Step 01: Backstory and inspiration
For this project I was mainly inspired by the space-crafts found in the Star Wars universe and the Mass Effect universe. They best fitted my idea and my vision of what a spaceship is and how it looks like. Although at later stages I drew inspiration from things nobody would even think of like corn. 3
Backstory Year 2961‌ On this is year, one millennia ago the first human took off from the surface of the Earth and succeeded in the first man operated space flight. One thousand years later humanity roams from one solar system to another seeking the new Earth. In approximately 2200 year the painstaking quest to finding another life form in the universe gave result. An alien message was intersected. The Earth decided to make contact with the aliens, which proved to be their biggest mistake. After a 300 hundred year long war campaign the Earth was lost and humanity had to flee for their life to the depths of the galaxy. Homeless , the humans established temporary settlements on planets with bearable conditions, but it couldn’t continue long. They needed a place on their own, a permanent home. On their last settlement the humans created super-carrier class ship Exodus, the first and only ship of its class, enormous space fortress. Ever since creation the ship acts as a capitol, sheltering the human government as well as being a command center and base of operations for the military. The Exodus is a home for nearly one thousand men and women. Nearing two kilometers of length the Exodus is the most massive and endurable structure the humans possess, thus it acts as the backbone of the entire human fleet. As well as used as a command and communication center while in combat, the Exodus carries near 250 fighter class man operated ships. The massive armor and the size makes the Exodus nearly still target while in combat, needing the fighters on the front the Exodus is equipped with anti-air guns and homing rocket launcher systems to be able to defend itself if under attack. The Exodus runs it’s engines on a composite high density fuel, which the humans restock when they encounter an inhabited planet or a space station.

Step 02: Order, structure and meaning With a handful of colored blocks, each having it’s role in the structure of a spaceship we needed to create a lot of combinations, quick prototypes. This stage needed to define the dimensions of the ships components, as well as their arrangement and become the skeleton for the further development of the project. The results can be seen below.

Step 03: Form and Shape Out of all the block prototypes we had to choose 3 and continue improving them. The goal of this step was to define the outlook of the ship. Having already made the skeleton we needed to create the skin of the ships. This step took shortest for me, since I already knew what I wanted my ship to look like I use blueprints from the block prototypes to make very quick sketches in photoshop to experiment with the things I still needed to make decisions on. The results of this phase can be seen below.

Step 04: Details Not much to say here, basically I continued adding and tweaking until I got the result I wanted. After that I started adding details until the complete look of the spaceship was achieved.

After a bit of editing and a quick photoshop background, the final renders are yours to see.
