Volumetric Vessels We chose a painting from Le Corbusieur to analysis and create concepts that woulld later be used in the Bath House. We analyzed the contours of the painting apart from color to be able to come up with a clear concept. Afterwards we used the contours to create vessels that we would use in the Bath House. We selected vessels that we thought would work better together and combined them to create a unique space.

Painting Analysis

Here you can see the different contours I was able to extract from the painting not using color which is why they are in greyscale. I started to see if i could possibly only focus on the bottles but was still exploring different ideas. However towards the right we can see that I started extracting contours by color to be able to create a concept for the Bath House.

Further Analysis

When extracting colored contours I wanted to take advantage of this and see how color is related to the painting. When discovering these different ideas on how I should use these contours for the project we created a color palette to better understand the colors in the painting and what they meant. Ultimately I decided that the painting wasn’t helpful for me in terms of creatng a concept which is why I shifted the painting later on.

This is my exploartion on how I would started to connect the vessels by a simple extrusion. On the left I wanted to create a clear concept of scale to later use in my Bath House where the bigger contours would be a low level of privacy and the smaller contours would be a high level of privacy. This diagram was to demonstrate an early vision of what the main concept for the Bath House would be. Not only was this for my main concept but I used the concept of scale to create my combination vessels that would later have the element of different levels of privacy in the project.

After analyzing the painting and creating concepts for the bath house we researched a bath house to get a better idea of what a bath house is and its programs. Afterwards we placed water inside the vessels to get an idea where the pool would be and how light would enter the space. Then, we created the programs for the spaces and a narrative to better demonstrate who would go to this bath house and how the program would look like. Then we captured how the inside of the space would look like and we created plans and sections to better demonstrate the ciculation of the bath house.

THERMAL BATHS

Pools fed by thermal springs at various temperatures.

SEA

A very long private beach, lapped by crystal clear waters.

NATURE

You will be surrounded by a park with over six hectares (approx. 645835 square foot) of terraces.

HEALTH

Specific treatments, anti-stress and anti-aging treatments, and medical advice on the use of the spa.

WELFARE

Holistic and relaxing treatments are integrated with spas, sun, sea and the beauty of nature.

I researched the bath house Giardini Poseidon in Ischia, Italy that was designed by the architect Zollinger. I was interested in how this bath house / spa came to be with its historical presence in that this location used to be farmland but the landowner wanted to use the myths and legends of the land to build a bath house. I found it particularly interesting how the architect used scale in deciding the programs for the pools. For example, he designed the Hot and Cold pool right next to each other and distinguished them by scale. The bigger pool would be the Hot Bath while the smaller pool would be the Cold Bath. So, I incorporated this idea into my bath house.

BEAUTY

Personalized treatments for face and body to make you always feel young, healthy and relaxed.

In these perspectives you are able to see the panels that were incorporated to the different spaces. For the pool I chose to use a panel that would play with light in a very interesting way which is the top right panel design. The steam room since it’s green I wanted to use this opportunity to have a way for the steam to leave the space while also looking like they were vines coming down from the ceiling. The panel was the bottom right panel design. Lastly, the panel in the middle right I placed it in a transitional space where a spiral staircase is that leads the audience into a more private and intimate space. I felt that even though it’s simple it’ll create minimal shadows in the space.

The hiker or backpacker would start by choosing whether they want to experience the top of the bath house where the vessels are sticking out a bit to intrigue the audience while also representing the different level of privacy in the space. The more you see the vessel on top of the site the lower the level of privacy it is and the less you see of the vessel the higher the level of privacy it is. When, the hiker or backpacker is done exploring they would go into the bath house to start their experience. First is the locker rooms where a spiral staircase is seen that leads the person to the steam room that has panels hanging from the ceiling. Next is the Hot bath where the person can relaxing and look at the sky while enjoying a swim. Afterwards is the cold bath where you can the lighting starts to get darker to demonstrate the level of privacy in that space. Next, is the spiral staircase that leads people into the medicinal bath which is the highest level of privacy in the bath house. From there people would go to a staircase of small pools to reach the final two pools. The last interior perspective is the final pool where people would go to and experience a view of the outside through the panels.
