Self-care

Some people view self-care as a form of selfindulgence that they either don't have time for or don't believe is necessary. But that might be the case simply because they are unaware of its true meaning. Weekly massages or treating yourself to anything you want are not examples of self-care. Being aware of what your body and mind need to function at their best is the foundation of self-care and self-help. The cues your body is giving you should not be disregarded.

Self-care is the practice of protecting your own well-being and happiness, particularly during times of stress. It’s about taking action to balance physical and emotional health by knowing your

limits and not going over them. It’s also about identifying the things that bring you joy and help you to decompress. And the benefits of self-care range from improving well-being and decreasing morbidity and mortality to reducing healthcare costs. Acts of self-care include basic necessities such as eating well, exercising, getting enough sleep, and relaxation. But really, self-care can be anything that feeds your soul and takes the weight of the world off your shoulders—even for a little while.

Practice selfcare

Make time for sleep.

Although the National Sleep Foundation recommends between seven and nine hours, this isn't the same for everyone.

Healthy eating.

There is a direct link between food and mood. In fact, health psychology has a whole segment devoted to nutrition. The best foods for enhancing mood include ginger, turmeric, fish, chia, flax, berries, and others.

Meditate. A good way to manage anxiety is to practise meditation. And help stress reduction. Meditation is a wonderful technique to focus within and acknowledge all of your feelings and ideas.

Enjoy the outdoors. Visits to forests, rural areas, and other green spaces have been shown to increase thinking abilities and lower stress. Take a deep breath of fresh air and get outside. Going to a nearby park, stadium or even your own backyard can have a major impact on your mood. Take a walk, plan a picnic and get some Vitamin D.

Plan time for your family and friends.

Close relationships have many advantages, including the ability to inspire, educate, and progress. Additionally, they offer significant advantages for mental health. But actuality, loneliness, and lack of close friends are risk factors for anxiety and depression.

Learn more about yourself. Taking care of yourself includes taking care of the things that are valuable to you. It's simple to lose track of what is actually valuable to us when we are obsessed with what other people are doing or what we believe we need to do.

Take a break From social media.

Instagram scrolling may seem like a pleasant habit, but it has the same negative effects on your health as eating a large bag of chips: it's addictive, makes you feel guilty, and it may even make you feel a little unwell.

Self-kindness Self-kindness means treating yourself with the same care, sympathy, and encouragement as one would a trustworthy friend in need. It's not a determination of value; rather, it's more of an emotional attitude toward yourself. Therefore, even when you don't feel fantastic about yourself, you are welcoming and gentle instead of judgmental. In addition to realizing that life can be challenging, self-compassion involves a sense of connectivity. A decline in depression, more happiness, more life satisfaction, and improved physical health are some long-term benefits of self-compassion on daily living.

Self soothing. Self-soothing is a form of behaviour performed as a calming method to help you deal with stress, much like a baby sucking his thumb for comfort. It's like a small act of self-comfort you can perform to help relax your body and mind. Selfsoothing techniques will depend on the individual and are frequently based on the feelings. Maybe it's a happy melody, a warm blanket, or even a cup of calming tea.

Learn more about yourself. Self-love involves respecting oneself as a person, accepting oneself without reservation, and placing a high value on one's own health by taking care of it physically, mentally, and spiritually. Self- love is a permanent state of being, in way of comparison to selfcompassion, which is something you practice at any given time. It's a honest and respectful expression of praise for yourself.

Self-awareness There are two parts to self-awareness: an internal selfawareness and an external self-awareness. Checking our inner world—how we perceive our emotions, behaviours, imperfections, and actions—is internal self-awareness. Understanding our own attitudes of ourselves from the outside, or our external selfawareness, is important. It basically serves as a measuring stick by which we assess and judge ourselves, our actions, and ourselves in relation to our morals and standards. Better decision-making, greater success, and increased self-confidence are just a few advantages of self-awareness.
