What Is
Kiwanis?
Kiwanis International is an international, coeducational service club founded in 1915 in Detroit, Michigan. It is headquartered in the United States in Indianapolis, Indiana and is found in more than 80 nations and geographic areas. Joseph G. Prance and Allen S. Browne founded the organization. Membership in Kiwanis and its family of clubs is more than 600,000 members strong. Each year, Kiwanis clubs raise more than $100 million and report more than 18.5 million volunteer hours to strengthen communities and serve the children within them. Kiwanis clubs, located in 80 nations, help their communities in countless ways. Each community’s needs are different—so each Kiwanis club is different. By working together, members achieve what one person cannot accomplish alone. When you give a child the chance to learn, experience, dream, grow, succeed and thrive, great things happen. Service is at the heart of every Kiwanis club, no matter where in the world it’s located. Members stage nearly 150,000 service projects and raise nearly $100 million every year for communities, families and projects. Kiwanis clubs focus on changing the world by serving children, one child and one community at a time. To do this, many clubs also sponsor a Kiwanis family club—KKids for primary school children; Builders Clubs for adolescents; Key Clubs for teens in high school; CKI clubs for university students and Action Clubs for adults living with disabilities—to reach more people and have a greater service impact on their communities.

Introduction
By: Kimberly Ngo
Hi! My name is Kimberly Ngo and I’m your 20162017 Key Club Historian! I’m very excited to be a Key Club officer for this year! A few things about myself: I love puppies, the color green, and jewelry. I’m a sophomore and in volleyball, track, multicultural club, and Key Club. I have learned a lot from my freshman year, some which are that: after school naps are a must, it’s okay to focus on yourself, and that strong friendships are a necessity to keep you sane. I was really proud of myself for completing fifty hours of volunteering in Key Club this year and I enjoyed all the events I volunteered at. Some of my favorites were decorating for winter ball and homecoming, Angel Tree, The Lantern Run, and Canstruction. I hope to reach that goal again this upcoming year! Speaking of goals, some of them for me next year are to take awesome pictures from the events, put together a bomb scrapbook, and to get more active key club members. My goals outside of Key Club include getting my homework done sooner so I don’t lose as much sleep lol, to try to not lose my mind when I work in group projects, to be more calm and collected (because I can be very hyper… sometimes too hyper), and to be more healthy (yikes). Overall, I feel like I’m in a good state so I feel very optimistic about next year.
