The research project is focusing on White-collar workwear culture. According to the Cambridge Business English Dictionary, workwear means ‘clothes that people wear for work…’. (Cambridge Business English Dictionary, 2011). Workers divided into two main types, white-collar and blue-collar workers. These two types of workers used to categorize office workers and production workers (Cambridge Advanced Learner’s Dictionary, 2013). White collars including (but not limited to) teachers, doctors, (retail) managers, salespersons, clerks and bankers. Blue collars including (but not limited to) cleaners, drivers, construction workers (Herr et al., 2015). According to the specific career, several guidances are rules to workers on workwear. Certain luxury brand presents the brand attitude with the generous, strong relationship by wearing uniform (Merk, 2014:57), which seems to respect the work from their work outfit. Office workwear has no exceptions, people used to dress appropriately at work, even with suit and tie. In the late 60s and early 70s of Hong Kong, suits and ties have simplified and become popular, the demand for workwear has increased (Hong Kong Heritage Museum, n.d.). Nowadays people wearing sneakers with a sweatshirt from 9 am to 9 pm in the office, which looks more casual and comfortable than before. Regarding the opinion of Bulter (2019), different needs of works such as freelance, work from home and the rise of start-up business (Catherine, S. 2017) may change their habit, spending behaviour and lifestyle (Bulter, 2019). For instance, workout before goes to work and go to the gym room after work immediately.
Fig. 4. Tuxedo collar blazer (2020)
Brain Brick, chief executive of Moss Bros, points out the youngers want to be fashionable and trendy (Bulter, 2019)., the concept “You are what you wear (Beach, 1979)” blended into the new generation. “Dressing well is a form of good manners.” Said by the famous American fashion designer, Tom Ford (Mensah, 2016). The whitecollar workers can choose what they want to wear in the office, can the white-collar workers present themselves as respect their job by wearing more casual and comfortable?
7
“Athleisure” wear is surrounding us in both lifestyle and the fashion trend. Different luxury fashion brands are heading to the athleisure area with sports lines such as Tory Sport and SportMax. Dior starts the Athleisure trend by launching sneakers while Fendi is launching the capsule collection (Chen, 2016). This trend started around five years ago, and it lies with the workwear (Arnett, 2019). Everyone wants to bring a convenient look with comfy atmosphere to work. Bairbre (Power, 2017) states that the Athleisure trend may have displaced ordinary workwear as it is more than a trend but lifestyle with health and wellness (Catherine, 2016). This leads the sales of formalwear are decreasing, M&S states that the sales of formalwear such as jackets fell by 10% the same as last year (Bulter, 2019). Since it brings more challenges on workplace wear and the value of it may query by the workers, which leads the border between workwear and athleisure wear to work are ambiguous.

Fig. 5. Spring 2019 Ready-To-Wear Look 1/20 (2019)
The trend of ‘Athleisure’ is one of the elements that bring the workers from formal workwear to more casual workwear. There always other reasons; for instance, it may include the new generation did not respect their job compared to the mature generation. In relation to the ‘Job Seeker Salary Report 2019’ conducted by jobsDB HK (2019), 43% of them switch their jobs who are youngers under 30 years old. 30% are with less than five years of working experience. Approximately half of the workers did not find a new offer, yet before they resigned. It has shown that the younger generation quit their job quickly with no responsibility. Shao, the JobsDB Country Manager of Hong Kong (Newsroom, 2019) states that the younger generation, especially the Generation Z, seen profits as a vital element. For instance, they prefer more relax with the flexible working hour, which leads them to quit the job easily compare to the other age groups. The main reason of resigning the job may because they cannot adopt the working environment, not satisfied with the salary and believes there are better jobs with higher pay with lack of motivation (Newsroom, 2019). They cannot stand the job and think they deserve better, which can see the new generation workers are egocentric. The is a contrary fact to society and push the workplace wear into more challenging. 8

PURPOSE AND AIMS Most of the research and studies in the workplace wear aspect are focusing on the blue-collars, the combination of Athleisure and office workwear and the attention on the guidance of office workwear. For example, Davidson, the winner of Professional Clothing Awards’ (PCA) Vision 2018 (Arthur, 2018) focused on the developing and solving the problem of blue-collar uniform and workwear, which can protect them during the working period but a more comfortable and appropriate product. Furthermore, the athleisure office wears instead of office work by elimination who gives up on suit and tie and replace by business casual for multiple businesses and sporting events after work for men (Melissa, 2019:54). These studies are principally focusing on the outlook of the workwear but not the function and purpose of workwear. Some of the research pointed out that dressing manner is related to the working attitude (Louis, 2017). 10
Nowadays, people are becoming more fashionable but egocentric and not seen jobs are essential, especially the younger generation starting from Generation Y (JobsDB HK, 2019). The definition of professional (white-collar) workwear and athleisure wear are ambiguous.
Fig. 9. COS by you 2 (2020)
Therefore, the aim of this study is expected to investigate by understanding the workwear consumer needs, to develop and sustain the workwear culture of Hong Kong, to formulate the working attitude into to a severe and respectful culture through fashion business. It intends to change the morale of whitecollar into respectful workwear to sustain the workwear fashion market and rectify the attitude of office worker through fashion.

P R E L I M I N A RY L I T E R AT U R E REVIEW Athleisure at work (Challenges of workwear)
The athleisure is being the mainstream and accepted in the office with suits on but sneakers to replace high heels (Jenss. H and Hofmann. V, 2019). This do not seem to be a problem but a trend which keeps growing in these few years. It becomes a contemporary garment in the wardrobe with advent fibre and fabric. The style of Athleisure is way more exceed than other fashion ( Jenss. H and Hofmann. V, 2019). The trend of health and wellness lifestyle drives the sales of Athleisure to rise. Consumer, especially men are more willing to spend on athleisure appeal for the non-sport purpose (Mintel Press Team, 2016) Most of the studies state athleisure is the trend and could replace professional workwear because of convenient and comfortable but did not mention issue of replacing professional workwear. The growth of Athleisure may replace workwear and other fashion, which can corner the fashion market and affect the development of fashion.

Power of Dressing
Dressing well is a significant power. In the aspect of television and social media, power dressing is a symbol of well-educated and independent to women. It used to define and balance feminine and professional in the working industry. This professional style is one of the encoding tools as powerful women who can manage their business with substantial gender equality. (Andò, 2015) This study state dressing is presenting something on the wearer to determine if it is professional and powerful, which means dressing is essential and it is impressive. 13
Fig. 13. Chriselle Lim Explains How to Make Money Using YouTube and Instagram (n.d.)
Power of Dressing An investigation studied on the outfit of the workers, most of the customer are faithful in the worker who is in traditional business formal. The casual and difference of workwear may bring the unkempt appearance (Raj, Khattar, Nagpal, 2017). A company has cancelled the dress code in the office, which can wear anything to work, but some people do not appreciate it because dress code is part of the company image (Raj, Khattar, Nagpal, 2017). People used to judge by the outfit, and it includes dress code, it alters how others regard and behave (Raj, Khattar, Nagpal, 2017). Some studies show that people can achieve more when they wear nicer. The company should maintain the dress code to educate the workers to respect the job and achieve better, dress to be attractive can bring confidence to work. It can also bring more motivation for work and better communication with colleagues.

The methodology of this research project is expected to conduct in both primary and secondary research. Further research the innovations and proposed ideas and suggestions from different perspective.

Qualitative and quantitative research will be conducted to questionnaire with the office worker for more understanding the needs, culture and value of Hong Kong office wear. Interview and work on the white papers to understand the perspective of the HR department from the company and investigate the reason for the disrespectful workers, which would be a focus on the conditions from the professional.
16
As the current uncertainties situation in Hong Kong, people usually work from home, which is hard to observe the workwear culture on the street. Moreover, it is expected to interview with different HR department from a different company, but it is not easy to find someone in the HR department who are willing to answer the questions. As the target group who are working in the office is very broad. It is hard to take the balance between each company background.
