Resume
A youth poetry festival designed by the Young Chicago Authors in 2001 to be a platform that gives youth a chance to share their stories, learn from each other, and find common ground. Since it’s founding, it has become the largest youth poetry festival in the world. 2015 was the first year that Louder Than A Bomb was held in Cincinnati. UC MetroLAB teamed up with LTAB to create a temporary performance space for the March 2015 Semifinals and the April 2015 Finals of the competition - held in the Harriet Tubman Theater of the Cincinnati Freedom Center. We worked with local high school teams and coordinators to design and construct portable performance enviorments (platforms, walls, seats, lighting, etc.) for LTAB competitors and spectators to use during the events. The challenge was to empower the artist and enhance the performace without distracting either audience or performer.

Located outside the auditorium, the seating installation serves as a welcome point to visitors arriving for the competition. Edge-lit laser etched plexiglass and recycled sanded aluminum plates showcase lines of poetry from the work of many of the competitors, emphasizing the nature of coming together emphasized by Louder Than A Bomb. The plates are clipped to the bench framework with a series of custom bent steel clips. Repurposed pallet wood creates the seating surface. Designed and fabricated by a team of six students.
Located on stage behind the performers, the DJ booth provides a shielded tabletop surface for electronic equipment to be used while also serving as an opportunity for branding the event. Three layers of edge-lit laser etched plexiglass display the lyrics to the song after which the Louder Than A Bomb competition is named. Each layer runs on a dimmer switch which can be independently controlled to highlight different pieces of information at various points throughout the show. Each piece custom designed and fabricated by a team of three students.
A proposed open-air space for grieving located on the grounds of Union Cemetery in Columbus, Ohio. Inspired by the burial mounds of ancient civilizations, the ribbed undulating structure is a gesture to hybridize the forms of nature and the man-made. Contrasting the crisp white exterior is a layer of soft, undulating grassy ground on the interior, which blurs the lines between the two extreme conditions. Burial tombs are nestled within the ground and arrayed along a central corridor which shifts in response to the undulation of the roof structure above. Space is provided along the path to perform funerary services as well as rooms for private grieving and storage of materials. Renderings made with Rhino, V-Ray, and Photoshop.

Final project following an eight-week study abroad tour through the countries of Italy, France, Switzerland, Germany, Greece, Turkey, and Scotland examining urban environments across multiple cultures and backgrounds. Displayed at a university sponsored gallery opening, “014 Storefront Studio in the fall of 2014. Proposal for an open-air mobile vendor park intended to bring life back to an abandoned site located below an existing pedestrian bridge in Paris, France (a site visited during the trip). Multi-function hexagonal units at each station can be arranged differently for vendors based upon unique sales needs. Stackable units are designed to promote easy setup, use, and storage. Renderings completed with Rhino, V-Ray, and Photoshop.

Vendors can choose from three preset configurations based upon their needs. Inset diagrams on each planter dictate how to set up shop for any type of establishment.
Each unit is designed with a beveled edge to make stacking and storage easier. Units lock into the concrete floor tiles, which also mimic this system.
Taller units have the ability to transform into sets of tables and chairs. This is useful for vendors selling food who wish to have an area for patrons to sit and eat.
A cultural arts center located in the Uptown neighborhood of Cincinnati, Ohio near the university campus. Building includes space for studios, workshops, and a gallery, as well as dormatory-style housing for students and visiting fellows working within the building. Tiered landscaping addresses the steeply sloped urban site allowing visitors to cross easily to surrounding greenspace and businesses while also being provided with a chance to pass through public gallery spaces to experience the work created by the building’s occupants. Renderings completed with Rhino, V-Ray, and Photoshop.

A comprehensive remodel of Bake Me Home’s headquarters to create a welcoming and colorful work environment for volunteers which adequately reflects the branding and mission of the organization. Project completed in two phases. Phase One transformed the lobby, conference room, inventory room, and two offices. Phase Two of the renovation included the installation of an F-1 use commerical kitchen in the center of the building where volunteers of all ages now come together to fill jars of cookie mix and bake cookies for Bake Me Home’s ministries serving homeless children and families. As renovation manager, time was spent planning each room as well as selecting, purchasing, and installing floor/wall finishes and furniture. Created the design and drafted plans for the kitchen space under the supervision of a licensed architect who donated her time and expertise towards the project.

Conceptual rendering for the proposed F1 commercial kitchen space shown. Tearing down walls which once defined two smaller offices and an awkward kitchenette opened up the center of the building to create a hub for volunteers to work and collaborate in large groups. The U-shaped assembly station allows volunteers to work together in an assembly line to fill jars of cookie mix or prepare cookie dough for baking. The sanitizing station is located across the room to provide adequate room for proper cleaning of all equipment and utensils. Design executed and built during the fall of 2013.
