STORY
This portfolio presents my works during past three months which was done as an individual task to create a coherent portfolio for H&M print designer placement. After my last internship that ended in September, I started developing three different print collections that best present my handwriting and skills as a fashion print designer. During the design process, the focus has been on creating families consisting of highlight, commercial and basic prints in order to result in balanced collections. The themes were chosen upon my favourite topics based on prior researches between trend forecasting resources. The first ‘Icelandic Psychedelic’ is inspired by a growing taste for synthetic and abstracted landscapes. Stripy patterns of this collection with hypecolor of turquoise blue are adding a sense of calmness and being mesmerised by the exotic natural sceneries. Second collection ‘Flow’ is inspired by a hype in making lively patterns. A happy-go-lucky theme in many highend brands and a tendency that advertises be true and positive with who you are and let it go all around. Iridescent butterflies are making a colorful scenery which is happy and light. The third collection, Camellia Japonica comes from a tendency to revive cultural heritages in textiles. Realistic florals which were used to be comon on coming again as all-over patterns., Dark florals drawn precisely and handmade pieces in this collection are a representation of a more humanly-touched and back-to-basics approach in fashion textiles.
ICELAND PSYCHEDELIC Print Design Collection for Men
Taking inspiration from power of nature in glaciers and lava, the Icelandic Psychedelic collection is a representation of synthetic-looking pure landscapes of Iceland that remindes of psychedelic graphics.
Placement Print
This collection is designed for brave hearts who are ready to escape to the most un-touched places in north to find something calm and gentle, but still very strong and mesmerizing. the Icelandic Psychedelic print collection is mainly formed by touches of paint roller and thick layers of over-layed acrylic colors in order to create textured color-blocked areas.
Turquoise blue is playing a very highlighted roll in this print family, along with black, white and dark grey. A jacquard as highlight print with muhaire weft(partially loose) is texturizing and giving a more richness to the collection along with a basic two-colored knit.
Basic print on the left side, and the commercial print on the right.
FLOW
Print Design Collection for Women 2016
The Flow collection is made for confident women in who have passed their twenthies, and having settled with a balanced and active lifestyle. She wears chic and diciplined, but still joyful and street-style in their everyday life. Flow is a whimsical print collection with a taste for exotic sceneries. Fly of butterfly wings in a sky embellished with clouds is the essence of this family.
The highlight print of the collection (on the right side) is digitally done on a thick cotton satin, which gives it a more formal-chic appearance. A knit with shades of dusty-pink with slightly raised textured parts is accompanying the highlight print.
The first pattern on the left is done in a way to give a vague visual representation of butterflies. This print could be recognized as the commercial print of the collection alonge with a two-coloured woven jacquard. A more basic print with wavy-cloudy pattern is bringing more calmness and space to the collection.
Highlight print on the left side and basic print on the right side.
CAMELLIA JAPONICA
Print Design Collection for Women 2016
Inspired by naturalist and scientific illustrations, this print collection represents a more freely hand-drawn visuals of this type of paintings. One book called ‘Flora: An Illustrated History of the Garden Flower’ was chosen as image source for the prints. This collection is designed to fulfill interests of those who like to wear a more bohemian-like style on casual basis. There is a taste of folklore feeling in the collection because of dark florals, hand-woven piece and stripy jacquard. The collection is named after the most poped out flower pattern in the highlight print which is called Camellia Japonica.
Although the highlight print is busy, but printed on cotton gauze, it gives a very lightweight and airy feeling for everyday casual wears. Highlight color of neutral purple is used with black, white and dark grey for the color palette.
The right picture shows a hand-woven fluffy fabric on a simple shaft loom which gives the collection a rich textural feel. Combined with gauze, it makes a great combination of light-weighted, but still warm for fall/winter collections. A striped jacquard, and a small scale print are designed to match as more basic prints with the two other prints.
