We wanted to incorporate a modern style into our restaurant so we researched some modern style works ranging from photos and art to buildings and festivals. The Bahรกi house of Worship, New Delhi.

Name For our restaurant name we wanted something that was unique and from the Hindu tradition. We also wanted something that meant something but not out of context or something ridiculous. We looked through a list of names and their meanings and finally decided that Kama was appropriate. Here’s the list of names and their meanings.

Samadhi

-Final stage of meditation in raja yoga in which a person’s mind reaches the ultimate reality.

Chavadi

- Place of public assembly of a village. It is the property of the entire community in the village.

Kama - Best described as atheistic. The general definition involves sensual gratification, pleasure of the senses, love and the ordinary enjoyments of life.

Kamadeva - Hindu cupid, messenger of love.

Logo Ideas

In order to develope a logo we researched key elements of India. We found that the Taj Mahal was one of the most iconic and famous buildings in India. We also found that the Lotus Flower was the national flower of India. Both of these symbols have beautiful design elements within them so we decided to take our favorite elements and combine them.

We chose Elizabeth’s logo number 3 for the final restaurant logo, and Wes’ logo number 3 for the final retail store logo. The both incorporate design elements pertinent to the Indian culture.

Type Test 1 So now that we had our name decided it was time to pick on a typeface that went with our name and our logo.Our logo is geometric so we thought that a san serif was appropriate. So we choose Avant Garde ITC Gothic.

Type Test 2 Of course Kama just can’t stay by itself. With out a descriptive word underneath Kama just sounds like comma. So we decided to put Indian Restaurant underneath it.

Color After picking a few photos and multiple color pallets this is the one we choose. We stuck with the tertiary colors red, orange, and yellow. We feel that these colors are best associated with India and our restaurant because of the bright vibrance and warm tones they offer.

Menu The menu for Kama has a minimal selection of food. Too much of a selection of food could be intimidating at times. Because our spices are imported from India and we want to keep everything fresh we keep a limited amount of items on the menu but change it often.

The metal tins shown here are not only packaging, but they’re also magnetic. So if you didn’t have anymore room in your spice cabinet you can just stick these on your refrigerator. Our spice area in our retail shop will also allow you to blend your own spices, so if you wanted to you could bring in your own spice containers, or just buy one of our own.

Chai We will also offer Chai from our retail store with three flavors. Mansala Chai, which is the traditional Chai that they make in India. Original Chai, which is what we’re accustomed too in America and Vanilla Chai which has a sweet vanilla flavor to it.

Shiva is one of the more popular gods in Hindu tradition. He is known as the destroyer god. When Shiva is in this pose he is known as “Lord of the Dance.� Fire in Hindu religion destroys but purifies, so he is destroying the earth so Brahman the main Hindu god can recreate the earth and start life over. For the codes and sustainability part of both the Restaurant and Retail vary. From the exterior of Kama we have a ramp for ADA and easier access to the building The rest rooms meet all ADA standards. In the rest rooms we incorporated a five foot circle parameter to allow for easy wheelchair access along with one ADA stall and lowered lavatories. Both the patio and dining areas are ADA accessible and allow for such seating. Each spaces access is achieved through the use of ADA codes and accessibility.
