Digital Books Vs. Print Books 3
Introduction Until a couple of years ago, I had always read novels in print. However, ever since my boyfriend bought me a Kindle Paperwhite, I have not read a book in print, that is, except for when it is required in my classes. The reason why I no longer read novels in print is because the benefits of digital books outweigh the benefits of print books. Who knows how much longer books are even going to last in a society that is constantly upgrading in regards to technology? In order to get the same benefits that I am constantly receiving from my Kindle Paperwhite, people need to know how to use this type of technology effectively. For those who are unsure about making the big transition from books in print to books on a screen, it might help to learn the settings on Paperwhites that best benefited me in order for a person to achieve the best reading experience that he or she can imagine.

Body Digital books are beneficial for a number of reasons. One of these reasons is that I can access my library from literally the tips of my fingers with my Kindle Paperwhite. With print books, my library would have to stay at home. Needless to say, my tangible library is not mobile. Since Kindles are constantly being updated, they now have this new setting which allows a family member access to another family member’s library. Having said that, my mother can now read the books that I have recommended to her without having to buy her own digital copy. http://g-ecx.imagesamazon.com/images/G/01/ki ndle/dp/2012/KC/featureshopenglish._V358667310_.jpg

With my Kindle Paperwhite, I can immediately find the definition of a word by holding my index finger on said word. With print books, I would have to make sure that I had Internet nearby to look up any definitions, which would take more time than simply holding the tip of my finger to my Kindle Paperwhite screen. I never thought about taking notes or highlighting certain words or phrases when I was reading print books until I saw that my Kindle had this as an option. I enjoy highlighting inspirational text that I can share later with my friends and family.

My favorite thing about my Kindle Paperwhite is that I can adjust the lighting on it and unlike books in print I can read my Kindle Paperwhite in the sun without having the sun reflected on the pages and blinding me. Also, I am able to read in the dark without worrying about proper lighting or hauling a book light with me wherever I go.

I can access my whole library of books through multiple medias. For example, I can pick up where I left off with my novel by reading it on my cell phone. This is possible due to the free Kindle app., which I can also access on my tablet. I can change the text size as well as the font. I can even change the line spacing, margins, and the font itself. Another important thing to keep in mind is that while Paperwhites do need charged, the charge lasts weeks and sometimes longer. It all depends on how much time a person spends reading.

The cost of digital books is generally cheaper than print books. Since I have http://img1.digitalversus.com/test/74/7439/feat ure-design__V385943044_.jpg already given my Kindle Paperwhite my credit card information, I can buy these relatively cheap digital books with the “One-click payment method. By this particular form of payment, I am able to buy a book, which will then immediately be available to me on my Kindle.

The main reason traditional readers have for not reading digital novels is because they enjoy the sensation of feeling the pages turn. I cannot blame them for this, but this seemingly only benefit that they offer regarding their print books seems insufficient. I would rather partake in the sensation of carrying a lightweight Kindle Paperwhite with me, rather than feeling the weight of my books that usually contain four hundred pages or more.

I have also heard that people tend to treat Kindles like tablets, cell phones, and other similar technologies because Kindle Fires, which are upgraded versions of Kindles, offer just as many, if not all, similar features. Because people are able to access the Internet as well as several other things on both Kindle Paperwhites and Kindle Fires, these addictive features are a major distraction for reading novels. In order to prevent this distraction, I would advise only using the Internet browser for buying books. In this way, I am never distracted while reading.

Conclusion When trying a new technology, such as my Kindle Paperwhite, I have learned that it is essential to be patient with the adjustment of it. During this adjustment phase, one must weigh the advantages and disadvantages of their new technology, especially when comparing it to older technology, like print books, in this case. The benefits of Kindle Paperwhites clearly override print books, but a person will not be certain of this until he/she tries it for one’s self. Change is inevitable, so a person might as well try new things with an open mind.
