INTRODUCTION
KASHMIR WORLD FOUNDATION Kashmir World Foundation (KwF) is a nonprofit organization, based in Great Falls Virginia, founded by Princess Aliyah Pandolfi in 2008. KwF projects integrate art as a means of innovation, science as a benchmark for invention, and technology as the result of creative solutions. Through global collaboration our projects improve the lives of humans and wildlife worldwide. KASHMIR ROBOTICS
Kashmir Robotics is the science, technology, and wildlife security division of Kashmir World Foundation who acquired the Technology Assisted Counter Poaching (TACP) network in 2010 to ensure that promising ideas are supported with the most advanced science and engineering skills and access to state of the art technologies. TECHNOLOGY ASSISTED COUNTER POACHING NET WORK
TACP–network was founded in 1991 to provide technical guidance to organizations around the world protecting endangered species and other wildlife. The network includes scientists and engineers with experience in countering poaching and trafficking of wildlife through application of sensors, communications, and computational technologies; and integrated robotics systems including unmanned aircraft and ground systems. WILDLIFE CONSERVATION UAV CHALLENGE
In response to President Obama’s Executive Order on Combating Wildlife Trafficking, Princess Aliyah Pandolfi launched the worldwide Wildlife Conservation unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) Challenge (wcUAVc) to foster innovation and invention in the design, fabrication, and utilization of unmanned aircraft to assist with counter poaching and illicit wildlife trafficking. In just a few months with 140 teams in 30 countries the wcUAVc become the world’s largest and most distributed aircraft research effort. It calls on students, hobbyists, and academics to cooperate in a design, build, fly challenge that emphasizes the integration of sensors, embedded systems, and communications in a robust and high endurance aircraft for counter poaching of endangered species.
DAVINCI CHALLENGE: BUILD A DRONE WORKSHOP
DaVinci Challenge: Build a Drone Workshop was created to encourage US students of all ages to participate in an innovative and hands-on workshop to learn the basics of drone design, fabrication, robotic systems integration, 3D printing, and piloted and autonomous flying techniques.

PROJECT SUMMARY Opportunities are being created through an integration of computer science and aeronautical engineering – drones that have unique sensing capability, on-board processing, long endurance, and global communications enable a wide range of conservation and humanitarian missions. Driven by personal electronics industry, rapid advances are being achieved in compact, low power sensors, processors, and energy harvesting. Integration of these technologies into fully robotic aircraft creates a degree of autonomy barely dreamed of a few years back. According to the Association of Unmanned Vehicle Systems International’s (AUVSI), “The Economic Impact of Unmanned Aircraft Systems Integration in the United States report shows the economic benefit of UAS integration. AUVSI’s findings show that in the first three years of integration more than 70,000 jobs will be created in the United States with an economic impact of more than $13.6 billion. This benefit will grow through 2025 when we foresee more than 100,000 jobs created and economic impact of $82 billion.” (http://www.auvsi.org/econreport) Kashmir World Foundation (KwF) believes it is vital for our country’s economic development and national defense to foster interest among our students in autonomous aircraft technologies and systems. Our approach is to challenge students with a mission focus, enable them with education and a specially prepared robotic aircraft kit, and provide a mix of online and personal resources in a collaborative atmosphere. As our world evolves, our means of educating must evolve to actively engage students in hands-on learning workshops where critical thinking skills are developed. Through technical troubleshooting exercises, students develop skills needed to assess the problem and take decisive action to mitigate the situation.

DAVINCI CHALLENGE: BUILD A DRONE WORKSHOP DaVinci Challenge: Build a Drone Workshop helps students see robotic aircraft from a broader perspective. More specifically, the workshop trains students in the design, fabrication, customization, and operation of small robotic aircraft. It integrates all aspects of STEAM into a comprehensive program that is mission focused. Students will learn about 3D printing, integration of robotic systems, and flying techniques as they build a quadcopter or hexacopter in an actively engaging handson and innovative workshop. An essential part of workshop requires students document their build and lectures through a written build log detailing what they observed, sketching the components, and documenting technical issues and solutions. Each team also researches a flying creature to learn about aerodynamics. Their presentation includes details their flying creature’s location, weight, wing span, speed, and unique flying capabilities. Guests speaks from multiple industries have been invited to help give students first hand perspective of real world use of unmanned aerial systems. All students who complete the Build a Drone Workshop receive a Drone Operator Certificate and become DaVinci Scholars with access to a large and growing community of drone design and coding experts collaborating on challenging applications. WORKSHOP PROGRAM DETAILS We can customize the program to accommodate scheduling, teacher or student only workshops. Most often we run the workshop one day a week over four weeks, giving participates time to prepare for sessions and complete follow up assignments. We could also run the workshop as a five-day immersion with several hours of instruction each day followed by individual and collaborative learning. We prefer that student teams work together on an aircraft. This ensures that each team member learns piloting, ground control, and safety operations. Maximum of four team members per team. Following is a typical workshop schedule. TENTATIVE SCHEDULE Time
