Success in this book means to escape or get freed. The most success people had was being freed and becoming former slaves to tell about their past. The important thing is that slavery time has passed and that no one is ever to be enslaved again.

A SECTION OF YOUR BIAS ARTICLE AND HOW IT IS BIAS West African history encounters a major turning point with the introduction of the European slave trade. This lesson examines the slave trade’s effect on West Africans and Europeans at the end of the 18th century.
-I think this is bias because he said that it is a cultural mechanism which basically means it was part of daily life. I don't think anyone now would ‘buy’ a slave and make ‘it’ live in his house.
