(Hons) 2:1 “Architecture has been a bit of an adventure that has taken me to discover new countries, cities, cultures and languages, along with gaining a few new friends and experiences on the way. To me architecture is centred around people, not only designing for, but with them too, so I’m looking forward to opening this new chapter and becoming part of a passionate team where I can continue to grow and contribute to a better built future. I’ve been lucky to have experience in such an exposed role at Coupdeville Architects for two years in London, and then two years part-time whilst I was studying. I’ve been involved with many projects and at all stages of the design process, from all the planning and conceptual aspects and meetings to construction detailing and fiddly technical bits, not to mention all the calming confused builders and stressed clients inbetween.

Away from the ‘drawing board’ I like to keep active and healthy and love playing all types of sports, especially football were I played at a higher level. I enjoy catching up with friends and meeting new people along with discovering new things to do and understand.”

L7 Gardens - Liverpool University of Liverpool

3rd Year - 2014 Individual Work Within a deprived urban area of Liverpool concealed by surrounding houses, lies an unloved space with little activity. The brief was to work alongside a live client and form a way to bring life back to the site and ultimately the community, with the inclusion of an architectural promenade, entrance portal, outdoor covered space, perimeter wall and tower. This early morning perspective shows the gardens as it has just been constructed, portraying a strong juxtaposition between the design and context. Soon the process of growth would begin and properties would want to open their gardens to be part of the space.

Hammersmith Grove - London Coupdeville Architects

2016 Collaboration Close to our practice we remodelled the ground and first floor of this tall London terraced house. The two main concepts we worked with was how do we better circulate the house and how can we get light into the sunken ground floor level. We created a glass strip with the existing building volume which allows light to pour in and created a doubleheight zone that descends to the new kitchen and dinning area through the half level library. This project came early in my time at Coupdeville so my position on this project was to shadow my director on client meetings and site visits, so I could understand the process and the roll of the architect, along with creating all the drawings and models as required for client and planning presentations. Seeing the finished design was a huge satisfaction having started drawing the first lines of this project.

Southwark Bridge Road - London

Coupdeville Architects 2016 Collaboration

An alternating tread steel stair designed to allow for access to the roof terrace through the opening roof light above. The concept was to create a stair which flooded light down from above but kept in relationship with the industrial tone with the internal re-fit of the house. Deciding to do the stair out of steel created an attractive juxtaposition with this concept in mind. The alternating perforated tread idea adds a playful touch as you ascend into the light whilst allowing the light to pour down to the floor below. My roll in this project involved site surveying, aiding with the design, providing the technical drawings along with liaising with manufacturers on details and time schedule.

70 Paxton Road - London Coupdeville Architects 2016 Individual Work

A ground floor extension to a London terraced house. The clients wanted to open the rear of the house to host a big open plan space where they could spend quality time together. Positioning the utility and toilet in the middle of the plan allows for a natural zone to be created front and back. It was key for the extension to sympathise with the context through form, scale and material choice. The new design had to be no more then two metres in height on the party-wall with the adjacent neighbour. Using a hybrid flat roof system enabled this to be achieved by installing more rigid insulation above the rafters then in-between, gaining valuable head room but keeping the overall roof zone slim. This was one of the first projects I was lead on design and detailing with background guidance from my director when required. I was able to fully understand the process of site surveying, client ambition, construction cost management and planning restrictions and translate it into a detailed design delivery.

18 Odessa Road - London

Coupdeville Architects 2017 Individual Work

A side extension to a ground floor apartment in a London terraced house. The brief was to create a large open plan living kitchen space for the young family to inhabit. With the strict planning regulations in London the trick was to sympathise with the context. The design had to be no higher then the original garden wall at two metres and match in materiality. With the bedrooms being on the ground floor we still needed to get open-able windows to every bedroom, so we created a private courtyard internally for the master bedroom. On this project I was lead on design and detailing with background guidance from my director for internal consultation when required. I worked with the client on meetings to sculpt the project to suit there needs, from general arrangements, electrical layouts to kitchen and bathroom design along with conducting regular site visit with the contractor to monitor progress and snagging.

Productive Connection - Malmö Lund University

4th Year - 2017 Individual Work Within the heart of Malmö lies the historically vibrant Nyhamnen area, once a thriving exchange centre for the south of Scandinavia. Nowadays the space lies lost and struggles to identify itself within the urban fabric of the city. Malmö Stad is hard at work to invite solutions to integrate Nyhamnen back into the city and provide a chance to celebrate its importance in the urban setting. Productive Connection aims to enhance the many qualities that Nyhamnen has and above all provide a ‘platform’ to bridge the gap between Nyhamnen and the city; Better integrating Hamparken and Brisgatan with Malmö and initiating an evolutionary process for this area to flourish with time. The connection would provide a floating mixed-use scheme that allows for asylum seekers and young professionals to co-habit along with having start-up work units along a street front, with quality indoor and outdoor spaces for the public to dwell. Providing a connection across water also gives to opportunity to celebrate this feature and so the scheme uses the natural wetland effect to clean the harbour water locally to allow passes by to engage with the water recreationally and dwell on the protected space.

47 Lowther Street - Newmarket A Roof For A Friend

2018 Individual Work Adding a new dormer roof extension to a friends house for an area of Newmarket which hasn’t seen any developments. This extension was done under the permitted development rights of the property and needed to be respectful whilst on a limited budget. The design utilises much of the existing house and empty loft to add a new bedroom and second floor family bathroom. The configuration had to work around existing steel work already placed in the building which is rare within old terraced houses, this meant coming up with a creative stair design to work around the tricky space constraints. Key rules within the design means the new volume must not exceed forty cubic metres and only be at the rear along with many other rules. The project has just been submitted to the planning authority and is pending construction finance from the client, however the design acts as a precedent for the street which has now sparked interested from excited neighbours to instigate a proposal for themselves.

Winkworth Farm - Surrey Coupdeville Architects 2019 Collaboration NOTES

This project is the architects dream, an old abandoned set of barns which are in a deteriorated state in the British countryside. The brief was to create a big family house with a guest cottage and swimming pool whilst keeping a harmonious connection to the landscape and not appearing to ‘bulky’. The design allowed us to explore more with passive heating and light methods all along creating a functional and luxurious living programme. Within this project my roll was as internal design consultation and draughtsman for the studio, producing the relevant renders and planning drawings for the client meeting lead by my directors.
