How to Monetize your Website Traffic You’ve started a blog and paid careful attention to your Search Engine Optimization (SEO). You’ve sent out press releases and let members of your forum know you’re up and running. You’ve even taken what many consider to be the essential “first step” and created a free video or report, so that people can sign up to your list through your brand-new opt-in box. However, simply getting people to sign up to your list is akin to just putting your foot in the door. You need to be aware of the myriad of ways to monetize your website traffic, in order to get the best return on all your hard work. (After all, why settle for just one stream of income when you could have several - all from the same site content?) But before you rush to adopt new strategies, do yourself a favor and consider your overall business plan. Which strategy would be your perfect fit - and your target customer's? Would you just like a passive, “set-it-and-forget-it” type additional stream of income… or is there a more active one that can ignite your passion and keep you happily involved for years to come? In this report we'll examine seven successful strategies – from the traditional tried-and-true to today’s current hot trends... But there two more essential steps to take before rushing off to monetize your site... 1. 2.
Develop high-value, original content Build a community of loyal followers
You don't have to wait years for your website to attain high page rank and thousands of followers before starting to monetize it. Everything begins with quality content at the site's Download Your $97 Gift >>>> Here

Selling Services or Products The most obvious way to monetize website traffic involves selling your services or products (either physical products or digital ones). Both start with developing your USP (unique selling position), but there are two differences you need to observe. If you're promoting your services, traditionally you target by your geographic area. If you're direct-selling products, target by a broader geographic area, as well as your product's category and keywords. With both products, decide how far your reach ought to extend: Local? Continental? Global? What's New - Geo-Targeting: You may not think geo-targeting can help you sell more product. You also may not think it really matters if you focus on local businesses, when your clients so far range across all of North America... but a tactic as simple as: 1. including your city in your keywords, meta tags and domain name 2. submitting your cite to local directories (up to state or province wide) ...can actually bring in extra clientele! One other reason to include geo-targeting in your monetization SEO: Thanks to Facebook Places and the "social search" phenomenon, geo-targeting is currently a red hot trend proven to increase and maximize traffic.

CPC Networks and Pay Per Click Advertisers CPC/CPM: Not so very long ago, Cost Per Click networks were heavily pushed as a passive stream of income, but now they've largely fallen out of favor. Make no mistake, however: Savvy marketers still make additional income monetizing their sites by linking to CPPC networks. (It's a form of affiliate marketing - you get a small commission, usually pennies, if someone clicks on the CPPC network's link.) Realistically speaking, with properly optimized sites and targeted content, the average marketer only makes between $16 and $60 monthly per site, once well established... but if you have several blogs, those small amounts do add up. There are quite a variety of PPC networks you can sign up with. Some will pay you for CPA (cost per action - as in a purchase or opt-in) and some for CPM (cost per mille) - "Mille" in this case meaning "thousand"; as in "cost per thousand impressions"). There are two drawbacks to allowing CPC networks access to your site: 1. There's always the risk of heavy-duty malware being implanted, which can hurt your page rank and SEO 2. They're really "small potatoes" considering the amount of work you may be doing, if you're setting up blogs strictly to showcase those links or banner ads.

The Blogging Institute However, if your site is already established and optimized, it's not a bad idea to examine seven of the more reliable ones to see if they're a good fit: Tribal Fusion Contextweb (formerly Adsdaq) Burstmedia Morning Falls Value Click Note that most CPC/CPM networks have a minimum monthly traffic requirement, but there's quite a range (at 3,000, Value Click has the lowest). You'll hear that many companies are "picky" when it comes to accepting independent publishers, but don't let that daunt you, if you have the number of monthly page views or unique visitors required: The main selection criteria is that both you and your website behave in a business-like, professional manner. (In other words, don't admit you're a newbie, if in fact you are: It's unnecessary. Focus on showing them you know what they want.) Google AdSense and PPC Advertisers: For those whose traffic is more in the "hundreds" range than "thousands", Google AdSense used to be the time-honored way of monetizing sites. With banner ads being "so yesterday's news" now, AdSense returns are considered minimal. However, one thing about AdSense: It's easier to get accepted as an AdSense publisher showcasing their ads on your site especially if your page view numbers haven't reached anywhere near the thousands, yet. All you need is a blog theme that's "AdSense Ready"; drop in your Google AdSense publisher number and you're in business. Download Your $97 Gift >>>> Here
The Blogging Institute It's especially well-suited to people who run multiple niche blogs. (Just make sure the AdSense ads don't detract attention from products you're promoting as an affiliate). Text link Ads are another option. You've seen them... Blog posts with double-hyperlinked words within the body text:
When people click on the hyperlinked word, you're paid a small amount. (Translation: The claim at the original TextLink site that you can make "thousands of dollars a month" should be taken with a shovel-full of salt.) You really do have to consider your audience when deciding whether or not to institute them - "Will the ads annoy them?" being your biggest consideration. Here are a few current of the better-known or more reliable Text Link companies: Adbeans (formerly "DirectLink Ads) TextLink Ads Kontera PaidTextLinks LinkWorth

Affiliate Marketing Affiliate marketing is still going strong and it's possible to make a good income with it. It's basically recommending a product, and if a sale or lead results, you get a commission. Changes in recent trends include narrower niche focus and "specialization" (not to be confused with identifying your specific target market). Whereas one used to pick a domain name that covered a wide sub-topic range (E.G. "baking.com" in order to fit a good variety of baking-related keywords in posts, it's now considered more effective to specialize right at domain name level (e.g. "shortbreadrecipes.com"). Because of the prevalence of AdSense and advertising, it's also wise to avoid oversaturated niches dealing with subjects such as:
Dating Acai berry Weddings Insurance
That's not to say you can't promote products associated with these broad niches: Just that you have to be a lot more specific in order not to drown like a grain of salt in the ocean. The best affiliate marketers take their traffic seriously. They track and observe, and do their best to provide that traffic with great recommendations. They also don't hesitate to point out flaws and drawbacks in products, building trust by always putting the visitor's needs first. Download Your $97 Gift >>>> Here

It would be wonderful to think that the best affiliate marketers also try every product they recommend, but the real truth is, many choose products based on the highest conversion rates balanced by that marketer's experience and instincts. (They're seldom wrong, and never lie about using the product.) Keywords: Finding and using the best keywords is a crucial part of affiliate marketing strategy, but all the great long-tailed keywords in the world won't help if: o You don't put consistent, steady time and effort into promotion and supporting strategies o You, yourself, don't have a list - which you can then turn into your affiliates to help promote your best products. (Information products particularly lend themselves well to this strategy.) Most super affiliates who really do make six figures and upwards also recommend that you focus completely on building your affiliate marketing business and don't allow yourself to be distracted. You can perform as an affiliate marketer in one of two easy ways (ideally, actually, you should consider doing both): 1. Find individual products that your list will thank you for finding and promote it directly from the product seller's affiliate system 2. Join a reputable affiliate network and promote multiple products

The Blogging Institute You're probably already familiar with Clickbank, but here are four more top affiliate networks with solid commission rates, to get you started: Amazon (categories cover almost every niche and sub-niche!) Commission Junction Linkshare Pepperjam
Just remember - especially with networks such as Clickbank to cloak your affiliate links, to prevent unscrupulous visitors from stealing your commissions by changing that link to their own. If affiliate marketing flows easily for you, this is a path you might seriously want to consider. If you'd rather just have a secondary, passive stream of income - a couple of hundred extra dollars a month, perhaps - then it makes a great addition to primary sources of income such as selling your own information products or services.

Article Marketing This is one particular traffic monetization strategy no online entrepreneur should ignore. Write niche related articles driving people searching for your keyword first of all to the directory where your article can be found: And then through your Resource Box at the end of the article to your site, where they can be sold a paid product. Article marketing can help you: o Quickly increase page rank o Quickly increase authority expert status o Get known in your niche for solid content and answers o Promote products, your brand, your services or yourself o Drive targeted traffic to your site - traffic that buys your products or through your affiliate links! The strategy itself is simple. Below is a "put-into-practice" variation you can try.

1. Sign up for the directories in the list which follows this step-by-step section 2. Study their guidelines and either print them out (so you can refer to them while proofing your article) or make quick, point form notes on any specific formatting 3. Research a great, long-tailed keyword relevant to your specific subject 4. Write five unique, original 500 word articles, using that keyword (a) In your article title (b) Within your first sentence 5. Conclude each article with a simple, clear "Resource Box" that runs along the lines of: "You can find out more on how to [solve the reader's specific problem: E.G. "remove stubborn skin tags and warts"] by visiting [website URL]. 6. Submit one article to each of these directories.
Of course, it's a good idea to submit small batches rather than single articles stories (check each particular directory's guidelines for number restrictions), using related keywords in some of the article batch mixed with repeating your strongest keyword once or twice for a couple of your other articles. Putting the above strategy into practice and repeating it at regular intervals is a great, easy way to get a feel for article marketing - while driving a constant flow of traffic to your site (and offers!)

The Blogging Institute Article directories exist to provide unaltered original articles (containing your Resource Box and links) to websites. They are syndicated via RSS feed - which means your "reach" is immense, once an article is published.
Here are five, high-ranking article directories to start submitting articles to: Ezinearticles Articlesbase iSnare Article Alley Buzzle Plus there are new directories appearing, some of them easier to gain acceptance to than the traditional ones: Articoolz
Ezine Promotion One of the most overlooked ways to monetize your websites is through ezine promotion. Make sure there is a sign-up form prominently displayed on your site inviting people to help themselves to a free .PDF report, audio or video containing your most unique, valuable gem of information. Let them know while they're opting in that they will receive a regular edition of your ezine. Then make sure they receive it, delivered via their Feed or email. Your ezine doesn't have to be a dazzling display of HTML and graphics (unless your niche involves visual design, that is): Download Your $97 Gift >>>> Here
The Blogging Institute Some of the most effective ezines out there are simple text emails sent regularly. What makes it an ezine and not just another email? It's format. An ezine should always contain the same components with new information specific to your readers. You can include calls to action inviting them to purchase your new offers, monetizing your ezine traffic base that way. Another great way to use ezines to your advantage - especially when you're first starting out: Advertise in other, popular and already well-established "authority" ezines. There are sure to be several specific to your niche, whatever that topic consists of: And ezine advertising is usually ridiculously inexpensive - a perfect way for newcomers to introduce themselves to a larger traffic base. Sponsored Blog Posts If writing is really your thing and affiliate marketing and selfpromotion aren't, you may wish to consider writing sponsored blog posts. If your site has a high traffic count and Alexa ranking, you'll most likely be approached by product developers who want to pay you to write about their product - but, let's face it, that's not likely to happen when you're just starting out. One way to get known while being paid is to hunt out companies yourself and apply to write sponsored posts on your own blog, making use of your existing traffic while increasing it (thanks to the ad power behind the companies wanting to make use of you).

The Blogging Institute A great resource for finding niche-specific assignments is the Problogger.net job board. You'll find announcements such as these:
(You're looking for announcements that specify writing from your blog, rather than theirs.) One caution: You're not likely to hit that six-figure income this way, but if you enjoy blogging, you're quite happy with a steady flow of work and find a few reputable companies, you can supplement your monthly income (and even make one as a stand-alone income, if you blog full-time) quite nicely. Just remember you're using your traffic to make that company money... without receiving any sort of affiliate commission. Make sure you pick companies that have good Google ratings themselves. Weigh the pros and cons - perhaps even use these assignments for a short while until your traffic builds. You can also write reviews and get paid directly for them, signing up with companies such as ReviewMe and PayPerPost, increasing your traffic while making money. Make writing reviews and posts on your own domain part of your master plan; a step on the ladder to success.

Site Flipping and Domain Parking Are you great at starting blogs, but not maintaining them? Do you lose interest easily? Have so many domains floating around out there (most of them undeveloped and dormant) that you can't remember them all without a spreadsheet? If so, you might want to consider these two strategies: Site flipping and domain parking. Site flipping involves more work than domain parking; you also need the knack of finding good keywords. The first requirement: Your web hosting. Set up the site to be flipped on a Reseller account, so that it can be separated from your account completely and transferred to the buyer's own web host. (You can also become the web host and receive monthly income for continuing to host it on your Reseller account, if you prefer.) Develop a blog around a strong keyword, packing it with a minimum of ten articles initially, and adding another ten at regular intervals of no more than one week. (The advantage of WordPress is that you can upload these all at once, but just set them to self-publish on any day you wish.) Download Your $97 Gift >>>> Here

Pack them with quality affiliate links. Then sit back and keep an eye on their performance. A blog with high performance can easily fetch you a couple of thousand dollars - but these are usually ones with some longevity (at least a year or two). Many successful site flippers will sell them for a lower rate after just a couple of months. (The key is to invest as little as possible financially and sell for maximum profit.) You can also buy blogs yourself that have been inexpertly or poorly set up. Invest in a little improvement and a more professional polish, and you can turn that potential goldmine site into a nice little profit. You can advertise your site at Flippa.com. There's more to site flipping, and many guides out there, but if you think this is something that make work for you as an extra way to make a profit of the traffic these sites bring, take some time to first check out the Site Point How to Buy and Sell a Website forum. Domain Parking is much easier; a true source of passive income. It consists of making use of your registrar's free parking, by making sure the content on that undeveloped page contains affiliate links or advertiser material (the proceeds paid to you!) After all, that's what your web host and/or registrar will do, if you don't develop your site. (Ever seen those sites that look like this?)

This is an example of a domain that has never been developed by its owner: Instead, registrar GoDaddy.com has used the space to get revenue from the advertiser links on the left. (Note also on the right, the domain itself is being offered for sale.) The easiest to make money off parked domains is by signing up with Sedo and using its marketplace and tools for your parked domain. There's no reason why your registrar should make money off your dormant domain and the traffic it receives from your strong, keyword-based domain name: Maximize it and make that money for yourself!

A Word about Advertising... There's no getting around it: Paid, targeted advertising can bring in purchasing, targeted traffic, and boost your site and sales, more quickly than any other strategy. The great thing about advertising, however: You can offer it as well as pay for it. You can have other people pay you to display their ads on your site. This can be done through legitimate agencies such as Ad Engage. You sign up, become a publisher and choose which banner ads to display on your site. The traditional way to boost traffic to your website - traffic you can monetize by presenting it with your product offers, services and affiliate links - is by running a short AdSense PPC campaign. With the advent of social search and the explosion in mobile phone access to social networks such as Twitter and Facebook, however, there is strong evidence that Facebook ads are a better alternative. Download Your $97 Gift >>>> Here
The Blogging Institute You can set a daily budget. They're easy to create - you're walked through the process step by step. You can include a graphic... ...and you can reach a broad base of Facebook's 500-millionplus fans, many of whom only connect with the net via mobile: They've abandoned (or can't afford) PC's. Think about it. You may be missing the most lucrative segment of your niche by not planning for Facebook Advertising when you start a new campaign. It really is a case of saving a few pennies and losing potential thousands. You can also directly monetize your traffic by placing video ads, eBay ads, auction ads - in short, you can choose from a variety of advertising that best suits your site and your audience. Whether you believe in popular cultural phenomenon like "The Secret" or not, there's one basic truth in business, as in life: Wherever you focus your energy, you'll breathe life. And if you give, you'll receive. It's all about connection. Engage with your readers. Provide high quality, thoughtful content. Listen to feedback. Look for ideas (especially in visitor complaints). Use that connection you're investing to benefit your readers and visitors... and they'll benefit you. Your traffic will bring you many ways to monetize your websites - and why not, after all your hard work?
