Finally, they are set out in four bands of competence ranging from Band 1 to Band 4 and cover the entire professional career of a HR professional ranging from the start of the career to the top professional level. This has been designed by leading HR professionals, senior business managers and academics in order to be relevant to any HR professional working anywhere in the world. It is called CIPD profession map developed by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, a professional institute for human resource management, headquartered in Wimbledon, London. The profession map displays the eight behavioural skills that are required for ten different areas of the profession. This is set out in a


progressive level of four bands of competence that define the contribution that HR professionals make at every stage.  In Band 1 the HR professional supports colleagues with administration and processes. He/she effectively manages information and data. This band is customer oriented.  In Band 2 he/she leads a team or an individual, provides guidance on the recruitment process.  In Band 3 the HR professional leads a professional area as discussed above and sometimes addresses key HR problems and issues at an organizational level for medium and long term  In Band 4 he/she leads several professional areas and develops long term strategies and solutions to HR problems. A good HR professional must therefore show impressive results in each of the 8 skill areas, 10 professional areas and 4 band levels.
