Jack White New Album: Detroit rocker announced new album via Twitter
Jack White — Third Man Records founder and Detroit-based rocker previously of The White Stripe — has confirmed a new album. In July, Jack White posted two photos on Twitter (one photo taken in Los Angeles, the other in New York) with the caption, “Jack White recording songs for his third solo album”. The two photos are a dramatic announcement of a new album and, in true Jack White fashion, are black and white. They show Jack White surrounded by his bandmates; sporting guitars, straight faces, and sunglasses and they lean against white walls. The tweets came from the Third Man Records account, rather than from Jack White himself.
Though concrete evidence of a new forthcoming album, the two Twitter photos, posted in July, were not the first hints at new material from Jack White. In an interviewwith the New Yorker in March of 2017, Jack White revealed that he was writing new music, but not that he had an entire new album in the works. At the time of the interview, Jack White was working in Nashville. Of his new writing process, he said, “...I want to write like Michael Jackson would write — instead of writing parts on instruments or humming melodies, you think of them.” This new album will be Jack White’s first since 2014’s Lazaretto and his third since his debut solo release, Blunderbuss, in 2012. The name of Jack White’s new album has yet to be released. In April of 2017, Jack White released a new single, “Battle Cry”. This latest track is only two-and-a-half minutes long, and features White’s signature raging guitar riffs. Though the new song is short and full of guitar, it’s not a typical Jack White song. Aside from a few instances of chanting, the new song is entirely instrumental; opting to leave out Jack White’s now iconic voice. The new song was released without much warning. At the time of its release, it was unclear whether “Battle Cry” was a standalone song or part of a new album. Jack White has not yet released any material labeled a part of his new album.
