2018/19 Interior Architecture & Design
r e y e B Alice
Hi there, In this portfolio you will find a selection of my university projects and some of the designs I helped to realize at my internship at Gabriela Raible Innenarchitektur in Munich. It is both an expression of my personality, as well as a presentation of my beloved work as an interior architect and designer.
2018/19
Curriculum Vitae „My love for details and materials sparked my passion for
interior design and architecture.“
Hello, my name is Alice Beyer Already at the age of nine it was my dream to set up houses and make places for people so that they feel comfortable there. I pursued my goals and dreams and started my studies of interior architecture in Trier, Germany. After eight semesters and a successful internship in Munich, I graduated in January 2019 with my bachelor’s degree and in addition I was the only graduate awarded with distinction of the BDIA (Association of German Interior Architects). My long-term boyfriend and I decided that, after our studies, we would like to gain additional perspective and new experiences abroad. We selected Ireland because of it’s many facettes and the very dynamic environment here in Dublin, in which we can really see our selves thriving.
In addition to the interest in interior architecture, I am passionate about languages, drawing, interior design and cooking. I am proficient in English and aspire to constantly improve it. My kind, positive, curious and above all, purposeful way of living is appreciated by my friends and co-workers. From my future job I expect friendly and open-hearted colleagues, with a lot of team spirit, as well as a creative and pleasant working environment. I am confident that working in one of the best interior architecture office in Ireland will not only help me to advance my professional skills. It will also bring a new perspective to the team by sharing all my knowledge and previous experiences with my co-workers.

The Green EXCLUSIVE GUEST HOUSE IN THE OLDEST CITY OF GERMANY; DEALING WITH THE PROTECTED STRUCTURE AND CREATING AN INTERPLAY OF OLD AND NEW SUBSTANCE The Guest House “The Green is my bachelor project and combines all my skills learned during my studies and internships in one project. My focus rested on the skilful selection of materials, which should not only follow the same theme as during the construction of the building in 1920, but also on modern elements, creating a cozy and welcoming atmosphere. Furthermore in terms of acoustics and energy management, as well as the landmarked aspect of the building, I wanted to find an extraordinary conception that is reflected both in the function and appearance of the guest
house. With the help of high-quality materials and new technologies of facade design, a contemporary yet unusual for the environment in the midst of a forest-lined area outside the city emerged. The concept is also based on ecological background and promotes regional agriculture and regional traders. This project was awarded with a distinction from the BDIA and received a grade of 1.3 (out of 1.0) according to the german grading system.

Analysis Of The Existing Building
HISTORY OF THE FORMER GYMNASIUM AT THE GRÜNEBERG, TRIER Built: 1927 Address: Am Grüneberg 27, TrierKürenz Floor area: 466 sqm
of Trier in the hope that it would take care of the preservation of the hall. The neo-classical style hall is also a listed building.
The gymnasium am Grüneberg 27, formerly 23, is located in the district of Trier-Kürenz outside the closed building, at the foot of the Grüneberg, and was commissioned in 1926 by the gymnastics club Jahn. It is a stretched plaster construction with slatecovered hipped roof, small triangular dormers and ventilation roof rider. The high windows with lattice division are located in doubly recessed fields. On the northern narrow side there is a twostorey wing, which accommodates dressing rooms and two apartments. It is a simple building with the rigor that corresponds to classicism at the beginning of the 20th century.
The square in front of the hall served until 1946 as clay court for the FSV Kürenz. Until 1975, the Black and White then played on the court at the listed gymnasium, before this was blocked for championship games. Now a large lawn extends before the staircase to the gym. Behind the hall is wooded area. In 2014, the hall was eventually closed by the city of Trier because of mold.
1965 a equipment room with a flat roof was erected on the right exterior wall. In 1971, the side wing was extended to a common shower room of approximately 23sqm on the ground floor. The roof of the shower room forms a balcony, which is accessed from the first floor.

Concept RETREAT: A SECOND HOME WITHOUT EVERYDAY STRESS The worries, the stress, the children, the household, the work - all these are factors that many people have to cope on a daily basis in today’s fast and, above all, digital age. Many just want a little break, just for a few days. Something quiet, all-inclusive and maybe even the connection to nature, to get away from the digital world and everyday life. Simply everything can cause stress in today’s world, which can often lead to burnouts. To leave all that behind, there is the “The Green”. Not in the Black Forest or in the idyllic Alps, but in the oldest city in Germany and a well-known wine-growing region; Trier in the Moselle valley. The small privately run inn is located outside the city centre on the Grüneberg, which takes its name from the resident Diabas (greenstone), a marble-like greenish volcanic rock. Despite the location, it is easily accessible by car and public transport. It has nine spacious rooms in the mirrored new building, a lobby bar with a distinctive ambience, which takes up elements of the Art Deco period, and a small restaurant for breakfast and dinner. The bar and restaurant are also open to guests from outside during certain days and times, but must be reserved in advance. In the restaurant, mostly regional and seasonal products are processed to support the farmers from the region. In front of the inn there was once a large lawn, which was a former sports field. This is now partly used for home-grown fruit and vegetables. If you are interested, guests can help or, depending on the season, assemble and buy a basket of fruit and vegetables. On the remaining part of the forecourt are the parking lots and a small pond with a terrace.

Due to the proximity to the Moselle wine-growing regions, vineyard tours or tastings are also offered by local winemakers, which either take place as a private event in the guest house or where guests or external parties can take part on certain dates. The area allows you to visit the city of Trier with all its sights, as well as to make walks and excursions in the Moselle region and in the surrounding vineyards. The name “The Green” is not only derived from the location, but everything revolves around the green and therefore to experience the “nature” with all senses.
12
The lobby not only serves as an entrance area, but also instantly represents a place to stay and a kind of living room. The art on the walls, spacious sofas as well as the pleasant lighting, invite guests to read a book or drink a cup of coffee or tea in one of the sofas. Just as you would do it at home. Only without everyday life. With the small number of rooms, the hotel offers a place of tranquility as there is no hustle and bustle, as is often the case in the big hotels in the city. All nine rooms are in the mirrored, three-story annexe. They offer floor-to-ceiling windows, which reveal the view of the green surroundings and thus bring nature into your room. The addition of the recesses in the faรงade revives the style of the Neoclassical. The asymmetrically arranged windows are in contrast. Due to the mirroring the cultivation almost merges with the environment.

Floor Plans And Zones The new floor plan of the Guest House can be divided into four zones. All personnel related process take place in the two-storey existing annex and in the back area of the lobby. On the ground floor there are two entrances on the northeast side: the kitchen entrance and the main staff entrance. The kitchen has a seperate entrance area. This serves the hygiene regulations, because here the shoes are exchanged. It adjoins directly the preparation room and the scullery with pantry / refrigerator. From there you get into the kitchen. The kitchen is only accessible from there and has no access to the remaining staff rooms due to hygiene regulations. An electric sliding door provides access for the waiters from the restaurant area. Behind the partition wall in the lobby are the technical room, the staff toilets and also the back office of the reception, as well as an emergency exit. The guest toilets, which are among the semipublic areas are hidden behind this wall. On the upper floor of the staff wing are the laundry
with laundry room and staff lounge including lavatories. Via a connecting corridor the staff gets into the new extension. The lobby includes the reception, the staircase to the first floor, the bar and the restaurant and covers 124 square meters with a ceiling height of 6 meters. The large lattice windows were increased in height and allow plenty of light to flood the large room. The lobby is a public area where all guests and visitors can move freely. In the adjacent extension a corridor connects the lobby with the individual rooms. An elevator allows barrier-free access to the upper floors. The guest area has three rooms per floor with private bathroom and a large floor-to-ceiling window, which brings the nature into the room. Guests can reach the first floor via the elevator or via the free staircase in the lobby. From the first floor you can reach the second floor by another staircase.

Create Mood With Lighting The main room of the Guest House includes the functions of entrance, reception, lobby and restaurant. At the same time it also represents the area when the guests are outside their rooms. For this reason, a thoroughly developed lighting concept is necessary. For basic lighting, the Erco Atrium double-focus down lights with 24W provide basic lighting in the room. They are distributed along the elongated central axis of the room and occasionally in the entrance, restaurant area and above the bar. The black glass-clad niches on the wall opposite the entrance are lit by the smaller version of these down lights. With the interplay of the reflection they create an interesting ambience. Targeted lens wall washers of the same series illuminate the wall at the staircase, where there are also works of art. The decorative lighting in the restaurant and lobby area is provided, among other things, by the wall and table lamps IC Lights by Flos. Chandeliers with incandescent bulbs swing over the tables of the restaurant and create soft light from above. Pendant lights in the same design can be found above the reception and in the seating area of the lobby.
Atrium Double Focus Down light | LED, 24W, 2520lm Atrium double-focus down lights are particularly suitable for use in high rooms due to their high luminous flux and special light distribution. Installed in the suspended ceiling, they provide sufficient basic lighting.
Atrium Double Focus Down light | LED, 6W, 630lm The smaller version of the Atrium down lights illuminates the black glass lined niches in the wall. The interplay with the black glass creates a mystical play of light.

The Mirrored Extension The Pollux Floodlights from Erco, which run in conductor bars, provide sufficient lighting for the corridors and the staircase in the extension. Large windows let in daylight into the rooms. The window, which sits flush on the landing, illuminates the staircase in a spacious way.
Atrium double focus lens wallwasher | LED, 30W, 3150lm The collimator and Spherolit- lens lens- systems, as wallwashers, provide efficient, precise and very uniform vertical illumination even at small wall clearances. They light up the art objects on the walls for the mirror cultivation.
Pollux floodlights for track | LED, 10W, 930lm Pollux was developed for versatile use. Due to its compact format, it plays its strengths particularly in museums, in retail, in restaurants or in the private living environment. Pollux illuminates the corridors and the staircase of the room building completely and specifically. 14 12 15 2

The supportive construction of the bench is made of square and laminated timber, which is mounted on the wall by large screws. A white carrara marble panel covers the underlying construction at the plinth and in the areas between the individual benches. The upholstery of the benches resumes the structuring of the marble by using a light gray mottled felt-like fabric. This has an increased abrasion resistance, is low water repellency and easy to clean.

„The Green“ Pattern Both, the stair railing and the parapets, as well as the curved porch in the entrance area are made of lasered steel with a brass coating. The fish scale-like pattern is derived from a well-known Art Deco element - the fan. It is inspired by nature, more precisely by the peacock fan. Through strong abstraction and the renunciation of unnecessary lines, a simple geometric pattern was created, which nevertheless can be traced back to the Art Deco style and has its origin in nature.

The Hotel Rooms The exclusive nine rooms of The Green are between 23sqm and 36sqm in size. In total there are five double rooms with king size beds, two double rooms with queen size beds and two single rooms with single beds. All rooms have their own bathroom, with toilet and double / single vanity. The rooms impress with loving details and are suitable for single travelers or couples. The double rooms are equipped with a cozy bench / lounge or an additional armchair. Single rooms have only an armchair with side table. A console with chair and reading light and mirror can accommodate personal items or can serve as a dressing table. The padding behind the bed offers the opportunity to lean against. Floor-to-ceiling windows with oriels lend light to the dark green rooms with black oak floor in herringbone look. Casamance blackout drapes are used to darken the rooms. Through concealed doors you get into the bathroom or the dressing room.
The bathrooms of the double rooms have a double vanity made of marble on a brass frame. Large round mirrors, which are backlit, take up the charm of the 20s in combination with the pendant lights. The white marble wall cladding merges into the floor tiles, which continue into the floorlevel shower.

Restaurant FAST AND SLOW FOOD RESTAURANT IN PARIS; MAIN FOCUS IS ON MATERIALS AND THEIR EFFECT ON THE HUMAN CONDITION IN THE GASTRONOMY The concept is inspired by a series of campaigns in the fashion world called the “Food Fashion Editorial”, which was launched in 2015 by major fashion companies such as Dior, Burberry or Moschino. Designers played with the concept of fast food in connection with fine accessories. This contrast between “cheap” fast food and expensive fashion items was a real eye-catcher and caused a stir. The “Slow Food” restaurant is located in Paris, because it is the centre of fashion and good style. Trendy materials such as velvet and leather, metals such as brass and black steel, and a mix of dark parquet and antique geometric-patterned
tiles set the tone. Poppy colours such as orange, yellow and pink set accents and are reminiscent of the colours of well-known fast food chains. Muted colours like dark emerald green and dark blue create cosiness and elegance. Since “Slow Food” is characterized by the fresh preparation, the kitchen is visible through glass elements . This creates an elegant, contemporary yet trendy concept, which gives the ever-popular Burger & Co. a new, stylish home.
29
Floor Plan and Zoning The layout of the restaurant has an entrance area with a windscreen and reception counter, a spacious cloakroom with access to the lavatories, an elongated dining area, as well as a lounge and waiting area with bar. The kitchen is open to the dining room through a large glazing. The view is interrupted by a floor-to-ceiling sideboard with dark glass backwalls. Overall, the restaurant has fourteen seats. Seven individual tables can be arranged by sliding to several larger or one large one. Thus, both eating in pairs, as well as in a large group is possible. Guests who have not reserved and need to wait for a table can do so in the bar and lounge area
with a drink. There is a large sofa and easy chair to relax. Possible transit areas of the guests and the staff are marked in color. Generally, a distinction is made between guest and staff paths. The process that guests usually follow is marked orange and numbered from 1 to 4. The staff process is turquoise and goes from 1 to 5.

Rece ption Counter Design The furniture in the entrance area, which serves the reception of guests, stands out visually from the dining room by a pedestal and its colour scheme. Despite its asymmetrical shape, it fits well into the ambience and does not stand out unpleasantly, as the construction process is oriented at the corner points of the walls. The uniform coloring of the wall, ceiling and floor makes the space behind the counter inconspicuous. Only the front shimmers in matte brass and thus attracts the attention of the guest when entering the restaurant. The sloping shape leads the visitor directly to the cloakroom area. The construction consists of 50 mm squared timbers and 12 mm thick MDF panels, which have been provided with a scratch and impact resistant, coloured coating in NCS 7020R90B. In addition, the furniture has a recess with power connector for an I-Pad to manage the reservations. An excerpt for documents, telephone and other accessories is also integrated. The lighting is provided by a pendant lamp (Linden vertical, The Future Perfect) and two wall lights (Kap Surface Wall, Flos) on the wall behind.

Colours And Their E ffects Colours are the Alpha & Omega in designing rooms. Since the room has a hall-like character due to the wall breakthroughs and a room height of 3.90 meters, the colour blue was chosen for the wall and ceiling design (NCS 7020-R90B) to create an optical reduction. Blue looks cool, calm, serious, meditative, resistant and clean. In addition, blue tones create a calm, relaxed and peaceful atmosphere that reduces nervousness and stress. The effect of the wall paint is enhanced by the long bench in the complementary colour orange. Orange creates a cheerful, relaxed atmosphere, exudes warmth and cosiness, and is a friendly and above all “social” colour. In addition, it stimulates the appetite and promotes socializing. The green VIA tiles and the dark green velvet couch counterbalance the two contrasting colours of blue
and orange. Because green is often perceived as balancing two poles as the colour is neither cold nor warm. Also health or healthy nutrition are often associated with the colour green. Green also sets the soul in positive vibrations, arouses the desire for new things, for discoveries. Thus, a uniform colour concept is created, which covers all stimulation areas of the senses and thus forms the appropriate basis for a cosy, convivial and modern restaurant. strongly stimulating

The Materials The main inspiration for the selection of materials came from modern fashion trends, which are often reflected in the interior world at the moment. For example, the combination of velvet and brass. Very inspiring were also the pictures of the company Christian Fischbacher, whose fabrics are mostly used in the design. The interplay of dark velvet tones with brass and dark smoked oak parquet ensures elegance. The patterned tiles by VIA and colourful, partly patterned fabrics and wallpapers by Christian Fischbacher create a poppy touch in
a playful way. The darker materials give the customer a sense of homeliness and a sophisticated ambience. The bright colours attract attention in contrast to the darker ones and create a feeling of happiness and energy.

Residential / Tiny House
Tiny House DESIGN OF A TINY HOUSE IN THE WOODS; MAIN FOCUS WAS THE ELABORATION OF ALL TECHNICAL DETAILS IN THE SUBJECT ASSEMBLY CONSTRUCTION Living space is becoming more and more expensive not only in metropoles such as New York, Tokyo or Paris, but also in German cities. At the same time, the number of single households is rising and people are much more mobile than before. This presents architects and planners with the challenge of creating space that adapts to these new circumstances: housing should be small yet comfortable and flexible. Sustainably built micro and mini houses meet these demands. The idea for this originates from a movement from the USA: the Tiny House Trend, whose significance is also increasing in Germany. At the heart of the move-
ment are values such as environmental awareness, a reduction to the essentials in life, self-sufficiency, social awareness, and sound financial plans. Tiny houses are residential buildings with an area between 15 and 46 square meters. Residents do not have to compromise on comfort: Design means more than just size, high-quality building materials are used and the houses are equipped with environmentally friendly and advanced technology.
37
Residential / Tiny House
Draft And Conce pt This Tiny House has a floor space of about 20sqm (about 6x3m), has a classic saddle roof and is to be built in wooden stand construction. A roomhigh glazing, which continues in the roof over the corner, provides sufficient daylight. A total room height of 5.45 m (FF to crest) allows the entry of a second level for the sleeping area, which is located above the bathroom core. In addition, it is possible through this ceiling height to build a shelf to below the ridge, which can be equipped with baskets. The upper compartments can be reached by a suspended ladder. An “off-the-shelf bench can be transformed into a sofa by an extract with stor-
age space and a few cushions. The kitchenette has a sink, a two coil electric range and a small fridge. The bathroom can be reached through a sliding door and is equipped with toilet, floor-level shower, vanity and a linen cupboard with washing machine. The ascent to the upper floor takes place with a ladder staircase. Heating is with infrared heaters. Since infrared heating combines space-saving heating with an ecological lifestyle, it is the ideal source of heat for micro-houses.

Family Home MY OWN PROJECT DURING MY WORK EXPERIENCE AT GABRIELA RAIBLE INNENARCHITEKTUR; IN COLLABORATION WITH HARDER GROH ARCHITECTS, MUNICH, A COZY SINGLE-FAMILY HOME FOR A FAMILY OF FOUR WAS BUILT. During my half-year work experience at Gabriela Raible Innenarchitektur, I designed this family home with the support of my managing director, Mrs. Raible. The owners commissioned the building from their architects Harder Groh. Together with Harder Groh, we designed an individual floor plan suitable for the family of four on four floors with outdoor areas. The house has a total of nearly 300 square meters. On the ground floor are the entrance hall with cloakroom and guest toilet, a large open plan
kitchen with dining area and a spacious living room with fireplace and access to the terrace and garden. In the basement of the house are the technical rooms, as well as a utility room and a separate accessible guest area with kitchenette. The first floor comprises a living hall, two children’s rooms with shower room and a terrace with lounge area. The attic contains the master bedroom with dressing room, separate bathroom and a small office.
43
Residential / Family House
Floor Plans and Concept At first, the floor plan we got from the architects was little and not very well worked out inside. Together with the owners we created a concept that makes it possible for the family to spend time together or to receive guests. A large kitchen / dining and living room, together with a runum glass fireplace, forms the heart of the house. Both the children and the parents each have their own floor. So everyone can retire individually and yet it is also possible to spend time together. In addition, there are also for visiting or later once the grandparents a granny flat in the basement.

Residential / Family Home II
Family Home II PROJECT DURING MY WORK EXPERIENCE AT GABRIELA RAIBLE INNENARCHITEKTUR; THE ASSIGNMENT WAS TO FIND AND DEVELOP A FLOOR PLAN SOLUTION FOR A FAMILY HOUSE BEING PLANNED BY AN ARCHITECT FOR A COUPLE AND A GROWN UP CHILD. The explicit wish was to create brightness and storage space in the living spaces. The terrace, the garden and the living room are south facing. Large floor-to-ceiling windows provide access and exterior views. A living area that serves as a retreat for the whole family should be created there. The dining area should provide space for at least six people. A large kitchen including pantry should also be planned, as well as a hallway with generous storage space and a guest toilet. Upstairs there is a guest room, the youth room with shower
room, two separate bedrooms and a large bathroom with tub. The builders wanted a generously designed ground floor, which acts as a retreat, but also offers enough space for larger celebrations and visits. A fireplace should become the focal point of the living and dining area and be visible from both sides. Our design should meet as many of these requirements as possible.
47
Residential / Family Home II
Floor Plans and Conce pt We planned a spacious entrance area with fitted wardrobes, which also act as a cloakroom and are opposite the staircase core. A small guest toilet is located right next to the stairs. The kitchen is parallel to the hallway and is separated from the hallway and living area by an industrial glazed partition. Upon request, it can also be opened completely. This way not only enough light gets into the internally corridor, but the kitchen can also be colsed if desired. In extension of the corridor, on the left side there is a large oak dining table with seating for six people. A built-in sideboard provides storage space. Opposite the dining area is the large, open living room with sofa area. The fireplace is centrally located at the end of the hallway and opens, with a triple glazing to the living and dining
area. Slightly set back, there is a retreat area with a reading chair in front of the half-open TV wall. Also from here, one can view the fireplace. The entire living area is flooded with light from five large windows. Upstairs our attention was on the desire for a walk-in dressing room for the client’s bedroom. Again, we questioned the entire floor plan and created a new concept, which includes a spacious dressing room, which adjoins the bedroom of the client, two bathrooms, a guest room, a youth room and a bedroom for the builders. The large hallway area is open up to below the roof and its walls serve as a space for works of art.

Wine House THIS PROJECT IS ABOUT THE CONVERSION OF A FORMER MILL PROPERTY IN THE EIFEL. AT THE DISPOSAL WAS A COMPLEX CLOSED OLD BUILDING AS A COURT YARD FROM THE 19TH CENTURY. I FOCUSED ON CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT AND CORPORATE The goal of the concept is to create a local meeting point that revives the small village Neroth and has a unique ambiance. A wine bar and a small restaurant with modern cuisine blend into the wine region Eifel and bring the old mill property to life. The result is a historic place, which has a quaint and at the same time modern ambience with its exposed attic and the partially exposed limestone walls. A two-part flooring creates two different room zones. Dark parquet marks the entrance and reception area. Old English tiles in del-
icate shades of gray and geometric patterns mark the dining room. At the transition of these coverings was originally the division of workplace and stables. Therefore, in the reception area with a modern bar, you can find a 6-meter-high window, which sits in the opening of the former barn door and floods the vestibule with light.

Corporate Design WINE AND FOOD ARRANGEMENTS
CORPORATE DESIGN
On the menu of the restaurant you can find compositions of red and white wines with the appropriate dish. Depending on the season, the menu changes accordingly. The card acts as a kind of placemat, but can also be served as a tableau, on a solid wooden board, at the table. The design of the card is simple and takes up the theme of the wine stain in the logo. The colors symbolize red and white wine.
Due to the nearby wine growing areas, it is possible to have your own wine produced. For this purpose, two different labels have been designed, which also take up the logo (see label 1 and label 2) and thus ensure a uniform image. The staff clothing is also coordinated with the colors. *photographs, lables and plans are created by myself
