Eleusis, in Greek Elefsina, is a town and municipality in West Attica, 20km north-west Athens, sitting at northernmost of the Saronic Gulf. With the population of 30’000 registered locals, the city residents to many industrial facilities, including the largest oil refinery in Greece. These industries help maintain the local economy, providing many job to the city and outsiders. The city also includes a military airport few kilometres east of Eleusis that played a crucial role in the final British evacuation during the 1941 “Battle of Greece”.

Municipality of Eleusis is currently working under the rules of democracy and transparency, trying to change the city for the better. They understand the responsibilities and aim to resolve problems, big or small, by facing the citizens separately or by the whole city. They concern the support of the community and believe to accomplish all of their aims with the support of the locals.

Eco-Eleusis is a non-governmental organisation that aim to improve the city of Eleusis through ecological point of view. They want to create a new identity of the city through the phase of “post-industrial”. They believe that to achieve an improved ecology of the city, they must educate the importance of it. They are aware that a new generation of people should be brought to the foreground to prepare this transition.
