Sunrise to Sunset Transforming your look from romantic to party-ready. BY WHITNEY REYNOLDS + PHOTOS BY ATTILIO D’AGOSTINO
Nailing the perfect look can be a daunting task. Deciding between soft and smoky, clean and classic, or edgy and modern is enough to give any woman major wedding day anxiety. On the biggest day of your life, there is no reason 4
why any bride—from Glamazon to Bohemian beauty— should have to choose just one. Using a single, versatile palette, it’s easy to go from a soft, simple ceremony look, to a sultry reception stunner in 15 minutes or less.

Day
Using a soft shadow brush and the Maya Mia palette from Anastasia Beverly Hills, blend the color Glisten from lash line to the eye crease, making sure to take a little extra shadow into the crease to deepen the color and give the eye depth. The glimmer in this shadow is perfect for that soft, glowing bridal look without being too sparkly. Then use colors Vanilla or Nude under the brow arch and in the inner corners to open up the eyes and really make them pop. A thin line of brown pencil will add just enough depth to fill out the lash line, while maintaining a simple, elegant appearance.
Night
Taking this look up a notch for the reception is simple and only takes a couple of steps. Using a darker color, like Sienna, in the outer corner, eye crease and under the lower lashes will add a warm smoky depth to this look,
and plays perfectly well alongside the original shadow color, Glisten. The key to an amazing smoky eye is to start slow and blend, blend, blend. Using that same brown liner, fill in the lower lashes, as well as the outer corner of the eye to give a darker, more sultry appearance. Keeping the liner close to the lash line and focused on the outer corners will give the eyes a larger cat-like effect without the use of the typical liquid winged liner. Add an extra coat of (waterproof) mascara, like Cover Girl Lash Blast, on both top and bottom, and you’re ready to dance the night away. Line the lips with a pro-long wear pencil, like Half-Red, and top it off with Red Necessity lipstick, both available at Mac. A nude lip, such as Faux, is also an option that would pair well for a more subdued look. One day, two looks and a lifetime of love to go. ALIVE WEDDING // ISSUE 2

Fresh Picks Incorporate inexpensive edibles for a twist on traditional decor. BY KELSEY WAANANEN + PHOTOS BY JENNIFER SILVERBERG + STYLED BY AMANDA DAMPF
Whether you’re trying to truly integrate your love of food into all aspects of your life, or want to make your day stand out this wedding season, go natural. Bringing in seasonal selections inspired by farmers market produce is a great way to literally freshen up your tablescapes.
Gifts
As foodies, we always consider food the perfect gift—plus a food favor at your table could

potentially hold a guest off from a mean case of the hangries before dinner service starts. We offered guests a jar of savory habanero jelly and crackers pulled together with a bit of twine. Of course, if little ones will be at the table, feel free to skip the serrano pepper accent on the bag, and offer a jelly in a more kid-friendly flavor. To keep it seasonal, you could opt for a jar of raspberry or plum preserves.

Florals
The trick to incorporating produce into your floral centerpiece, or even into your bouquet, is to go for a monochromatic color scheme. For this fiery vase, we arranged orange spray roses, garden roses, mink protea, pincushion protea, Peruvian lillies and calla lilies as a base. With skewers, we added pops of color with seasonal sweet red peppers, organic radishes and key limes. Especially here, subtlety is key and will surprise guests each time they look through the display.
Decor
In all aspects of decorating, you’ll want to choose the most hardy produce available, and summer offers you a wealth of options. For table elements, we chose tomatillos (shown above), limes and radishes for our tablescape. However, we could have just as easily used an ear of corn as our tea-light holder, slightly underripened funky heirloom tomatoes as the table cardholder and figs in our vase. For a list of seasonal summer produce and more tips on featuring food on your big day, head to ALIVEmag.com.

Red Hot Romance You and your spouse will be eager to show off your romantic sides with a color palette that expands the traditional take on ravishing red. With hues that range from a barely-there purple to a deep burgundy, choosing shades that go beyond the norm is a great way to pack a punch in the romance department. Impress guests with a pale palette that focuses on the lighter pastels with pops of oxblood; go bold with red and pink, or keep things dark and sexy by showcasing a monotone palette of opaque shades.

Heavy Metal Lover A palette that highlights natural elements with pops of gold and bronze is a sure bet for those couples who want to show off more of an industrial styling concept. Metallized hues pair perfectly with a soft pop of color from sage green to chartreuse, while a more traditional take pairs wooden elements with pale blues and greys. Fill the space with furniture and decor that showcases clean lines. Utilize minimal floral arrangements filled with greenery and keep the attention in the details.

Modern Matrimony A fresh take on tradition includes an icy color palette that combines pearl, grey and white with sunset shades for an unexpected pop. Keep the overall vibe light and romantic by focusing the colors in the details: Craft floral arrangements that showcase pretty pastels, replace basic black and white footwear options with something a bit more colorful and try an accent color or subtle nail art for your wedding day mani.

Through the power of social media, Christina Savel first laid eyes on Michael Link in November of 2010. A month later, and with the help of sorority sister (and now sisterin-law) Lindsay, the two shared an instant connection when they finally met at the Mizzou vs. Illinois Braggin’ Rights basketball game in St. Louis—which ended in a victory for Mizzou and the new couple. After almost four years of dating, the couple set their sights on forever. In the heat of summer— Christina’s favorite season—the two relaxed by the pool, and ended their day with a leisurely hike out at Columbia’s Rock Bridge Memorial State Park. Under the iconic natural rock bridge, Michael got down on one knee and changed their lives. Back at home, Michael had one more surprise: His and Christina’s mothers greeted them with congratulations, love and bubbly. Reception Venue: Blue Venado Beach Club, Playa del Carmen. Cheers to Love Spice up your reception with a signature cocktail. BY MATT SORRELL PHOTOS BY JENNIFER SILVERBERG + STYLED BY AMANDA DAMPF
Brides and grooms (not to mention their parents) put in endless amounts of time dialing in all of the details for their special day. Many months—and even more dollars—are spent tweaking everything from the flowers to the food to the DJ’s playlist, not to mention the all-important issue of the perfect dresses for the bride and her coterie. But oftentimes, while the food menu has been cussed and discussed ad infinitum and the cake has been obsessively fretted over, having a special drink to commemorate the nuptials doesn’t come up in the conversation.

That’s a shame, because having a signature cocktail for the big day is a fun way to celebrate the occasion and make it even more memorable, and it doesn’t take a herculean effort to pull it off. I recommend this simple solution for a unique libation that won’t break the bank. It’s easy to put together, so no matter who’s at the helm of the bar (we all have that one friend who bartended in college and wants to help out, right?), it’s going to come out right. The cocktail takes some of the elements of the classic Champagne cocktail (champagne, sugar, bitters) and ups the spiciness quotient with the addition of local favorite The Big O ginger liqueur.
The Honeymooner 2 oz The Big O ginger liqueur 1 heavy dash Angostura bitters brut sparkling wine lemon twist Pour The Big O into a glass. Add bitters. Top with sparkling wine. Stir very briefly and oh-so gently to incorporate and avoid breaking up the bubbles. Twist the lemon peel over the surface of the drink and then drop it in.
