AFRICA SPEAKING AND BEING HEARD
CV
Dear Africa Low socio-economic conditions, civil unrest and public health nightmares have become the order of the day in our regional healthcare system. Unfortunately, the condition does not in any way reflect the hard work and commitment put by medical students and healthcare professionals into their day to day jobs. Now is the time to pull together and change our narrative from poor results to efficiency and excellence. I am convinced that through making our grassroots systems more efficient, aligning ourselves to global standards and rigorously building our capacity as a region we can move closer to our goals and this is why I am applying to be Regional Director.
Since I started my journey with IFMSA 4 years ago, the organisation has created a platform for me to build and foster meaningful relationships with my fellow medical students in ways that I could have never imagined before. I was moved by the inspiring stories of the hardworking medical students in the region, stories of the impact they are making in their communities regardless of circumstances of very low resources, unsupportive environments and civil unrest. These stories not only inspired me but aroused a certain discomfort in me. A discomfort that I simply could not shake off because in more ways than one I am one of those students. I am coming from a background that had nothing particularly special, I became a medical student in a country with financial and bureaucratic barriers that make it a mammoth task to even voice an opinion or meaningfully participate in dialogue on medical education, public health or issues of rights and peace. I know I am one of the lucky ones whose story did not end where it started. I found a voice in IFMSA, it became a vehicle through which I learnt to speak in various trainings, meetings and conversations with many who have seen and overcome the adversities we encounter in our region. I understood how lucky I was to have found my voice and it made me uncomfortable that some
just like myself still have not found theirs. I understood how important it was that every young person in the region finds their voice and purpose too and because I understood this, I determined to put my name up for Regional Director because the everyday medical student deserves to be represented by an everyday medical student. I implore us all to hold hands, move into the future of global healthcare in IFMSA, LEAVING NO-ONE BEHIND. The passion and work ethic of the students of IFMSA has inspired me past my fear of serving in the region’s health sector. Everyone I met in the federation was driven by the goal to create better health outcomes through community building. I saw the power of intergenerational transfer of knowledge. Together we leveraged on our knowledge to set up local projects that allowed us to champion sexual reproductive health and rights to the rural populace. Some of these projects became a joint partnerships like ‘The IMUNZI Project’ between ZiMSA and IMCC which eventually was a top 10 nominee for the Rex Croxley Awards, giving us a platform to demonstrate good community leadership and networking within the federation. Working with people I admired on upgrading our IFMSA membership three years ago;
I was sold to the infinite possibilities that the federation presented for a regular African medical student. It presented the possibility of broadening horizons and networks, standing for something far bigger than oneself. As I started working with colleagues and mentors like Alaa Ibrahim, Elizabeth Peters, Parth Partel and Patrick Djabou who were from diverse backgrounds on various campaigns and projects like the Africa Regional SCORP publication of 2017, I learnt to operate in multicultural and multigenerational environments and I resolved to be a leader that is prioritises reaching out to our alumni to build ourselves on their experiences which is something I would like to continue as RD. In our political and economic landscape we need leaders to be prepared for disasters regardless of our limited resources. A few months ago, tragedy struck our nations Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Malawi, we were exerted to a shocking glimpse of what climate change can do when it knocks on one’s door. Homes and livelihoods were left in a public health crisis after a tropical cyclone. This storm affected me in a number of ways but most of all I saw a powerful thing happen, the Federation stood in full force and brought a lot of publicity to the victims of this storm; support
poured in from the leadership of IFMSA, fellow NMOs, the regional team and most importantly the gallant individual medical students from the region. As Development Assistant, I helped coordinate efforts of various medical students associations and youth organisations who provided personnel and material support to the affected people. Given the responsibility of Regional Director; I will continue this work, find opportunities for our members to volunteer in such areas and collaborate with the NMOs to ensure that we develop close relationships with NGOs and other institutions so that we, as the region’s healthcare students, are more prepared to respond swiftly when a disaster hits our continent. I served as a National Officer of Rights and Peace in ZiMSA, a position in which I was placed in the deep end of policy writing and external representation. I got to experience the good, the bad and ugly aspects of engaging academic institutions, government and external partners on student, patient and women’s rights as my job was to lead SCORP and liaise with relevant stakeholders. We need to have regional representation that is charismatic and confident enough to engage our major institutions and get them to listen to us and over the years I have acquired such skills.
During this time I was also captivated by how inclusivity and equity are the bedrock of sustainable institutions, this is why it is important to me that we ensure that the African region emerges as a trailblazer in these aspects. We will make it our priority that our next regional team has at least 50% female representation and that French and Arabic speaking NMOs assume their rightful place in the federation and regional activities. This will be done by facilitating capacity building activities focused on empowering the otherwise underrepresented among us. I believe inclusivity and equity are the foundational principles we should use as our springboard into the future I envision while serving as RD. My experience as the IFMSA, DA for Africa has given me insight into the dark cloud hangs over the future representation of African medical students within the federation and externally, the cloud threatens to wash away all the efforts that have been made by those before us who worked hard for our voices as future healthcare leaders to be heard locally, regionally and globally.
Africa’s exclusion goes against the obligations of IFMSA’s vision and the mandate of host countries when hosting international meetings. My experience in advocacy and external representation puts me in a place where I am ready to actively engage our global counterparts on how we can make it possible for our people to meaningfully participate in our federation. We also aim to mobilise and prepare our NMOs to bid and host high-level meetings because we happen to be one of the most accessible regions in the world. I have had the opportunity to serve as the Organising Chair for the 13th African Regional Meeting and as an advisor to recent Organising Committees so I have gained a clear understanding of what it will take to host successful international meetings in our region. This work has already begun and it is far from easy but we are ready to build on our experience and pursue these goals in an even more rigorous and organised fashion. We believe it is not all doom and gloom that lies ahead, there is a way for us to change the odds. Over the past year, I have been facilitating the inclusion of all Africans in regional and global discourse through financial trainings and advocating for us at international platforms. From now onwards; we will have to be more efficient as a region internally and more intentional in pursuing and maintaining our external representation. We can only do it together, so let us join our hands and start ploughing forward.
See you in Taipei.

PLAN OF ACTION AFRICA AFRICA AFRICA AFRICA WORKING GETTING BREAKING SPEAKING AND NEW BETTER AS A TEAM FROM THE GROUND BEING HEARD INSIDE OUT
Africa Working as a Team The crux of our work in the coming term is effectively pulling together in the same direction, unrelentingly. We need to be a team, a very good team. Our team will need a strategy, not only because this is great way to organise ourselves but also because we need to plan with others who share our vision, find a way to include everyone’s opinion and create a lasting bond among team members who are all members of the region.
ANNUAL WORKING PLAN The initial mandate of a Regional Team is to set up clear common goals that we can all believe in and strive together to achieve. These longitudinal goals will guide the construction of an: Annual Working Plan which will be shared to the whole region for input. Monthly updates will be sent to the region on the progress we will be making against our goals to allow for feedback, criticism and accountability of the regional team by everyone in the region. Calendar which will be in place by the end of the first month of work as a regional team. This calendar will include dates for important IFMSA events that will take place during the term, the important external meetings and internal meetings among the National Member Organisations (NMOs), International Teams and Officials.
AFRICA REGIONAL TEAM Regional Assistants are the very wheels that allow a region to move and it is important to set up a team that moves powerfully like well-oiled machine. The selection process must be transparent and cohesive in forming an Regional Team (RT) that values Africa, teamwork, proactivity and competence; Of high priority will be the adequate representation of females (at least 50% of the RT), inclusion of as high a number of French and Arabic speakers so as to cater for the language diversity in our region. We will aid the create internal capacity spaces for the RT to stay up to date with changes in the global health world, in African affairs and potential opportunities so that they can relevantly serve their national officers and NMO contact persons. It is very important that the regional team remains high functioning throughout its term so we will have a Mental Health Watch running throughout the term to help them prevent and deal with burnout.
4
Clear job descriptions, expectations, plans and feedback mechanisms for the regional team will be laid out and published to all NMOs at the beginning of their term. NMOs will have an open and confidential online channel through which they can provide feedback to Regional Assistants in real time. The Regional Team will meet internally at least once every month and each Regional Assistant will meet with NMO members at least twice (One RT-NMO buddy meeting and one meeting relevant to their portfolio) A culture of meticulous documentation of every meeting will be adhered to by the regional team. The regional team will collaborate to update Standard Operating Procedures, publish a handbook on specific roles of RT members and handover recommendations within 3 months after the next Regional Meeting.
General Assistant Standing Committee Regional Assistants
3 Development Assistants (Southern, East & Central, West Africa)
Capacity Building Regional Assistant
NMO
RT-NMO BUDDY SYSTEM Over the past year, together with the current Regional Director, we worked on establishing our pilot attempt at the RT-NMO Buddy System which is aimed at promoting communication between NMOs and their regional team, establish non-formal relationships through which NMOs can easily seek help and collaborate with the RT and other NMO. In the coming term we aim to continue this program and improve the structuring of the Buddy groups and their meetings for uniformity and accountability. During the handover period we will collect feedback from NMO Presidents on the current RTNMO Buddy System. Once we have a full Regional Team, a new RT-NMO Buddy System will be published; it will be refined by the feedback will received. Feedback of the system through a Google Form will be collected once in every quarter. A centralised tracking sheet will be kept throughout the term, showing major goals and outcomes of the buddies for institutional memory and handover to the next team.
Finance Assistant
COOPERATION WITH THE TEAM OF OFFICIALS Team of Officials’ (TO) work in this coming term will be focused on cementing the synergistic relationship between our internal global priorities and the external global goals such as the Sustainable Development Goals, this process means that there is a pertinent mandate to prepare medical students for the sustainable development agenda both locally and globally. This will be what I will do to facilitate this process together with the region: Represent Africa’s interests in the TO and strive to amplify them, while actively communicating to our members the internal discussions of the TO. Work together with the rest of the TO in IFMSA activities and actively seek their advice, counsel and involvement in our activities as a region. Actively discuss bureaucratic procedures that affect or hinder proper internal development of the region, its NMOs and our standing committee work. I have made myself available to attend all Team of Officials Meetings (TOM) in the coming term.
We will promote Transnational Projects among our NMOs through this system.
5
The Regional Team will comprise a General Assistant (working as the RT secretary and the assistant in charge of external representation), a Finances Assistant, 3 Development Assistants (One for Eastern and Central Africa, one for West Africa and one for Southern Africa), a Capacity Building Regional Assistant and Standing Committee Regional Assistants.
COOPERATION WITH THE LIAISON OFFICERS AND VICE FORMALISING OUR PRESIDENT OF EXTERNAL ALUMNI NETWORK AFFAIRS I aim to work closely with the Liaison Officers, due to their high level of expertise in the setting up of impactful external work; so that we can develop the following areas: A working guideline on how to engage various external partners with a vested interest in our region so as to boost standing committee work and internal NMO activities. To cooperate in the development of internal regional goals like active policy development. Representation of the region in external meetings like the WHO AFRO meeting and the UN High Level Political Forum on SDGs. Maintain an active problem solving matrix for barriers that members of the region experience when attempting to attend external meetings. To promote more health science student collaboration with organisations like IPSF and IADS I also plan to serve as a highly responsive and active channel of communication between the Liaison Officers and members of the region by publicising all external opportunities to our members.
During this term we finally started the process of formalising our Alumni structures. During the coming term we aim to strengthen our Alumni network and get them more involved in our work and more accessible to our members. I will work closely with the IFMSA President and the VPM to make our region’s alumni part of the database of the federation. Creating a local database of our Alumni and including their training qualifications in our Regional Trainer Pool database. We will organise with them to facilitate some sessions at Regional Meetings, General Assembly Sessions and SRTs. Through our monthly newsletter, we will keep them updated on regional work. Establish non-formal groups though which they can meet among themselves and network. We will discuss with them on the possibility of providing mentorship to our members.
6
Africa Getting Better From the Inside Out Development and growth as a region is only sustainable if we have strong internal structures as a foundation. Having worked for the past 4 years in backroom of NMOs in the region, I have been humbled by the realization that the only way we can get better as a region is to start by fixing ourselves internally.
REGIONAL MEETINGS AND GENERAL ASSEMBLIES The African Regional Meeting (ARM) is the single most important platform we have as a region to meet and tackle issues that are of importance to us and to equip the medical students of the region for their current and future work. I will closely follow up on the organisation of the ARM, using my knowledge as a former OC Chairperson and advisor to provide guidance in planning for successful ARMs filled with an atmosphere of love, excitement, achievement and direction. I will work with the Regional Team and NMO Presidents to identify areas of priority, set agendas that are relevant and beneficial to the NMOs and invite the best possible set of guests and TO members to help tackle various topics. I will work towards re-orienting our Pre-ARM workshops so that we address the most deficient areas in our region like finances, exchanges, external representation and disaster relief. Collaborate with the Vice President of Activities to obtain better ARM feedback and faster certification of attendees and new trainers to enable them to immediately use these new qualifications.
REGIONAL IOGs I will ensure that we prioritise recording of minutes and media of all sessions of the ARM so that we improve our documentation of ARM activities for future generations and explore the live streaming of theme sessions to all medical students in the region using my experience serving in the Task Force of Live Streaming and Online Voting. I will also explore the setting up of legacy projects for ARM hosts in order to ensure that NMOs who host our meetings are left stronger and more stable after hosting. We will also pursue more impactful presence at General Assemblies (GAs) by: Working with the Executive Board (EB) on offering support letters to help our members in their VISA applications Exploring improving our Travel Assistance Fund contributions so that we may subsidise more delegates to attend GAs Through a series of webinars and Presidents’ sessions build the capacity of our NMOs to host high-level meetings with the aim of having more GAs happening within the region.
7
Over the past year the regional team and I have been tirelessly working to standardise our regional internal operating guidelines which are far beneath that of other regions in both quality and quality. I am glad that the current TO has been working hard to make this dream come true and standardised IOGs are expected to be approved at the August Meeting. Within our first month in office our regional team will intensively analyse our new IOGs and if need be, put out a call of a Small Working Group for Regional IOGs. This SWG will work on proposed amendments to the IOGs including, but not limited to: a. Defining specific job descriptions of the regional team b. Adding detail to Organising Committee expectations for ARMs and SRT c. Defining the Plenary Procedures to be followed during the African Regional Meeting d. Defining Capacity Building Units and their regulations e. Defining Policy Making Procedures in the region f. Committing to IFMSA ethos in our region (Gender inclusivity, Non-discrimination, democracy and universal health coverage).
These proposed amendments will be discussed with NMO presidents and tabled for adoption at the 15th ARM in Malawi. I will also actively liaise with other Regional Directors to ensure that the federation has a set standard of IOGs that is under continual improvement. We will also engage, educate and follow up on our NMO presidents and OCs to ensure usage and knowledge of the IOGs.
CAPACITY BUILDING In my experience I have come to the conclusion that capacity buiding is the cornerstone upon which any serious NMO should develop itself on. The most efficient, impactful and long-standing NMOs globally have at least this in common: relentless, rigorous and organised capacity building systems. Recently, in a bid to streamline our efforts at developing regional capacity we adopted Capacity Building Units for NMOs; to add onto these efforts we will: Work with the Vice President of Capacity Building (VPCB) towards having more IFMSA certified Online Trainings for members in the region who are not able to attend IFMSA events Work with Standing Committee RAs to increase Sub-Regional Trainings in all areas.
I plan to, along with the Finance Assistant and NMOs, establish a fundraising strategy for the year which will be finalised at the ARM.
Activate our online platforms for use in online trainings and webinars. Create a regional trainer pool database including alumni for easy distribution in workshops and follow up of their activity.
We will look into the possibility of creating a generic Sponsorship Prospectus for regional events
REGIONAL FINANCIAL FRAMEWORK Over the past year I have been working in close contact with the region’s Finance Assistant, working towards orienting the region’s finances through this new role. Working in this field is of particular interest to me as an individual who has started and run a financially sustained NGO and have worked in NMO finances for a number of years now. Together with the Finance Assistant we have facilitated workshops on Fundraising and Presentation Skills (at the ARM in Ghana), Good Governance (at the March Meeting in Slovenia) and Bookkeeping and Financial Recording for NMO finance officers. This has given me a good perspective on what we have to do for the region to improve the state of our finances. We will follow IFMSA’s fundraising framework and all related core policies; I will also provide a platform for NMOs to discuss the regional context of this framework.
8
We will do an extensive mapping of potential sponsors we can approach in line with IFMSA regulations Support NMOs by providing them news on potential grants for their projects and assistance in their grant applications
Solidarity Fund
Through the Finance Assistant we will activate the discussion on the establishment of a regional solidarity fund as per our regional strategy with the aim of kick-starting it after the March Meeting.
TAF
I will actively work with NMOs to look into activating TAF for our regional meetings to increase participation from members who may not have enough resources to participate.
Financial Capacity Building Seminars
Through the Finances Assistant, we will hold monthly Online Meetings aimed at equipping NMO Finance Officers for their local work and also sensitising them on IFMSA’s finance structures and regulations.
NMO MEMBERSHIP, RECRUITMENT AND REACTIVATION We have 21 NMOs in Africa. Some are thriving but others are struggling with diverse challenges with the major challenge being that of financial instability. I will, along with 3 Development Assistants (DAs), work with newly admitted NMOs on an upgrading strategy to ensure that they become full members within their 3 year limit so that we maintain their membership. I will, along with the Finances Assistant (FA), contact NMOs with debts with the aim of helping them construct payment plans that will allow them to settle their debts before suspension. We will follow up suspended NMOs and help them initiate discussions for their reinstatement.
We will work to improve that work that we perform in the Region by identifying and creating opportunities for more medical student member states. I will work with the DAs to recruit and involve more countries in the Federation. We will assist them in the application process, rigorously appraising their documents to prevent rejection and will help them in their first steps when they are accepted. I am currently have established communication with Mauritius, Mozambique and Botswana which are planning to join IFMSA. We are also considering Somaliland, countries with previously rejected applications and others.
We will publicise cancellation and payment deadlines for meetings to assist NMOs in preventing debt accumulation and we will ensure that NMOs hosting international events are closely followed up to assist them on financial issues.

AFRICA BREAKING NEW GROUND! There is a lot we are doing right as a region but we are simply not there yet. There is a need for us to strengthen the weakest aspects of our region using innovative means to make our region and our work more cohesive, active, impactful and enjoyable.
REGIONAL EMPOWERMENT Active reception of regional needs into the regional working plan, guaranteeing the catering of NMO’s needs accurately while developing an original strategy to involve NMOs directly in the seeking of their solutions. Regional empowerment to us will mean active participation and collective building with all members. Utilise Regional Communication channels and make them more interactive, accessible and understandable by making translations, cultural notes and tailored regional visual aids in line with our mascot, slogan and federation corporate identity (WhatsApp groups, Facebook groups, email groups and Telegram groups) Working with the Vice President of Public Relations and Communication (VPPRC) development of our regional mascot and slogan to create affordable regional merchandise (T-Shirts and stickers) in line with IFMSA Corporate Identity so that the region may fundraise and present a united and uniform front at GAs and regional meetings. Perform a Regional Primary Needs Assessment together with the Regional Team so as to develop advocacy and policy strategies.
Stimulate Interregional Collaborations with the support of regional assistants and other regional directors so as to strengthen our internal work as a region and within our NMOs Prioritise the production, marketing and participation in regional publications like Auscultate Magazine and a monthly Regional Team Update Newsletter. Communicate and promote pertinent international opportunities as guided by the Regional Primary Needs Assessment.
EXTERNAL REPRESENTATION Our representation in spaces that our voices should be heard has been very low over the past few years, it is pivotal for us to jumpstart our external representation to ensure that exciting opportunities are availed to our NMOs to understand the region’s healthcare systems, policies and medical education and to meaningfully participate in policy making locally and globally. Regional Internships As a Region, we know it is difficult for us to attend or apply for the internship opportunities that the Federation offer, since most of them are outside the continent. That is
10
why I want to work hard in this field in order to open more opportunities for our members in Africa. I plan to look for these internships by engaging institutions such as AU, UNICEF, WHO AFRO among others. We have to work on re-establishing our relationship with the WHO AFRO and the SDG Centre and plan to engage them more actively. Stakeholder mapping and Regional MoUs To have a meaningful participation in external representation we need to identify partners that could collaborate with us at the regional and national levels alike. These external organizations should be focus on health and education and share the IFMSA vision and our priorities as a region, but also we can take a look outside the medical field in order to promote multidisciplinary collaboration and help the development of policies and positions from different perspectives. A map of these organisations and initial contact with them will be made before the regional meeting, they will be discussed in the Presidents’ Sessions at the regional meeting and those that would have been agreed on will be approached and negotiated with for terms of reference for our relationship with them pending the signing of memoranda of understanding at the March Meeting in Rwanda.
EXCHANGES, EXCHANGES, EXCHANGES! Increasing NMO involvement in Policy Documents For NMOs interested in increasing their involvement in Policy Documents I will work with the LOs and DAs to promote opportunities for development of policy-making skills. We will run a series of sessions/webinars/trainings sessions the importance of their involvement in Policy Documents. It is important for our region to be clear on what it stands for and align our work to SDGs, the federation as a whole and our regional partners. A SWG on Policy Making and External Representation will, under the supervision of myself and the General Assistant, will coordinate these issues and development of Policy Documents from within our region that can even be translated to the rest of the IFMSA family worldwide.
SCORE and SCOPE happen to be some our most inactive standing committees in the region yet they present the greatest academic, professional and financial opportunities for our NMOs. Together with the Regional Assistants and their International Teams we will work hard to ensure that all our members are at least active in one of these two standing committees. I will follow up on the process of activating these standing committees in the willing NMOs. I will liaise with successful NMOs in other regions to assist our NMOs in forming incentivised and financially sustainable exchanges. We will prioritise having training workshops in Exchanges (like TNET) in our Pre-Regional Meeting and aggressively market other training opportunities in these areas.
11
AFRICA SPEAKING AND BEING HEARD Africa is a huge continent, full of culture and capacity but our voice in global health and in the federation has been very toned down. We have sometimes been reduced to mere footnotes; it is high time we organise ourselves and sharpen our advocacy and create room for ourselves in every relevant discussion.
ROBUST COMMUNICATION CHANNELS
SAFE DISCUSSION SPACES
Reports are a transparent communication tool that we can use to communicate with all members who do not easily have contact with the Regional Team. The reports will be done through a monthly newsletter from the regional team that will be sent to all members of our NMOs and external partners, this will be aimed at sensitising the region on IFMSA work and also creating a sense of accountability among the regional team to the people we serve. The reports will be accompanied by short, fun video clips tailored to arouse interest in the newsletter. Regional Team monthly meeting minutes will also be made available to NMO presidents in every quarter.
I believe that motivation and confidence to speak comes from having a sense of belonging, members should feel they belong to a federation and a region that is truly behind them, willing to promote and protect their ideas. An atmosphere of love, excitement, achievement and direction should be cultivated where no idea is too big or too small to be accomplished. Where we lack in capacity to implement ideas, we will look for capacity or take strategic steps to build it.
Social Media; we will consult with NMOs and OCs to organise how we can centralise Regional Meeting social media pages and allow OCs to inherit them, grow their followership cumulatively, make these pages more effective communication platforms for the region and also preserve institutional memory more effectively.
Developing capacity in public relations and communication we will push for workshops such as ‘sPRead’ (a Public Relations workshop) at our regional meetings and SRTs so that our members can take part in federation publications and serve in this under-capacitated area in our federation and find creative ways of uplifting our voices
Incentivise spaces of expression and critical thinking like submission of articles to Auscultate, MSI and European Sting and attendance of meetings and fora where our work can be showcased like ICASA, WHO AFRO Meeting and WHSS.
Together with Standing Committee RAs work on establishing frequent online lectures and discussion forums on interesting medical education, SRHR, rights and peace, public health and exchanges topics. Publication of manuals and booklets based on these lectures will be a priority.
12
SOCIAL INCLUSION It is difficult to effectively communicate and be heard if we do not actively find a way to use our diversity as a region to our advantage. I will take decisive steps to make the Africa region a plural and democratic space. We need to stop and focus on the minorities in our region and find ways to uplift them. We will pursue ideological webinars, debates and sessions in our meetings where we tackle issues of gender, language use, race, disability and culture; so that we sensitise our region on these issues, find ways to unite our people and advocate for social inclusion of our members and beyond our federation. We will include discussions on representation in IFMSA in our regional meetings, in regional and plenary sessions at the GA We will establish and maintain relations with social minority NGOs with consultation with our Liaison Officers and Standing Committee RAs.

“Our revolution is not a public-speaking tournament. Our revolution is not a battle of fine phrases. Our revolution is not simply for spouting slogans that are no more than signals used by manipulators trying to use them as catchwords, as codewords, as a foil for their own display. Our revolution is, and should continue to be, the collective effort of revolutionaries to transform reality, to improve the concrete situation of the masses of our nation.- Thomas Sankara
