Output Some children not getting breakfast or lunch Many kids lack the time and energy (see Feeding and Transport) or space to study at home. Mothers admitted that they are often too busy with chores &/or not educated enough to help their children with homework Many children too tired after walking home to then study

Output The need for a study space came top of the list School supplies (uniforms, books, pens, etc.) also high on the list

Kids highlighted the need not to be hungry Mothers again mentioned that there wasn’t enough time after school for the kids to study and suggested that the tricycle drivers amongst the fathers could organise a school run

Output Better understanding of the fathers, their jobs and skills Designing, Building and Running the Study Center -  More interested in Construction than Design -  Fathers with jobs can contribute through bayanihan, others can be employed on site

Output The kids described their favourite activities at school that don’t involve books and explained why these activities are beneficial and what they enjoy about them. The boys all favoured sports, basketball being the most popular, while the girls were split evenly between singing & dancing and art

They can organise transport to & from school.

Output SL to provide a Study Center and Tutors Tutorials should be on Math, English, Science and Reading Parents will help to monitor the kids at the Study Center and will ensure attendance SL will provide financial/material support for the school supplies (see above) that the parents can’t afford

Transport

If SL can provide a vehicle then parents can arrange a school service Perhaps a transport allowance for kids who attend far away schools

Output Breakfast and Packed Lunch  3 times a week (maybe every day?) Parents will do the cooking and cleaning The mothers will organise a schedule/rota, 3-4 mothers each day Rice, vegetables, fish and meat Vegetables can be grown by the fathers if SL provides land &/or seeds The fathers can provide wood for the cooking Parents will organise marketing (2 mothers + 1 father)

Fathers will help build the Study Center through bayanihan

Mothers will be responsible for keeping the Study Center clean Fathers can help with ongoing maintenance of the Study Center, fixing chairs, tables, etc.

Output Kids attend the Study Center 5-6pm Mothers will assist at the Study Center Parents produced a draft weekly study schedule If the kids are done with their assignments, they can ask their tutors to help them how to use the cultural room like using the drums, guitar or sing and etc. Fathers responsible for on-going maintenance (broken chairs, etc.) Mothers responsible for keeping the Study Center clean

Output Fathers arranged a schedule for transporting the kids, bayanihan style, from home to Streetlight and from there to school in the morning, and back again in the evening. Fathers will clean and maintain the school bus (provided by SL) Mothers will prepare food (breakfast and packed lunch) from 3am to 5am Kids will attend Study Center for breakfast before school Fathers will use SL land to grow food for the Study Center

Streetlight’s Response Streetlight propose to have breakfast at the Study Center 1-2 days a week, organised by the mothers.

Parents will do the cooking, cleaning and marketing

Streetlight will provide a kitchen and utensils

The mothers will organise a schedule/rota, 3-4 mothers each day

Fathers will use the Streetlight land to grow food for breakfast. Excess food will be distributed

Transport

Fathers who are tricycle / jeepney drivers can provide transport to Streetlight are unable to provide a school bus. and from school. Best if streetlight can provide a school bus. Fathers will clean and maintain the school bus.

Workshops

It is Streetlight’s wish that the parents will be the one to send their children to school. We strongly encourage the parents to organize themselves through workshops to ease the burden of school

transport. Mothers will assist Streetlight to organise and run the workshops. Agreed. This has started already.

NOTE: Programmes will change as they are further developed together with the parents. A close tie up with the parents is essential to the success and development of the Study Center.
