08. PUBLIC SPACE. AN URBAN PARK The concept was born from a site analysis where i was frustrated with the traffic there, a site with many historic monuments that are neglected. My solution was to transform the streets into green streets, removing the car and welcoming people, giving them the opportunity to relax walking through the historic neighbourhood, but sorrounded by nature. The proposal for the site was inspired from the arcades in Bucharest, but reinterpreted for the necesity of a park, therefore creating a greenhouse like space, an urban park for any weather. The final design presents an organic form, a contrast between solid concrete mushroom-like structures and the transparent wireframes that protect the space and also ventilates when needed.

05. COMMUNITY HOUSING This team project, consisted of two people (a friend and I) was inspired by the history of the neighbourhood. Before the industrialisation of the communists, there used to live a community of city gardeners, who where famous for their agriculture, vegetables mostly. Our concept was to reinstate the ambience of the neighbourhood by creating sustainable architecture with gardens and crops that define it and the site, also with a public market and park open to the people. The brief was to build 9 houses for a community of friends and also other functions that where considered necesary to the solution. By rising the crops on the roofs we eliberated the ground, leaving it public and enjoyable. Link to rendered video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qt8QoSPGPKQ

04. SKINNY HOUSE The concept of this family house was born from the moment of choosing the site. Being free to pick any site, I was intrigued by an unusual one. A very narrow terrain (almost 6m by 30m), determined to show that you can easily resolve the problem of rapid densification in cities. My proposal was to occupy the whole land with the first floor that consists of the day zone but burry it enough so not to create blind walls for the neighbours. I then punctured two courtyards that bring nature and natural light into the first floor. The bedrooms are rising where the blind walls of the neighbours are and a green roof over the first floor creates a pleasing view on the whole assembly.

01. STRAY DOGS SHELTER / PHOTOGRAPHY PAVILION My proposal for the pavilion is a photography expo of stray dogs, that also has a shelter for them (after being saved from the streets). People can adopt the dogs and thus become an owner of a living piece of art. Therefore, my concept solves both problems (the programme and the big terrain) by creating a remarkable space for the exposition and the shelter, also solving a noticeable problem here in Romania, stray dogs, by not killing them, but by giving them a second chance.

03. OPEN PLAN HOUSE The first preoccupation for the project was arranging the functions of the house, separating the day and night zones. After that, i wanted to create more intimacy between the zones (even if i placed the house in a forest with an acces to the road, i felt the need for private courtyards for every room). Thus my solution offers these walls that connect the outside with the inside, stabbing from the exterior the simmetrical grid inside to create a filter that not only separates the rooms but also creates private courtyards outside of the house, eventhough they aren’t fully enclosed.

10. The wave. A wooden shed

02. THE WAVE. A WOODEN SHED The inspiration for the project was a print of a famous japanese painter Katsushika Hokusai. The art was “The Great wave of Kanagawa” which I loved because of its dynamic representation. I was intrigued reading the brief, that stated the necesity of a covered space made from wood structures, whilst banning curbed forms. This interdiction made me design an organic form, a curbed structure that actually consists of only straight elements. Therefore, the idea of a wave, studying the nature of it, from when it’s born until collapse drove my project. This shed is actually the freezing of the wave in time and form.

10. INTERNSHIP. Parametric Bookcase This was my first project as an intern, which was to design a personalised bookcase for the office. I started from the simple grid with enough space for the books and the size of the whole object to fit on the wall. Next I took the parametric approach and made attractors that would model the section of the shelves with the office needs in a fluent way. The final form gets cut where the shelves are too small, thus leaving space for the logo. I also designed a second one for a client, which was personalised to the space and his needs. The bookcase was featured in the romanian architecture magazine “Arhitectura in 2015.

07. SPACE IS MORE. 120 HOURS competition entry 2016. This year’s brief was to design a house without function, site, nor programme. To reverse the design process, focusing on the fundamental qualities of composition and space. The team consisted of two members (a friend and I). The text below explains our utopic proposal in detail.
