PONTIANAK CITY TOUR
Pontianak the only town in Indonesia situated right on the equator line and divided by Kapuas River, and situated in the equator line. It is also well known Equator City. It is founded in 1771 by Syarif Abdurrahman Al-Qadri, the 1st sultan. Pontianak got it name from Kuntilanak which means women apparition appears in the night and sometimes seduces men for a help and she suddenly disappear in the dark. The legend Kuntilanak is spread out and popular grows become title of movies. In the past, Pontianak played important role and strategic place for trading. Pontianak lies astride the confluence of Kapuas and Landak River is an easy point to load and unloaded water vessels. The other legendary man made are Kadariah palace and Grand Mosque Jami Sultan Alqadri, from where the Sultan Used to fired cannon to frighten the Kuntilanak, and introduce Islamic teaching to the Malay people, those before were Hindus. The other historical buildings like Cathedral Church, post office and school those built by Dutch Colonial and also the man made Equator Monument, the oldest Chinese Temple and Balinese in District Sungai Raya. Sunset in the Kapuas River is the highlight of tour attractions. It takes 1 hour tour by speedboat. The tour ends at 6.15pm in the water front city, a play ground of Pontianak Society.
