Letter From The Editor
Song of the summer: We Can’t Stop by Miley Cyrus Item I wore the most this summer: My high-waisted shorts The item you won’t see me without: Chapstick. I’m obsessed! I won’t go anywhere without some in my pocket! Read of the summer: I Know This Much Is True by Wally Lamb
Summer is the time where we get to relax. Live a little, work a little, relax a little, eat a lot, sleep a lot, and have fun all the time. Most of us don’t have to worry about school and homework and deadlines. We have so much free time, we can do whatever we wish with it. These are our last few summers to really do as we wish with them before we get stuck working year round in a 9 to 5 job. My goal for the summer has always been to get tan and, since I’m a figure skater and spend half of my day indoors, that hasn’t happened in years. Well, there was the time that I went to Florida three years ago, but I don’t really count it because my tan was halfway faded by the time summer ended. It’s also been a goal of mine to make a summer playlist CD before the summer actually ends. Somehow I’ve never been able to keep up with this one either. At the end of this summer I can say that I did make a playlist and I put it on my iPod, so I can check that one off of the list. Unfortunately, I did not get tan. At all. In fact, I think that this is the palest that I have ever been at the end of a summer. Oh well. This summer I took chance of every opportunity I could. I did an internship with a great local publication, I kept up (barely) with the sport that I fell in love with when I was little, and I got to eat ice cream all the time since I work at an ice cream shop. It was sweet bliss. And soon enough it will be over and we all will be back at school…
Sincerely,
Favorite ice cream flavor: Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough (or Half Baked from Ben & Jerry’s)

Summer Makeup Essentials Summer is all about having fun and being outside. You don’t want your makeup to be too heavy and weigh you down. Here are our items that will keep you looking pretty without feeling like you have something caked on your face. A. Bronzing Lotion Jergens Natural Glow Lotion ($9) Tanning beds and too much dangerous UV rays from the sun are harmful for your skin. Opt for a bronzing lotion to get that sun kissed look you crave without harming your skin.
B. Tinted Moisturizer Aveeno Positively Radiant Tinted Moisturizer ($11) Regular foundation can be heavy on your skin in the summer. The humidity and hot weather that comes with summer can make the foundation almost melt off your face. Instead use tinted moisturizer for a light coverage. C. Waterproof Mascara Maybelline The Falsies Volume Express ($6) Summertime is swimming time. And with going in and out of the pool and going to concerts with loads of people, we can’t afford for our mascara to be running down our faces. Waterproof mascara will get you through anything. D. Chapstick EOS Chapstick ($3) With all the fun activities you will be doing, you will need to keep yourself and your lips hydrated. The chlorine from the pool and the heat can dry out your lips. Rather than lathering them up with thick lip gloss, use chapstick to keep them hydrated. E. Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner L’Oreal Lineur Intense ($8) When going to concerts or having some fun with friends it can get hot and sweaty. Using waterproof eyeliner will ensure that it won’t smudge or rub off.

Bag to Basics
It’s time to keep things classy and simple, with basic onecolored bags that don’t have so many pockets you can’t find your lip gloss. 14
Bright colors can help keep your bags from going boring. The right bold color can add the extra wow to any outfit. 15
If you want a bag with a pattern, make sure that it is one color so that it doesn’t overwhelm your outfit or detract the eye from what you are wearing. 16
Buckles and other small details can add interest to your bag without making it look too busy. Beware of purses that have so many clasps that seem like they have no purpose. 17

The Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling
Despicable Me 2Free
The Casual Vacancy is J.K. Rowling’s first book for adults since her reign as esteemed author for the Harry Potter series. This book is about the small town of Pagford, which is shock after the death of Barry Fairbrother. Below the surface of this idyllic and beautiful town, the people are at war with one another. Barry’s death only makes this divide more evident. The Casual Vacancy follows the journey of its main characters and the repercussions after Barry’s death and all that he was fighting for.
And the mignons are back for this family fun comedy. Back are all the characters we know and love plus a couple more that will have you dying of laughter. This film is great for all ages, filled with fun, laughter, mignons, and… a guacamole hat? Yep, you heard me right. This time Gru is on the good side, fighting with his new, trusty sidekick (and love interest) Lucy as they try and find a culprit behind a mutantmaking machine. You aren’t you, go out and get it. going to get anywhere unless you fail first and Sure the quote goes ‘good things come to those who wait,’ but this doesn’t apply in the dream department. Dreams do come true, but only if you work for them. You can’t expect to get the job you want or land that superstar music gig if you don’t show that you are capable.
learn from your mistakes. Take it from President Abraham Lincoln. He lost eight elections, failed in business twice, and suffered a nervous breakdown and he ended up becoming one of America’s most beloved presidents.
To achieve any dream, you have to try first. Usually on the first try, most people don’t get that far. But THAT’s OKAY! No one expects you to get anything on the first try. The important thing is that you learn from that first try. What was good about it, what could have been better, what shouldn’t you do next time, etc. And from that reflection you decide and refine what you need to do next 2. Feed the passion. and then you try again and again and again If you really love something, go out and do it. until you get it. Whatever it is. Wouldn’t you rather do something you love than sit around doing something you find Even if you don’t take much from this article, boring? I know I would! When you have a there is one thing that I want to emphasize. passion, it becomes the only thing that you And that is to always… want to do; it excites you. Your passion becomes your fire that you want to keep aflame. If any opportunity shines its head, you should go out and take it. It doesn’t matter if you are qualified for whatever opportunity that is. Just the fact that you put yourself out there shows initiative and drive, which are two of the most important qualities (I think) that are important for fulfilling your dreams and your true potential.
By feeding your passion, you keep yourself motivated. More importantly, you keep yourself happy. When we do the things that we love, it doesn’t feel like we are working. It just feels like we are doing what we love until we can reach our ultimate dreams. Even if we don’t reach those ultimate dreams, the journey , in doing what we love, is enough. 22

Goodwill, Salvation Army, and thrift stores across the nation have become the new meccas for fashion. Here’s my take on why you should flock to these stores like ants on an apple core.
T
` hrift shopping was recently made popular with Macklemore’s hit song, but the trend is here to stay. I mean, who doesn’t love getting a cute shirt for three bucks or a nice jacket for 20? Pay 50 dollars for a t-shirt IS ridiculous, so why do we keep on doing it? Even I can’t answer that, but I can answer why we should keep on shopping at thrift shops. The first bonus is pretty obvious: you save a lot of money. I mean, if you look at it the amount of money that you would actually be saving shopping at shrift shops is almost ridiculous. I went shopping at a Salvation Army a couple weeks ago, and I bought three shirts and a pair of shoes for about $16. If I had gone to the mall and tried to buy things that were similar to my purchases I am pretty sure that I would have spent around $65 - $80 dollars, depending on where I shopped. I saved myself over at least $50 just by thrift shopping and the clothing I bought was good quality. Which brings me to point number 2: the quality of clothes at thrift shops is just as good as the stores in the malls. You can find things from New York & Company to Bebe to American Eagle to Express. Sure there are some cheap looking things at thrift stores, but you can easily pick around them and find items that suit your fancy lksdjf
and are of good quality. Just because it is cheap now, doesn’t mean it was cheap once. Now moving on to point 3: you can find literally almost anything at a thrift shop. It ceases to amaze me what I can find, when I go shopping at thrift shops. I have found oversized sweaters, tank tops, jackets, dresses, shoes, anything you can think of. You really never know what you are going to find. I think that that is part of the intrigue of going to a thrift shop. You know that there are treasures inside, but you have to find them. There aren’t going to be two of the same thing at a thrift shop, so whatever you find is yours and you can truly put your own personal touch on it. Thrift shops truly give you those one-of-akind pieces that can set your style apart from everyone else’s. Sure they can be overwhelming and you aren’t guaranteed to find something every time you go. It’s all about the search and the find with thrift shops. You search through the racks of clothes and end up finding unique pieces that you really love. And you won’t see those pieces in every other girl’s closet.
