BIOGR APHY
Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, Alex has been living on the west coast since 2002. Af ter working in accounting and finance for 10 years he decided to follow his hear t and pursue a new career in interior design. Alex discovered his interest in architecture and design at a young age through the influence of his mom, who was an ar t histor y major. He took on his first interior design project while in high school, designing and building a finished living room in the basement of his family’s home. Alex shares his love for design with his sister and step sister, both of whom are interior designers. Alex relocated to the Bay Area from Seattle in 2011. Living in the Bay Area provided him the inspiration and oppor tunit y to pursue a career as an interior designer. Earning his MFA in Interior Architecture and Design from the Academy of Ar t Universit y has provided him the necessar y skill set and prepared him to succeed in the increasingly complex interior design industr y. An industr y driven by trends and innovations, and faced with evolving design challenges and pressing environmental concerns. Now living in West Seattle, Alex is excited to be a member of the ver y talented design communit y here in the Pacific Nor thwest creating exceptional design solutions and distinctive spaces. Alex takes interest in obser ving the movements and behavior of people within the built environment. He strives to create designs that are sensible and ef ficient, yet beautiful at the same time. He believes that good design should focus on the experience and the emotional and physical well-being of the user.
“I don’t believe in this “gifted few” concept, just in people doing things they are really interested in doing.
”
They have a way of getting good at whatever it is.

CONCEPT
Harmony and Balance The concept of the office space is inspired by the design principles of harmony and balance. Harmony and balance compliment one another and the design aims to express this relationship through layout, material selections and design elements. Retro appeal blends with modern functionalit y to create a unique interior space. The design of the space creates an environment that encourages work /life balance and creativit y among employees by focusing on flexibilit y, technology and sustainabilit y. The design draws upon the shapes and cur vilinear lines of a Japanese rock garden. The idea is for the office space to be comfor table and relaxing while promoting productivit y and enjoyment for the employees.

CONCEPT
Kolea The Kolea is a migrator y bird of Kauai. The design concept for the guest house is based on the migrating bird taking flight to the warm and sun-filled refuge of the tropics. The layout of the house is split into t wo living spaces that share the same roof separated by a breezeway. The architectural design of the guest house is inspired by a beach cabana and the outstretched wings of a bird gliding through the air. The structure is oriented south-facing in order to take full advantage of the direct sunlight and panoramic ocean views. The color palette and materials are inspired by the lush local landscape, the beaches, and the deep blue hue of the Pacific Ocean.
