Field of Study | Where will your project be situated, and what function will it fulfill? Describe your chosen subject area.

I want to create an Editorial Design, which would be available as a physical copy such as a magazine, and also an online version, which would be integrated into a web-site. It will inform the viewer of the way that new technology has had a dramatic impact on the world and has changed our lives for better, and for worse, in a visual and text based form. I focused on this subject in my dissertation and would like to create visual statements of these positive and negative effects that technology has had.

Design Focus/Question/Problem/Proposition | Identify your design focus/question/problem/proposition.

I will need to research how technology has changed our lives, and I will need to plan a way to illustrate these changes so that the message goes across to the viewer easily, I want each design to have several different meanings so that everyone can take something different away from it.

The main focus would be to challenge the viewers thoughts of what our future will look like in a creative way, and how technology will influence this, in both positive and negative ways.

Context | What is the wider social, cultural, historical, economic context for your project? This should consist of a preliminary survey and review of existing work and literature about the subject. Reflect critically on what on the existing situation and identify opportunities for further research. The author Marshal McLuhan wrote in his book (The Medium is the Message) ‘The medium, or process, of our time — electric technology — is reshaping and restructuring patterns of social interdependence and every aspect of our personal life. It is forcing us to reconsider and re-evaluate practically every thought, every action, and every institution formerly taken for granted. Everything is changing — you, your family, your neighbourhood, your education, your job, your government, your relation to "the others." And they're changing dramatically.’

Context | What is the wider social, cultural, historical, economic context for your project? This should consist of a preliminary survey and review of existing work and literature about the subject. Reflect critically on what on the existing situation and identify opportunities for further research. In the modern age there are so many choices available with regard to where you can live, job choices and hobbies. Because of this the entire experience of growing up has been entirely changed, for example a farmer's son would usually go on to work in his footsteps, and continue to be a farmer, in the modern age however everyone is exposed to many different career opportunities I want to find a way to demonstrate these particular kinds of changes, in a visual way along with related articles on this subject

Rationale | Why is this project important to you and to Graphic Design: New Media

The graphic design industry, in particular, has been transformed by these changes. With things such as new mobile devices (phones, netbooks, i-pads, ebook readers)constantly being introduced to the market, it is essential for graphic designers to keep an eye on the latest developments, to be able to come up with appropriate design ideas for the latest proffesional and leisure equipments and applications, and to be aware of the latest social changes.

Emerging Technologies

Methods | Describe how you are planning to carry out your project. I am going to have a look at the various social changes technology has provided looking at previous design work on this subject, I will be researching magazines, books and the internet to inspire myself in this field. I am going to be taking hundreds of photographs in and around the city of London all with technology and change in mind. I would also like to manipulate some of these photographs to give them new meanings and I would also like to create some Illustrations on this topic.

Emerging Technologies

Skills Evidence | Describe the practical and theoretical skills necessary to carry out the project.

I want to include several different things in this project, starting off with editorial design, photography, typography, web-coding and web-design. I would mainly use programs such as photoshop, illustrator and inDesign as well as dreamweaver for the online version of the project.

Emerging Technologies

Predicted Resolutions | Describe what you are working towards producing. I am working toward producing an Editorial and web-based series of designs, which demonstrate how electric technology has influenced our lives for better and worse in a creative way.
