Behind the scenes, Malek’s voice was blended with Mercury’s as well as Pops by the Sea guest artist Marc Martel.
It was the pinnacle of what has been a second act for Martel who rose to fame in 2011 after his YouTube rendition of “Somebody to Love” gained worldwide attention for his uncanny resemblance, visually and vocally, to Mercury.
That one video, which has amassed over 21.5 million views was enough for Martel to say goodbye to his previous would see him entertain audiences, first as the lead singer of Queen’s official tribute show, The Queen Extravaganza, and currently with The Ultimate Queen Celebration.
Legendary Queen drummer Roger Taylor once told the Mercury’s. “You listen, close your eyes and you think it is Freddie. It’s really uncanny.”
Having performed on “American Idol” and for the San Francisco Giants, the Los Angeles Clippers and at opening night of the Kentucky Derby, Martel will give Pops by the Sea audiences a glimpse of what they can expect next year and led to an appearance on “The Ellen Degeneres Show,”
performance of “Bohemian Rhapsody.”
