include robotic manufacturing, prototyping and studios for product development, while the east wing must become the administrative block. Production and office should have two different entrances and a connection among topographic levels can be considered. Since accommodation for workers is not

longer needed, less parking is required. The landscape of the area suggested a vertical connection of the buildings at different heights. The project proposal consists therefore in an administrative tower, visible from all the complex and directly connected to a low building, housing the production department, through a bridge. The function of the latter is to fuse the two departments in a shared program, offering gathering and leisure spaces to the workers. For this project, I was involved in the concept phase and design process, producing 2d and 3d drawings, conceptual and functional diagrams and participating at the meetings with the client.
