The Architectural Foundation of San Francisco is a nonprofit educational organization that involves San Francisco elementary and secondary students in a mentored appreciation of architecture, engineering, construction and the design process. As a member of their summer design program I was able to work alongside summer design instructor Fred Werner along with other students to create a proposal for a youth health and fitness center using Revit. Site analysis was conducted prior to the deisgn process, providing a full proposal at the end of the summer design intensive.

MZZK Architects is a bay area minority owned architecture firm for which I was offered an intern position at. Through this opportunity I was able to shadow Tony Jackson, founder and CEO, with permit securing at the SF building department, client consulting, and revit modeling.

The Mount Wilson Observatory was a proposal for a place of rest for hikers and scientists alike in the souther californian mountain range. This proposal included research spaces as well as private sleeping quarters for hikers and scientists. The programmatic spaces were divided into separate categories to organize the spaces within the building. The structure of the building is extracted as an exoskeleton of the form, allowing the spaces within the mold and form to the needs of the space it serves. The roofing structure connects these spaces by sloping, rotating, and elevating differently to create different compressed and expressed spaces within the observatory.

MOUNT WILSON OBSERVATORY EXTERIOR RENDER
The site for this project is on a steep slope, with requirements dictating a limited amount of square footage to touch the site, allowing the natural ecosystems to thrive around the observatory. This project presents itself as a cantilever, with program pieces that jut out of the exoskeleton in accordacne with views off of and around the site.

pus for this project. The tower would occupy the existing footprint of the CLA tower and surrounding buildings and would act as the new centerpiece and landmark at Cal Poly Pomona. This proposal for a new tower and plinth for the CLA tower at Cal Poly Pomona gew out of a two dimensional exploration of curved and orthogonal lines. Editing these curves togetehr produced a plinth and tower project that exhibits angular traits that are also implemental and connected to the tower itself.

THE 700-SQUARE-FOOT ENOUGH HOUSE, DESIGNED BY HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA–BASED MACKAY-LYONS SWEETAPPLE ARCHITECTS, SITS WITHIN A UNIQUE COMPLEX OF STRUCTURES, CALLED SHOBAC, ON THE ATLANTIC COAST OF THE CANADIAN PROVINCE. IT’S PART OF A FASCINATING DIALOGUE BETWEEN TRADITIONAL AND MODERN ARCHITECTURAL FORMS ON BRIAN MACKAY-LYONS’ GHOST ARCHITECTURAL LABORATORY ENCAMPMENTS. ENOUGH HOUSE IS THE 10TH PERMANENT STRUCTURE ADDED TO THE ENSEMBLE AND ITS SITE ON THE ENTRY ROAD GIVES IT THE PROMINENCE OF A GATEHOUSE. THIS PROJECT SURROUNDED THE CONCEPT OF BUILT CONSTRUCTIONS AND ASSEMBLIES. THROUGH THIS CASE STUDY WALL SECTIONS AND DETAILS WERE STUDEIED THROUGH REVIT.
