PEDESTRIANS’ TRAFFIC Traffic flow moves along both sides of the lake while there is a lack of a shortcut to enter the park.
PROBLEMS OF THE SITE The site is considered as an entrance to the Golden Gate Park but it doesn’t have any memorable sign. The current ‘gates’ are a blurred reminder of it, but they are shaded under the current bike rental business.
CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT
Due to the location, the community center should function as a transition or gates of Golden Gate Park. Instead of blocking the pathways it should create a convenient and organic path flow with multiple ways in and out, and a shortcut to the park from Haight street for the people who do not want to participate in community center’s activities.
The slope on the side gives the opportunity to divide the inner space into public and private spaces. Underground = Private On The Surface = Public

first iterations First iterations are mostly a study for inner and other circulations. There are three main ways to get in and through the building. All of them are wide enough to walk and to ride a bike. The central route leads to the central lobby as well as the entrance to the park so it will be used for people who want to get to the building as well for those who want to pass it. Two other routes are going through the building; they are little longer than the central one but easily accessible for people who come from

MULTIUSE SPACE
The community center is an effort to establish a relationship between all surroundings. It’s a connection of two areas: urban and natural. Designwise the building represents this connection through its outer shape. Flowy and organic forms are facing the park, while more rigid shapes are connected to the urban area of the site.
