The Narrative Sagarmartha is a tense first person survival horror game set in Nepal, in the Everest region. You play as Sam part of a search and rescue team and best friend to the missing climber, Ben. You are separated from your team and must not only discover the fate of Ben but survive against the freezing temperature and hungry animals that reside on the mountain. Things start to take a turn for the worst as you soon realise you are not alone on the mountain and even the wolves are fearful of something....

Sagarmartha's Environment

The Environment of Sagarmartha is dreary, freezing and somewhere you wouldnt want to end up. The mountain is dark and full of maze like paths that could cause you to wander in circles, with the scale of the peeks you will find yourself traversing through unrelenting blizzards, dark skies and deep snow. You will never know what awaits you through the thick fog...

The map was created using satelitte imagery and digital elevation maps (DEM) in 3D software. Although Sagarmartha is a real location, this map is a part of the Denali Mountain Range in Alaska. Due to data restrictions I was uable to obtain Sagarmartha maps but it has been turned into an adaptation instead.

A big challenge in the game is making the most out of limited supplies, therefore I did not feel it was necessary to pack the environment full of assets. I made a handful of rocks and trees to add variety to the ones already generated through unity as well as basic equipment for a campsite. The location is barren and scarce and I wanted to create an agoraphobic feeling while playing the game. //9


Sam

Sam is a 27 year old adventurous type who shares many fond memories with his childhood and best friend Ben. Growing up Sam would often spend time with his father who was a forest ranger, this is where sam would learn the basicis of hiking and get his first taste of adventure. Sam would proceed to go on backpacking trips with Ben across continents after their university days. Settling into a career Sam had put his adventurous days aside but Everest had always been the dream.

Janavara

Many Nepali tribes told stories of the creature and believed that it was a demon that manifested a physical form in order to cause terror to the tribes, mutilate their livestock and even steal children who it’d eat. The demon became trapped in his physical form and unable to return to hell, so it made its way in the Everest region, or Sagarmartha, to live in seclusion feasting on the animals that inhabit the area. Many believe that missing climbers hoping to reach the top of Mount Everest are taken by the demon to strengthen and restore its supernatural strength.

Controls And Game Mechanics Sagarmartha uses keyboard an mouse controls but intends to add controller support in the future. They layout is simple for this demo however more actions and features will be added in future such as a journal and a backpack inventory system.

Campfires - Campfires are the players main source of warmth and can be found at abandoned campsites. The fire will have to be lit with a consumption of one flare. The player can return to this fire to get warm and relieve frostbite symptoms. This may draw unwanted attention towards the player if they linger for too long.

Flares - Flares help the player to know where they have been by throwing the on the ground or illuminate a small area in darkness however if you light many of these the monster can follow your trail. They can also be used to light a fire.

Environment - The weather conditions in Sagarmatha are designed to impare the player’s sense of sight and direction to create a more threatening environment. Sagarmartha has freezing cold tempratures (especially at night) blizzards, thick fog and low lighting. There are other threats as well such as wolves and bears.

Frostbite - The harsh climates will leave you freezing, when you are becomig frostbitten, find warmth! (Note: A flare is not a heat source!)

Footprints/Blood Trails - The monster will have multiple spawn locations and a predetermined patrol path until the player encounters him. If the player gets close, they may be able to see footprints or blood trails from a hunt indicating a general area he may be roaming.
