A.The podium

serves as the base of the building, located at the begging and the end of the building, serves as communal space, with plenty of facilities such as cafeteria, auditorium, library. These facilities act as a foundation for the transient element (capsule units) to populate around and above them.

this podium complements the growth of the capsules so the place

plug-in services Run from the base ment up to the Third Level.

A. taircase Structure details

The perforated metal stairs are supported by the steel columns and beams framework solidly. similar to the precast floor slabs also rises above the similar structure frame work

The columns and beams frame work run up from the 1st floor to the third floor firmly to ensure that the weight transferred from the plugged-in units and the rooftop can transfer can trans fer downwards.

After the columns and beams are assembed, a layer of concrete where cast over the framework to provide an extra later of reinforecment

B. Capsule Structure Details

01 02 03

As the Facuilty starts to Grow over time, more capsules are plus into the strcuture core. As the future is unforeseeable, these capsules are designed for practicality and convenience to accodate more classroom or offices when necessary.

Each capsule is tied to the concrete core with 6 high tension bolts: 3 each on the upper and lower sides

These capsules are measured 10 m x 5 m x 4.5 m with light weight steel frames as the foun dation framework before multi ple layers are layered.

A.The Units

all units have a rectangular window with a wall to window ratio that is imbalanced because this is the only opening because this is the only opening where the inside can connect to the outside, because of that, the larger the area window psychologically makes that cram stuffy and capsule unit wider and bigger as views from the outside are brought in to maximize the space. Other than that, this opening is also important for air ventilation and bringing in natural lighting.

From the student’s point of view, although the overall unit is constrict ed, however the large long window alongside the desks is in a spot where view the faculty surroundings and court.

on the contrary, even though the unit has the limitation of space, I tried to create the class-alike atmosphere inside a smaller space so no fear of claustrophobic is experienced.

B. common spaces

unlike the capsule units the com munual space has a ribbon of curtain wall windows which extensively bring the outside views into the communal spaces.

More social interaction with the public is available in this area thus the connection and relationship are more visble compare to the capsules

Interlocking

A.Capsule Unit

These capsules were fabricated and assembled by railroad vhicles and vessal manfacturers.after being transported to the building site, they will be hoisted by a crane and fastend to the concrete shafts start ing from the botom up. each capsule is installed inde pendently and cantilevered off the structure .

the life span of these capsules is determined mechanically ( the units cincitions) and these is only one type of units available to be placed in facuilty with diifrent interir settings

B. Arrangement of capsule units

A certain pattern of how the units is stacked up is created based on the void and mass, because the class room layout highlights having a window on the longer side and the administration rooms to be separat ed into two offices which also need the windows to be placed on the longer side.

Also a manipulation in arrangement due to the direction of the door and its relation to the common area is applied.

The interior of the capsules is designed using an industrial technol ogy, various installation were inter grated into the capsule units to built into an extremely compact space

Installations and Furnature

Built-in

02 Built in table adjacent to the wall

03 Appliacnes and cabinets for storage which include

Smart board

these appliances built in aim to provide the basic space and retrpfit ting to guarantee the individual free dom of a modern teaching lifestyle, once these default retrofitting is installed the available spaces had shrunk more which resull in the merging of private and public spaces.

This design proposal emphasis on compactibility, Multipurpose and functional, where everything is is within reach as much as possiable.

The smart & sustainable building

The ‘performative’ elements in building are found in three of the façades, which are made of the eco-e cient material ethylene tetra uoroethylene (ETFE) cladding. The feature wall is the south-east in the entrance area, which will absorb six hours of sunlight a day. The ETFE cladding surface appears as a Fluted mosaic, a design that is said to depict the merging of atoms or elements to make meaningful information, while also representing the process of digital construction.

Brutalist Architecture

To emphasis on the capsule using dwelling pattern lines around it, using poured brick block to be more environmental friendly other than concrete incorporating local materials (brick) and large geometrical façade extractions as an homage to the architecture used in the university of Benghazi campus blending modern capsule architecture and tradition al straight lines

Capsule Architecture

Modular & Functionalism

Since Modular architecture is based on the design and use of systems composed of separate repetitive elements, which are similar in size, shape ,the whole building is created om a moulder of 1.25 to be adapt ed with the size of capsules ( 5 meters by 10 meters)
