Lokananta is a first Indonesia recording studio which exists in Solo, Center Java and was built on October 29th 1956. This firm has more than 5200 vinyl collections from all over Indonesia that has been kept since the establishment of the building. Lokananta keeps so many historical things that recorded the development of Indonesian music. One of the Lokananta’s buildings has been declared as national heritage. In order to maintain the building including the history, the city government planned to use it as national music museum. The big idea is to build a new building next to the existing. The approachment used are contectual juxtaposition and contextual continuity so the concept is to make the contrast building which still uses some of the elements of the existing building such as the court yard concept, the form of the roof, the repetition of the window, the using of breezeway, and art deco style.

big idea :

The building mass is formed by some steps. First, it formed by the responds to site form and the existing building form. By adapted the court yard from the existing building, an open public space will be placed in the middle of the old and new building that has circle shape, in order to be contrast and more dynamic. Second, the form will be responds the circle shape and separated the form into two parts which adapt the symmetrical concept of the existing building. This separation is made by giving axis that leads to the center of the city.

As a music museum, this building will be designed by bringing the music ambience inside. This thing will not just only brought by listening music along the way in exhibition room but also giving another kind of ambience that adapted by the elements of a song such as intro, verse, chorus, bridge, and fade. Every element will be put on the visitor flow. They can feel it by the sequence, lighting, and the material. From intro to verse, they will find a mass in the center of the building that will lead them go to the next room. From verse to chorus they will go through up by a long little room with a little lighting in it. From one to the other exhibition room, they will pass ‘bridge room’ and last, back to the old building

big idea

Bringing back the FORGETABLE MEMORY by reviving the area with NEW SYSTEMS that connecting the SPACES. Directing the progression through a SYSTEM of functions, boundaries and thresholds that define SPACES for INTERACTION between the owner, community, and public.

This installation bring visitor to go to the backside. By using the woods, people can see shaded things which like they used to see when they watch ‘wayang’ (the traditional puppet show). The woods would be like the wall which is the one of the elements in this area. Not just being the wall, this wood installation will create like a bench and a canopy as well. From the forms, it will create unique shadow too.

The backside area has to be revived. It looks totally different from the frontside due to the owner of the house in the backside has different background. From that reason, we had a decision to make something that usefull and attract people to come. From the idea, we wanted to bring the forgetable memory, so we made a new pendopo and modified it into something modern as the part of mind (wayang). We made a modern cafe here. The concept is combining the 4 elements into one form, such as wind, earth, fire, and it focused on water. so The form created a form that can collect the rain water and make it as an attraction in the center of the space.
