The aroma garden is full of beautiful aromatic plants that attract wild

The eatable garden is full of home grown plants like sweet peppers, green beans, and tomatoes. The are here for the residents to use and care for.

The goal is to capture moments of inspiration when it strikes an artist and track that very moment from its orgins; through the process of making and finally to its product. I wanted to capture all of these moments architecturally while also paying respects to the ecological needs of the enviornment.

The spice garden like the eatable garden is for the resident’s enjoyment. It includes spices like thyme, sage and basil.

The gallery space not only serves as an area to view the completed work of all of the arists but as a space wher one can actually witness the process of making for these pieces of art through the viewing tubes that puntures the floor plates.

Urban enviornment is plagued with the reoccuring issue of creating disruptive unengaging breaks that ruptures the city’s contextual fabric. Due to the lack of conscientious urban planning these spaces become under used, unkept and provide no social function or engaging experiences at the pedestrian level, which leaves the designers with the challenge of making use or correcting these mishapen pockets of antispace. Instead of simply adding cosmetic treatments to these spaces to create a faux sense of place they should be studied and treated appropriately as an opportunity to truly create a unique public incubator that stimulates social interaction and experiential function within the site. By integrating architectural installations into a site’s unique contextual urban fabric theses void spaces can then be converted into valuable social places.

ANALYSIS

SITE

This analysis reveals the multitude of voids that exist along Church St. one of the most active streets in the Marietta Square. Also from a pedestrian perspective all of these pockets in the urban fabric remain invisible to the until you arrive directly in front of them creating an opportunity for discovery.

Thesis statement

Due to the physical conditions of the site that surrounds this void one can not view the site until you are directly in front of it. The urban fabric of the site acts as a continuous visual barrier that is suddenly broken when one comes upon this void. This condition gives this void the characteristic of surprise or discovery that disrupts the experience of the urban environment.
