OLSEN WALK - BROADMEADOWS
OLSEN WALK
Olsen place in Broadmeadows is transformed into four phases to encourage a revitalization of the villagestyle shops. The redevelopments includes art studios for working and learning, an apartment block for artist to live in, a gallery for exhibiting and selling arts, an upgrade of the existing shop fronts and a culturally inspired walkway for Olsen place. Graffiti issues and vandalism are discouraged by providing a dedicated place to showcase street art and local crafts. Olsen place is embraced once more as a place to live, learn and work.
PERMEABLE PAVEMENT Based on the feedbacks from local community, permeable wood pavement is used for the new design of Olsen Walk (Olsen place). It not only isaesthetically pleasing but also collects rain water, which will be preserved in water tank underground for to be used by local business owners based on their needs.
DANPALON ROOF (Gallery) Danpalon system is proposed to be used for gallery roof, it reduces construction time and saves more money which is more economical and green. Highly flexible, the Danpalon system bends by cold bending (on supporting structure) or thermoforming, depending on the radius.

LANDSCAPE AND HARDSCAPE DESIGN: Grass crit has been used to create mild soft walkway in the dominant space inside the building. In accordance with sport concept, parcourse and running track has been designed to fit within the dominant space where teenagers play in safe and lively atmosphere. DESIGN STRATEGIES To use linear elements from one side of buildint to create visual contact to the dominant (sport facility) space. To design double frontage building to correspond with surrounding Site. To locate important programs to front of building to attract teenagers. Use glass to make visual connection to outside. Apply color to glass, to enhance the attraction. To make oval form in the center of building to embrace the dominant space. To design staggered building, so whereever is the user in the building, by coming to balcony, he/she can feel they are part of dominant space.
The idea drive from chowkit itself. Teenagers are very acvtive in this vibrant area and they are exposed to dangers like gangs and drugs. They do not have any proper sport facility in the area where they can release their energy and revitalize their self-esteem. So the concept of lively center is born to propose solution to current problems in chowkit. Location: Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman Registered members: 800 Active members: 50 Current building: Double storey shophouse Activities: Martial arts, computer lab, gym, parcourse, rock climbing wall and dance class. ISSUES: 1. Most of chowkit teenagers addicted to drug. 2. Site is quite isolated at night. 3. No recreational space in chowkit area Objectives: 1. Provide sport facilities to revitilize their self-esteem. 2. Create colorful glass facade to attaract people. 3. To provide active and safe recreational space.

UM-NUS Joint studio program, in cultural heritage study in Ipoh, Malaysia
T
he program started end of July that 10 students from University Malaya and 10 students from National University of Singapore met in Melaka, one of the tourist destinations in Malaysia. After 2 days we started our trip to Ipoh town and stayed there for almost 10 days, measuring 4 heritage buildings. The groups consist of both UM and NUS students. My group measured a long shophouse called “Trade house” in old town of Ipoh. After measurements were done, then we went to NUS in singapore to start producing drawings, making models and started to complile informations into book. Six months later book was out and we (Um-NUS) students both really enjoyed the program which gave us so much experience in both town planning and heritage buildings.
