The actual Benjo Mechanical Rammer became the Benjo Portable Power Rammer and since the Warsop Benjo Rammer, it made a new world-wide market for compaction equipment. At Fairport we have now call it the “Tamping Rammer”, maintaining the original name and adding an additional adjective but we all don’t mind just what you call it ! Others call it the Trench Rammer but its use isn’t restricted to ramming trenches, it’s good for compacting patch repairs to roads, footings and building foundations as nicely. However the government bodies and officialdom that set the standards for compaction have taken to calling it the “Vibrotamper” or “Vibro-tamper”. So next time you’re given any specification that calls for “compaction with the vibro-tamper”, you know they actually mean a Tamping Rammer”. Whatever you call them, Tamping Rammers are usually hand guided, engine driven machines for compaction regarding soil, sand, bass speaker-base, hardcore as well as asphalt. (All these types of materials have various names as well). The engine sits on top of a line which drives the foot up and also down at high speed and with numerous force. The pillar and foot will certainly fit nicely down in to the bottom of a trench so which’s why some call it a “Trench Rammer”. Trench Rammer? Every time a material needs compacting at ground floor the Rammer finds its place. Upon small jobs and trenches that’s often the just equipment that can perhaps do the career.
