VENICE ARSENALE Atelier of Heritage, Iuav Venice Part of the arsenale of Venice previously owned by militaries has now been acquired by the municipality. The site has been in a state of decadence and abandonment for a decade. The aim of the Atelier was to recover the arsenale, connecting it with the contest of the biennale and the city. The project has three main aspects. The first one is a public path that crosses the galeazze and connect the Celestia with the rest of the Arsenale. The second element is the Fab Labs that allows the reappropriation of the spaces on behalf

of the inhabitants of the city. The third element of the project is the museum. A ramp crosses the covered public square and leads people above the storage and working area of the ancient boats. The museum works both to show the structure of the galeazze itself and the storage of the historical boats. Another layer is added via the introduction of VR head gears that allow a visual reconstruction of the galeazze at the time of their use as construction yard. The architectural solutions focus on resolving the ambivalences of public and private spaces.

◄ Public path conncecting biennale and celestia.

◄ The relation between the galeazze and the laboratories is mediated via the introduction of a new volume with the new functions.

◄ Museum created via a ramp that crosses the Galeazze.

THE NETHERLADS Dwelling design studio, TU Delft Amsterdam, a new connection in the south part of the city gives new opportunities. The aim of the studio was analyzing the road and three different sites along it in order to project new residential areas. From the analysis emerged that this area has a strong relation with the sportive implants. The sports structures act more as detached Islands that as a unified organism. Given this strong relation public services had been built alongside with the residential area. The residential area has been projected with the aim in mind of creating a middle-density hou-

sing with enclosed green courtyards. The courtyards work on different levels. They are enclosed and common between the houses, fostering the communication between them. They are flexible allowing the inhabitants to choose whether open or close themselves into private gardens. They help create a sense of ownership over the land, allowing modification and the growth of vegetable gardens. The architectural typology that allows this is the wall. The wall, translated and cut allow to control the level of permeability and intimacy of the spaces, and give rule to the structure.

LOW TECH FACADE Building technology, TU Delft The project focus on the redesign on a facade for the maritime museum of Rotterdam with the keyword low tech in mind. Low tech has been interpreted with this design as a reusable construction system (OS), with natural ventilation capability and natural light control. The Openstructure OS system has been used for the project of all the element of the facade. The idea behind it is to have a universal system that can allow the reuse of the materials of the construction without going to the resource demanding process of recycling.

All the pieces are dimensioned by using the OS grid that became the common vocabulary. Design for disassembly, through self-evident construction and that together with the use of reusable assembly techniques, will facilitate adaption and reparation.

URBANISM Urbanistic studio, Iuav Venice Starting from the analysis of the reality of the Italian city sprawl, typical of the Veneto region, we chose key points along the connections between the cities with disconnected urban fabric. The Ex Seminary of Selvazzano, near Padova, it’s been dismissed after few years of its construction, together with economical reasons there was the problem of the totally disrespect of the context in wich was inserted and frequent flooding problems due to the water of the river nearby. The urbanistic project operates at the city fabric level giving new birth to the infrastructure via the subdivi-

sion and increased permeability with the city. On the other side, the project aims to resolve the flooding problem via the modification of the park near the river that allow a natural absorption of the exceeding water. New functions, alongside with residential, has been introduced in the area, in order to give an answer to the recent development of the area that is now part of the new GRA of Padova.

Concept that illustrate the modification of the tree of the roads. Starting from a reality where the car has the priority over pedons and bicycles the project flips the order.

◄ The new park along the river allow the absorption of the flooding, creates a connection between the two part of the city, and finally function as a barrier to the future development of the new residential implants.

Green production and commercialization allow the new area to self-sustain and product for the rest of the city.
