REQUIREMENTS • Entry closet for coats (2 ft deep and 4 ft wide minimum) • 3 bedrooms each with a closet (2 ft deep and 5 ft wide, minimum) • Master bathroom (with direct connection to Maria’s master bedroom) • Second bathroom (shared with Simona and Frank’s bedrooms) • Linen closet (near bedrooms or laundry room) • Laundry with storage shelves • Kitchen with pantry • Dining Room with seating for 6 • Living Room with seating for 6 • Home office for Maria and 2 other employees with laptops. Include space for drawers and printer.

MARIOTTO RESIDENCE This residence consists of the Mom, Maria, daughter, Simona, and grandfather Frank. This is an extended family. Maria, 45, operates a home business. She specializes in formal dances. Maria and her small staff offWer dancing lessons for couples.. Simona is a 16 year old teen and attends San Francisco University High School and participates in extracurricular such as dancing. Frank is a retired songwriter and lives his daughter Maria and granddaughter Simona. He is an elder at the age of 75.

CONCEPT STATEMENTry The space is home to several generations of unique people; the design is intended connect the family as their personal lives may divert them, creating a shared environment that caters to their personal dilemmas. They all have their own personal interest, but they still are a family. The space is designed to accommodate the personal interests of the family and the family’s unity. By manipulating space to encourage a sense of privacy and form to encourage personal interest. To individualize and motivate everyone’s creativity while still appraising self interest. The space is home Maria, Simona and Frank; and the Mariotta Residence. Even though this is a family, it is still very home to creative individuals. The mom’s home business is a key factor in the design; Combining her home business with the family, then how individually each one can use the space. The design focuses on organic materials to encourage movement throughout the house, physical and mental. The illusions of space through mirrors help bend space and light into the environment, changing scale and proportion. Finding a balance between their personal lives and the family as a whole.

Light is designed to inspire creativity and thought of what the space may and can be. The space is home to a small but big family. A mother and her partialy blind son reside in the home, alongside their support dog. The space is designed to accommodate the safety for the son but as well to inspire creativity. Lighting are the main component that will help him visualize the space. Line and organization will also help the son and family to navigate through the space. The space is designed to feel various different textures and oblige safety concerns

OSBORNE RESIDENCE This is a family of two living on the second floor, section 8, of the apartment. Catalina is the mother to Bryan. Bryan is partially blind and requires daily assistance. The nurse Teresa handles Bryan day to day, but does not reside with the family. . The family also has a support dog to help aide Bryan. The mom teaches at a local school nearby. Most of her time is committed to Bryan. Even though Bryan is limited, the family still very much like to entertain themselves.

The space is designed to aesthetically please the imagination of a child. Even if one cannot see it, the can feel and touch. Details is what matters here, such as carvings and stitches. Through textures, one can feel being in a different room, as well as giving elements in the household multiple uses. Such as combining furniture and rooms to maximize space and accommodate the family needs. Providing a sense of unity to the family through its environment. Designing a natural, organic environment can inspire the child’s imagination.

SAITO RESIDENCEEn Kitana Saito is a sign-language teacher. She is deaf and recently moved to San Francisco under section 8 for a teaching position. She teaches sign language in the nearby schools. Kitana has a cat named Milenna. She loves nature, taking care of various plants. Her hearing devices enable her to receive some sound. She likes to spend time outside in the woods or along the beach but as well as hosting game night as one of her pastimes.

CONCEPT STATEMENT The space is designed to speak as the one who resides cannot hear. The space speaks through its texture, shapes and form but as well as light. Light designed to evoke mood and accommodate different settings of the day to year. The space is her area of thought, thus seeing sound through artistic measures and her personal touch; such as plants. Like a picture is worth a thousand words, this space is worth a thousand feels. The idea is to create a space that makes us mentally and visual see such texture. This can be down by visually creating a sense of emotions through color and patterns. And also using the environment to illuminate the space. This brings in unity to the design.

DESCRIPTION OF OCCUPANTS AND EXISITING SPACE 13 Wood Street is a three-story residential con dominium building. Each story contains a separate condominium unit, for a total of three units. The building is located in the Laurel Heights Village area of San Francisco, CA. The building has been owned by the Mariotto family since its construction in 1955. The Mariottos are a three generation extended family. The family occupies the 3rd floor condominium. The 1st and 2nd floor condominiums will be listed for rent to low-income tenants, under a government-assisted rental housing program.
