The initial lighting analysis resulted in mainly overlit spaces which can be justified by the use of directly exposed openings to the solar incidence. The performance was limited due to needs of cooling that would constrain the building to extreme energy consumption.

The process of determining the best location for the core of the building ended with placing it on the E side, directly next to the adjacent building, limiting solar losses and pushing the general arrangement more to the W side of the building.

The last iteration of lighting analysis focused on a new approach to design, incorporating a brick screen system that would level the natural lighting issues.

The proposal engages with the use of passive strategies to limit the consumption of energy. Among these the most important ones are the open void in the office space that aids the air circulation upwards to the floor, the use of photovoltaic panels and fabric in the open space that offer an aesthetic effect that celebrates the vernacular architecture and diffuses natural lighting gains.

Storage Section

The interior arrangement focuses on the principle of open plan accommodation, assuring ease in flow of circulation and at the same time flexibility in the configuration of the space based on the users that are to inhabit the space.

By using a structural system consisting of brickwork masonry and timber joists, structural integrity is assured by a grid of crossing timber beams that connect to the main loadbearing masonry columns.
