Introduction

Problem – No traffic or a lack of interested, engaged targeted traffic (resulting in poor conversions). When I first started out affiliate marketing I struggled to find consistent traffic sources that could deliver targeted traffic to my websites after a lot of experimenting and exploring I began to find effective methods which I still use to this day on my own network of niche sites. With that in mind I’ve created this report as a way to give back to the community. My only request from you is that you actually treat this report as a book and read through each of the methods (even if you’ve already heard of them) as a few include hidden extras which can boost your traffic enormously. You will learn how to use and find niche specific forums, Q&A sites, Authority 2.0 sites, Social media (Digg & Facebook) as well as guest blogging and reciprocal linking right let’s get started!

The following are the 5 proven methods to get targeted traffic to your site:

Niche Specific Forums Forums are where enthusiasts from thousands of hobbies, sports and events gather to discuss the latest news, gossip and pictures therefore they offer huge potential for highly targeted traffic. Forums need to be approached with great caution you simply can’t wander in and start selling forum member resent this and will pretty quickly see you as a spammer, frown upon you and shoot you down. Step 1. Find A Forum In order to maximise potential visitors you need a laser targeted forum appropriate to your website/blog. The simplest way is to simply Google “your websites theme + forum” into Google.com so if you had a site on cat food you’d search “cat food + forum” into Google (without the quotation marks). Other search queries you can use include: “your websites theme + forums” “your websites theme + discussion” “your websites theme + discussion boards” Outside from the search engines a few websites such as http://www.boardreader.com/ offer a forum search engine although I find these a little ineffective when compared to Google.

The Blogging Institute

You simply search for your keyword and board reader runs a search on discussion boards looking for your keyword

Step 2. Start Posting! As mentioned earlier forums can become hostile places pretty quickly so make sure you read through the forum rules before posting and follow these guidelines: 1. Never try and sell in a forum - you need to behave like a fan not a salesman! 2. Write at least 10 helpful posts before adding your signature link. 3. Write a post before you start a thread. 4. Don’t shoot people down or start/engage in flame wars you may get your feeling of importance but you’ll be seen as a jackass. 5. Don’t even think about adding an affiliate link anywhere! Step 3. Drive Traffic To Your Website In order to create traffic you need to get your link in front of the forums visitors and we do this by adding a line of text linked to your site within your forum signature (remember don’t use an affiliate link) this could be a review page (which could in itself feature an affiliate link) or just a link to your homepage. Try to avoid using your link in a standard thread/post unless it’s in a response to someone asking for what your blog/site answers. Step 4. Edit Your Signature In order to edit your signature you will need to log into your forum account and edit your profile/user cp for example in the Warrior Forum we would follow the link shown highlighted below:

You can see the highlighted “Edit signature” link clicking this will bring you to a page enabling you to edit your signature.

Step 5. – Return!

Regular posts are better than occasional bursts of posts, try posting 5 times a day for a few weeks and you’ll be surprised at the visits you get through your signature alone. Generally the more posts you make the more people will click through - clicks can be improved by posting really helpful replies/threads. What’s great about forums is that they are treated like WebPages by Google and often rank high for many search queries so you’ll often find people searching, finding and clicking through your signature link for months and years to come.

Question & Answer Sites Q&A sites help people put there question directly in front of a community and get fast feedback if used correctly can unleash a huge flood of targeted traffic what’s more since these are people actively looking for answers if your product can answer them you’ll have a lot of conversions on your hands! These sites often rank very highly in Google (with many struggling to outrank them!) so you really need to make sure you add them to your traffic arsenal. However like Niche forums there is some etiquette needed you can’t simply start firing your link around everywhere you need to provide helpful in-depth answers and then provide your link as an additional reading source or reference to help the asker improve his/her knowledge. Step 1. – Top Question & Answer Sites: Yahoo Answers Wiki Answers Askville (Amazon) I recommend you start with Yahoo Answers since has the largest community as well as ranking the strongest in Google. The following is based on Yahoo Answers

Step 2. How To Find Questions To Answer In order to find open questions click “Advanced search” (next to the search box) enter an appropriate keyword scroll down to “Question status” and select “Open questions” then click submit this ensures only open questions are shown in the search results.

Step 4. How To Increase Your Chances Of Gaining Best Answer Generally the more helpful and long your answer is the more favourable it will be seen, if you get rated as “Best answer” this massively improves the chances of your link being clicked (since most people see reading after best answer worthless). I’ve also found I can simply copy and paste info directly from my site as my answer and since it’s already in-depth and long it’s usually voted as best answer. The following day you should login to Yahoo answers and click “My Activity – My Q&A – My Questions” this will bring a list of the questions you’ve answered along with their status (once they’re in voting) you can click on them and vote for your answer as the best answer (if you believe it to be). I’ve often found no one else chooses the best answer so by default yours will be chosen.

Guest Blogging/Reciprocal Linking This is a win-win situation since the blog owner gets a unique blog post for free and you get to tap into targeted traffic which someone else has spent years building. Step 1 (Optional) Use Mozilla Firefox and download SEOmoz plugin Step 2 Search in Google “Your themes keyword + blog” i.e. Cat food + blog other search queries you can use include: “Your themes keyword + blogs” “Your themes keyword + Wordpress” “Your themes keyword + Blogger” “Your themes keyword + comment” It’s important to find a targeted blog, if you can’t find one make the niche wider i.e. if your site was about cat food you’d extend it to “cat + blog” and then “pet + blog”. Step 3 If you’re using SEOmoz with Firefox tap your search query into the search box (to the right of the address bar) and you’re see the following results:

Beneath each entry is the PR value of each link you should visit (at least) the first three pages of search results opening up the those with the highest PR value (this will benefit our SEO as well as the natural click throughs). If you’re not using SEOmoz open up the 5 busiest relevant blogs (those with regular posts and active comments). Step 4 Now we need to visit the blogs and find a “Contact” or “About me” page there should either be an email address or a contact form (if not simply write a comment on the most recent post) suggest you’ve been reading the blog and are impressed (perhaps mention a few points you learnt) and add that you’ve got a blog or website in the same niche and you’d love to: A. Write a guest post on their blog In which case suggest the post would be new fresh content written just for their blog (make sure it is!) give the blog owner an idea of the title and at suggest at the bottom there would be a small section explaining to the blog readers who you are and where they can find your website. Or B. Swap links Download Your $97 Gift >>>> Here

The Blogging Institute To maximise the benefit of this you should try and get a link in either the site owner’s sidebar or footer since this will show on multiple pages. Give them the text copy you’d like to have placed as well as a link to your homepage. Suggest if they don’t feel comfortable adding the sidebar link they could write a small review of your website/blog and in return you’d do the same (remember you have to give to receive!) Step 5. Enjoy the traffic! A guest blog post will bring a sudden rush of targeted traffic whilst a link will more likely improve the SEO value of the placed link. Blog commenting on steroids! Recently blogs have started to include a “top contributors” widget to their sidebar which automatically displays the usernames of those who’ve written the most comments if your username is your keyword and you’ve added a link to your name when writing comments you will find you’ll now have a link on multiple pages of a high PR blog. The plug-in is called “Top Commentators” and can be found here: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/top-commentatorswidget/

Authority 2.0 Sites The majority of web traffic is now through direct visits to the site itself (Source: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/google-instantfewer-changes-to-seo-than-the-average-algo-update) and most web traffic is to big authority 2.0 sites include Facebook, About and Squidoo. The beauty of web 2.0 is that it enables people to create their own content without having the hassle of owning the website itself. Most of these sites have categories which are frequently visited by the same enthusiasts who frequently return to read the latest posts. The idea is that you’ll provide enough value that you’ll become seen as an expert within your field. Step 1. I suggest you start with Hubpages.com & Squidoo.com both these sites let you create your own “Hubs” or “Lenses” (their names for webpages). Step 2. Create your page, your content can be taken directly from your site (although Squidoo doesn’t like duplicate content for everything else make sure you use the same author name) choose a relevant keyword with a density of 2% within the body (also include in the title). Make sure you include a strong call to action at the end directing readers to visit your website (and why!) and include your page within the most appropriate category.

The Blogging Institute

Step 3. What makes this targeted is that since visitors to your page will have read a webpage on the same topic and chosen to click through into a self interested category they’re guaranteed to be super targeted. It’s important to note these sites are communities within themselves so you should aim to not only create pages but comment on other pages (this will not only make you look better but increase the chances of your pages getting looked at). Step 4. Here we put the same content on article directories (also web 2.0 sites in themselves) I recommend using ezinearticles.com and articlebase.com the idea here is that your articles will be syndicated both in Ezines and other peoples websites getting your content and links in front of many more readers (as well as the extra bonus of improved link juice) you just need to ensure you use a strong call to action in your resource box with your anchor text being your chosen keyword.

Social Media The two best social media sites you can use to drive targeted traffic to your website are Digg and Facebook, despite both being quite radically different together they get huge traffic and work in a way that your material can go viral fast. Digg lets users follow each other (much like twitter) and post links which are put forward and dug by registered users and followers of your profile. Generally the more diggs a site gets the more visits your site will get (although you’re likely to get many more visits than diggs). How To Use Digg: Step 1. Sign up to Digg.com

Step 2. Start commenting on diggs – I’ve found this to be the easiest and quickest way to gather followers. Step 3. Follow others – by following other people (particularly popular diggers) you’ll not only gain more followers but also have improved chances of getting other people to digg your content. By following other people your news feed will change to show their new content (and vice-versa).

Download Your $97 Gift >>>> Here

The Blogging Institute Step 4. Once you’ve gathered a solid group of followers you should submit your link (Shown top left right of the Digg logo) you should try and post with an intriguing headline. You really need to contribute to the digg community if you are to get repeat traffic from the website as this way more people will see your link and promote it. Once you’ve submitted your link it’s simply a waiting game to see how much traffic you get! Try experimenting with different types of content to see what works best. I’ve also found Digg an excellent way to get pages indexed into Google (usually within 12 hours). Now we more onto Facebook there are numerous ways to get traffic to your site via Facebook however if you’re not careful most will be limited untargeted traffic. The best methods are creating a fan page of your website/blog (only worth doing if your website/blog is already getting at least 200 visits a day with a good portion being returning visitors) or by creating a fan page/group at your websites theme i.e. if your site is about cat food you could make a fan page on a certain breed of cats. How To Set Up A Fan Page Step 1. Visit Facebook.com (no need to sign in or register yet) and click “Create a Page for a celebrity, band or business.” (Shown highlighted below)

Download Your $97 Gift >>>> Here

The Blogging Institute

Step 2. Select “Cause or community” - name your community and click “Get started”

Step 4. Log into your Facebook account (or create one at this point).

Download Your $97 Gift >>>> Here

The Blogging Institute Step 5. Now you’ll need to add an image (try to make it very relevant) write some content on the wall, invite your friends (only select those who are interested in your fan clubs theme) and finally “Like” the group yourself) this will show the group on your news feed which will encourage your friends to like the page too which in turn will then show up their friends newsfeeds and so on (as you can see this is really is viral friendly!)

Now when you combine the above together along with other social media sites you really are boosting the chances of your site to go viral, just remember you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink i.e. if you post boring content don’t expect the world to fall in love with it! Share This You should also consider adding a “share this button” to your website you can grab the code from: sharethis.com this gives you a small widget to add anywhere you like on your page which enables people to quickly post your link to Facebook, Twitter, Digg (and many more social media sites) potentially increasing your traffic. Download Your $97 Gift >>>> Here

The Blogging Institute Share this offers multiple looks the most popular is:

Simply visit sharethis.com and click “Get the code” (shown in yellow below) add the html code (I find this better since it’s more customisable than downloading the Wordpress plug-in) either to the bottom of your posts/pages or in your sidebar.

Correct Use Of Keywords

I added this extra section since for the most of us Google will continue to bring the majority of our traffic yet many people get confused when trying to properly optimise internal SEO so hopefully this should clear a few things up. If using Wordpress note it doesn’t give you the option to change individual post/pages Meta tags so you should install the plug-in “SEO Ultimate”. You want your exact keyword (no abbreviations or plural changes it must be exact) to appear at a:  2% Density Include your keyword at a density of 2% within your body (body text should be at least 500 words).  Meta Tags In your Meta tags (title, description & keywords) if possible include twice in the title and description.  Picture In the file name of a picture and as that photos “Alt tag” (this will also get you lots of traffic through Google image search).  Once bolded, underlined and italic (only your keyword).

 Header Tags In H1, H2 and H3 tags.  First & Last Sentence In the first and last sentence of your

pages content. Optional In a linked anchor text to an authority page. If you follow the above (even if you update a couple of points) you’ll find your rankings will improve.

The Blogging Institute

Conclusion You should now be armed full with ideas on how to boost your targeted traffic; we’ve covered how to use Niche forums, Q&A sites, Guest blogging/reciprocal links, Authority 2.0 sites, Social media and how to properly use internal SEO. The main idea with these techniques is that they all bring targeted traffic with many complimenting each other you just need to be consistent. You can’t simply turn up at Digg submit a link and expect a flood of targeted traffic to avoid information overload you should focus on two at a time and work on them every working day for two weeks be consistent with them and track your results to see what works best for you then scale them up. Many thanks for taking the time out to read this ebook. Good-luck and enjoy the traffic.
