What is the difference between SLR and DSLR camera?
Today we are going to share information about SLR and DSLR camera and we also tell which is better. In the days of yore, the photographer could view the subject he was photographing or take the photograph. He had no means of doing both simultaneously. It is only after the introduction of the digital era that he can simultaneously view the subject and photograph them.
Working of the SLR
The Single Lens Reflex Camera or the SLR features a mirror and prism system that allows the photographer to see through the lens while taking photographs. It has a front mounted lens that lets the light from the subject of the photograph. This light goes through the slanted mirror to invert the image so that we can see the upright image. As we depress the button to take the photograph, it pushes the slanted mirror out of the way and the whole picture goes black for an instant. The light is now allowed in full without any reflection direct onto the sensor. The experienced photographer will have noticed this black moment when they take pictures. The Digital Single Lens Reflex Camera (DSLR) works on the same principles of the SLR. The only difference is in the way the pictures remain processed and stored. The SLR camera contains photographic film which is a chemically coated media. You must develop them at a processing studio to get your picture. In the DSLR, you have a digital sensor. This picture remains recorded on a memory card. Use of shutter speed in SLR and DSLR camera Another thing that alters the quality of the picture is the shutter speed. This is the time for which the shutter of the camera remains open. The shutter speed can vary from 1 second to 1/1000 of a second for the most basic SLR camera models. For the DSLR, the speeds might be as fast as 1/4000 – 1/8000 of a second. With such speeds, it is possible to get high-resolution pictures even when the subject is moving at high speed. Next is the storage spaces of SLR and DSLR camera. This is where the DSLR cameras score big. The SLR cameras can store atmost 36 pictures on the spool of film. The DSLR can store thousands of pictures on the memory card. The technology of the DSLR cameras is much superior to the SLR cameras. For instance, you can preview a picture, then select only the ones that you want. You can store it or delete it which is not an option with the SLR cameras. You can transfer the pictures to the computer in an instant. DSLR is better than the SLR When we compare speed, storage capacity, and flexibility the DSLR scores over the SLR. For both, the photographer can change the lenses and pick one that is suitable for the situation. Both, have an optical viewfinder. The video capture is possible in certain models of the DSLR while in the SLR models this is never possible. In the same way, live preview is sometimes possible for the DSLR cameras but this is not possible for the SLR cameras. Choosing a camera these days means choosing a DSLR camera. The days of film photography have gone. We have people who view those days in a nostalgic sense but in a practical sense, it is the DSLR camera that is here to stay.
