Fitting the experience This project is about redesigning an overlooked object for a specific location. I chose to design a faucet for a tattoo shop and transform it in such a way that the faucet’s aesthetics fits the experience.

visiting experience

My experience in the tattoo shop I visited a modern tattoo shop in the lower west side of Chicago. The atmosphere was very clean, but a bit intimidating. The reason being, it was painful to see the customers get bit by the tattoo gun, it reminded me of a snake. Another thing I observed was that the whole tattoo shop is decorated, but the bathroom is not.

Describing my inspiration with images

The inspiration comes from visiting the tattoo shop. While observing around the shop, looking at the customers and the artists I got a sense of the tattoo gun mimicking the biting of a snake. My inspiration was influenced from a snake, also because it was very common to see this figure in many tattoos I came across with. Also the features of a snake; intimidating, rebellious and with wonderful skin compliment a person with tattoos.

Observation and welding experience My partner and I visited a welding factory during the research process. From the welders, their main problem is using the helmet for a long period of time. This causes the user to suffer from excessive heat.

how can we make it safer and affordable?

problems

SOLUTIONs

Ventilation Provide a fan to have air circulation and easier breathing

Larger Visor A larger viewing lense would help the user be aware of his surroundings

Our mission is to develop and execute a combination of ideas in order to produce an innovative, safe, visually appealing, humanized welding helmet. We hope to guide our design to protect against radiation, harmful gases, heat, skin irritation, burns, flying particles, and dirt. Ultimately our goal is to create a product that can be obtained by a multitude of different people and always demonstrates the highest level of protection.

Respirator The respirator would be included inside the helmet to protect against harmful gases

Velcro Velcro would be used to attach the respirator with the helmet in order to have an affordable welding helmet

Emotion +

KIND OF LIKE A TEDDY BEAR...

Fashion =

My goal is to combine the power of emotion and fashion, creating “emoshion.” I really want emotion to come into play with my product. It is more spiritual, the user does not have to think, the user just has to receive and feel. That is the power of emotion and design. And the reason why I want to incorporate fashion is to catch the youth’s attention with the aesthetics. Similar to a teddy bear, a child can be so attached to his or her bear. It is more than just a personal item. It is a bond between the product and the user. Something only emotion can achieve.
