INTRODUCTION and CONCEPT
DEVELOPMENT
My architectural focus has centered on creating spaces for socially vulnerable populations, a commitment evident from my earliest ventures in this field to my current projects. I have placed particular emphasis on children, recognizing that most architectural designs primarily cater to adults. However, understanding and addressing children's needs is crucial for nurturing an independent future generation. I took the "Children's Library" as my main program because of my deep connection with books during my formative years. I vividly recall the gloomy atmosphere of my community library, weighed down by its bulky concrete design. To cultivate a learning space free from rigid confines and seamlessly integrate the building with its surroundings, I adopted an approach of utilizing separate small cocoons to form a cohesive cluster, rather than erecting a singular structure on the site. This strategy, I believe, is paramount in breaking down the barriers between constructed buildings and their natural environment.

The fractal planning strategy harmonizes seamlessly with my vision of an ideal learning environment. It erases the confines between spaces, granting learners the freedom to explore diverse environments without rigid boundaries. This approach steered my design process during my tenure at NCKU.

This method is applied in the upcoming competition with my team members, where similar programs are in place. This strategy enables us to reduce the building's volume, transforming it into not just a school for students but also a communal space for the local community. Moreover, its design flexibility ensures adaptability to diverse site conditions, simplifying construction—essential in a country facing unstable financial circumstances and rapidly changing climates.

2. MARK OF TERROIR The Redesign Of Taimali Train Station #LANDMARK #TRANSPORTATION #TIME
/ Completed in May 2022 / Modified in Fall 2023 for this Portfolio / Instructor: Yu-lin Chen, Principal, MAYU architects / Working Type: Thesis Project, Individual Work
INTRODUCTION I would like to explore the relationship between landmarks, landscapes and place names. In my opinion, architecture as a landmark should be a medium for the residents to see new possibilities of life through space and a stunning starting point for visitors to enter the township - a place just like a theater. As the finest place to watch the sunrise, the site located in the middle of the slope between the steep mountains and the plains, and right in the narrow zone between the Pacific Ocean and the Central Mountain Range. At the moment of sunrise, this is. Besides, Taimali Township is famous for agricultural products, and the vibrant orchard right in front of the Taimari train station is a unique landscape spot. However, there is no proper space for selling and other mutual activities. Thus, I aim to intervene the presence in the form of architecture.
"EMBEDDING" The magnificent natural landscape encourages me to seamlessly integrate the new train station within its context. By doing so, I aim to minimize its environmental impact and avoid harm while harmoniously blending it into nature, allowing it to coexist with the land.

DESIGN STRATEGIES I defined the station as a virtual space and a complete dining space as a real space, to respond to the characteristics of the settlement in Taimali. The food space designed here is from the order of field to table from planting, cultivating, harvesting, processing, cooking, presenting, tasting, and perceiving, and finally returning to the dust.
PROGRAMS I placed the most dramatic function - the kitchen - on the ground floor, serving also as the only indoor space. The dynamic lines are arranged with the kitchen as the center, so the kitchen in operation can be seen from the dining area. It is designed not only for chefs, but also for events such as workshops and cooking classes for students.

I have defined a "spiritual space" as a realm for meaningful "conversations," encompassing not just everyday discussions but also the exchange through body language or performance. Inspired by "Songs of the Wanderers," a renowned modern dance piece by Cloud Gate, which finds its roots in Hermann Hesse's "Siddhartha: Eine Indische Dichtung," and drawing from my extensive 14-year dancing journey within Cloud Gate, I staunchly believe that communication through body language embodies a profound form of spiritual interaction among individuals. Therefore, my objective is to translate this invisible language into a tangible spatial experience.

REHEARSAL ROOMS + STAGES I have the structures seamlessly blend into the surroundings. The outdoor stages allow for the passage of light and air, integrating harmoniously with the environment. Additionally, I situated a portion of the rehearsal rooms below ground level. This decision aimed to reduce both environmental impact and visual disruption. Moreover, these underground constructions serve the dual purpose of fortifying the soil.

Regional Regeneration x Short-term Living Space #URBAN #MIX-USED #INTEGRATION / Completed in Apr. 2020 / Modified in Fall 2023 for this Portfolio / Instructor: Wan-Jen, Lin, Principal, studio HOU x LIN / Working Type: ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN 6, Individual Work
URBAN COLLECTION The vibrancy of Tainan, the oldest city in Taiwan, arises from its diverse array of architectural elements gracing the cityscape. The absence of strict regulations dictating architectural elevation design permits the simultaneous display of diverse aesthetic preferences across different generations and cultures. While some may interpret this as urban chaos, I perceive it as a distinctive hallmark of Taiwan's urban landscape, one that carries substantial value in the realm of design.
DESIGN CONCEPT My target in this studio is to portray and acquaint visitors with the urban landscape through spatial strategies. Additionally, incorporating a distinct brand essence into the space poses another intriguing challenge. From my perspective, traveling with a folding bicycle not only signifies the liberty of exploring any city but also reflects an individual's attitude and life preferences. Hence, I initiated my hospitality design project in this studio by partnering with BROMPTON.

SUSTAINABILITY and HUMANITY
Sustainability discussions should not solely center on environmental concerns but should also embrace humanity and the needs of disadvantaged groups. Upon reflection on a studio exploring how self-driving technologies impact urban development, I realized certain segments of Taiwan's society lack the means to express their needs. However, these groups unquestionably deserve inclusion in our swiftly evolving world. Consequently, I leverage a series of design projects to address sustainability issues.
Roads allocated for cars originally can be reduced, repurposing the area into green spaces or small farms which are accessible to citizens. Even the smallest spaces can contribute to a greener environment, allowing soil to breathe and facilitating rain absorption.

The advent of self-driving systems allows children and the elderly to reach their destinations without enduring lengthy waits at stations or struggling to find seats on crowded buses. This holds particular significance for Taiwan, given that most Taiwanese cities lack a comprehensive subway or extensive bus network.
In today's more convenient lifestyle, the avenues for youth entertainment have diversified, which makes the challenge more difficult. Besides, the goal is to create an impressive experience in public spaces without compromising the integrity of the surroundings.

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION and THE RACK The exhibition named “Actions for our Sustainable Futures" serves as a valuable case study for the integration of sustainable and circular economy issues into the design and emphasizes the importance of considering net-zero goals in exhibition design. Based oo the design principles, I designed the new exhibition rack replaces the old metal frame in the atrium and was designed with sustainability in mind. The researchers chose wood for its warm and durable qualities, and a modular design was prioritized for easy assembly and portability. The display rack consists of L-type and I-type elements that can be stacked and assembled without machinery. Design Meeting Additionally, a hollow-frame design was used to balance structural lightness and visual appeal while addressing concerns about heavy PHASE 1 and inaccessible racks.
