Jacqueline Cornaby, Keynote Speaker, 2014 Pilot International Annual Convention & Leadership Conference Chicago, IL • July 2-6, 2014

Dear Pilots, The Convention Planning Committee has been hard at work designing the exciting and educational experience that awaits you at this year’s Pilot International Annual Convention & Leadership Conference! Inside this newsletter you will find a wealth of information about this year’s event including details about our new FUNdraisers, exciting pre-convention Chicago area tours, special events, new mentoring opportunities for first-time attendees, our enhanced Navigator program, the 2nd Annual Anchor Leadership Summit and much much more! We are also thrilled to introduce this year’s keynote speaker, Jacqueline Cornaby (pictured below left). The author of “Get to Good: A Mantra for Life,” Jacqueline is most known for her mainstream transformational coaching for individuals and audiences worldwide. Her popular Jacqueline ISM, Oh My Stars, is her voice of empowerment calling upon potential. We are excited to welcome Jacqueline to this year’s international convention which promises to be the best one yet! We are also pleased to announce that approximately 350 of our new I AM A PILOT - PILOT INTERNATIONAL NEW MEMBER GUIDES have been mailed out from HQ to members who joined since July 1, 2014. Moving forward, if your club is having an initiation ceremony, you may choose to request that your new members bring their guides with them. Please remember that these guides (which replace the previous new member packets) are now being mailed directly to each new member from Pilot International Headquarters at no cost to the clubs. This new benefit of membership will hopefully help our new members connect to our larger organization. While these guides are not available for purchase by clubs or individuals on a regular basis, they will be available at convention in Chicago at $5 each. We realize that many Pilots may want their own copy of this beautiful guide. Your club may wish to purchase a copy to have as a model to display at Share Pilot events. This exciting new publication is part of a whole collection of new materials now available to help our clubs recruit and retain new members. You can find out more about this new suite of resources on page 8. We also would like to take a moment to once again invite you to participate in the Pilot International leadership nominations process, currently underway. Serving as a Pilot leader has benefits beyond a stronger and more effective organization. It also benefits the individual Pilots. New skills, personal growth, and opportunities to meet new people...Pilots experience all these and more. There is no better training ground for management than elected office. Taking part in the decisions that shape the Pilot organization is a reward in itself. More information on this process and its requirements can be found on page 2. I ask that each of you take the nomination process seriously and give careful consideration to nominate qualified candidates for each office at all levels of Pilot... and to accept nominations if you are asked. In Pilot Friendship,

Judy Langley Pilot International President

Pilot International News • January/February 2014 Appeal to Participate in the International Leadership Nomination Process To be successful as an international organization, Pilot International must have a diverse slate of talented, qualified and committed nominees from which to choose next year’s leaders. All Pilots, by joining their clubs and enthusiastically giving of their time and energy to participate in club activities, have shown their willingness to serve their communities. The next logical step is serving in leadership positions at the club, district and international levels. Remember that many Pilots may be willing to serve, but simply have not been asked. A few reminders: • Club officers must be elected no later than one month prior to District convention. • All district officers must now be elected, and must have previously served as president of a Pilot Club. • No nomination is required for PI President, as President Elect Sherry Johnson will automatically assume the position of President at the close of international convention in Chicago. • Nominations for the international offices of President Elect, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and four Directors are to be made, beginning in January, with qualification forms due to Pilot International by April 23, 2014. Detailed job descriptions and requirements for each office can be found in Article XXV of the Pilot International Bylaws: http://www.pilotinternational.org/imapilot/governance • Please see the following link for qualifications for international officers: http://www.pilotinternational. org/imapilot/2014-2015pinominationinformation If your club nominates a candidate for an International office, please inform the potential candidate of his/her nomination as soon as possible, so that he/she may have time to complete and submit the qualification form by April 23, 2014. Nominees must also prepare a vision statement and include references and a professional headshot with their qualification form. Please send a copy of the nomination to Pilot International Headquarters and the nominees’ club president. After a candidate’s information is received... 1. In compliance with Pilot International Bylaws, PI Headquarters will provide copies of the qualification forms of all candidates to the PI Nominating Committee. 2. Thirty days prior to the international convention, approved qualification forms (including vision statements) will be provided to each club, to the Pilot International Administrative Council, and to the Past Pilot International Presidents. The information will also be posted on the PI website. 3. All nominees will participate in a forum prior to the election held at the Annual PI Convention. Vision statements will not be read by the nominees before the convention body.

Introducing Pilot’s New Club and Individual Awards! “…We shall radiate that which is unselfish, beautiful, and true.” Pilots and Anchors exemplify these words found in our Pilot Code of Ethics on a daily basis as we serve others in our global communities.

It is the nature of Pilots to do good for others and not seek accolades for doing so. However, Pilot International, in an effort to inspire others and provide some of the best practices, has chosen to recognize some of our unsung heroes. We want you to be a part of making this happen by nominating individuals and clubs for the various awards we have put in place.

To learn more about these exciting new awards, please visit the Pilot International Website at the following link: http://www.pilotinternational.org/imapilot/pilotinternationalawards. Please note that Pilot International Headquarters highly encourages clubs to submit nominations online and submit required supplemental documentation in electronic PDF format. In order to facilitate this effort, Pilot International is currently compiling a “How to Create PDF Dossiers” tutorial which will be available on the Pilot International Website at the above link starting the week of March 3.
