SKIVE NEW ART MUSEUM DENMARK - MASTER PROJECT SPRING 2008

SNYK is a new art museum in connection to the existing museum. The museum is a bridge locally connecting the museum park to the city park and overall connecting the four elements in Skive; the city, the harbor, the river and the forest. The organic form of the building is shaped by the landscape and connects the interior to the exterior and the art to the city. The museum is a movement through the landscape, a movement in a floating space and the movement and relation to the exhibited art.

Irregular Shape

Concrete Core

Welded Frame

The irregular shape is used to control the movement of the tower. In slender towers the core is too flexible to control deflections and the perimeter need to be utilized. This is done by a welded frame structure.

The views of the city are framed in a spiral move upwards, so you at the top looks back over Manhattan

Mass Damper

Aerodynamic Shape

Irregular Shape

Tower movement can happen if a structure starts to vibrate at the same frequency as for example the wind. This is known as standing waves. this problem can be solved by using a mass damper at the top of the building or it can be solved by using an aerodynamic shape or an irregular shape.

Core Too Slender

Mobilize Perimeter

Moment Frame

Braced Frame

Outrigger

Slender towers always present a structural challenge. The building core is too flexible to control deflections, and the perimeter must be utilized. Typical systems to achieve this are Perimeter Moment Frames, External Braced Frames and Outriggers

AN ARTHOUSE WHERE ART IS CREATED 5. SEM. PROJECT

This project takes its starting point in the area Birk outside the city Herning (DK). Herning Art museum wanted to expand but into more than just an art museum. The proposal suggests an art museum where art is created. Within the house a series of workshops including wood-, metal-, paint and media workshops are placed. The artists should also have workshops with different researchers from Universities, so accommodation for the artists and researhers for a shorter period of time should be placed in the house. Furthermore the house should contain facilities for a creative music environment and a concert hall for chamber music.

DREAMHOUSE OFFICE BUILDING

6. SEM. PROJECT

Dreamhouse is a 6th semester university project for a 3000 SQM new office building for the young business help program, Dreamhouse, located on the waterfront in Nørresundby north of Aalborg in Denmark. The concept of the Dreamhouse project is sharing of knowledge, experiences and ideas, the young new companies in between, via social relations. The new office building has open space decks with closed space laid out as islands with different functions such as printing room, powernap room, creative room and closed rooms for companies with the need. The design has roots in the Scandinavian style and based on the culture of the dreamhouse philosophy. MIXING VENTILATION

BETWEEN THE EARTH AND THE SKY A WELLNESS CENTRE I AALBORG WEST, DK

7. SEM. PROJECT

BETWEEN THE EARTH AND THE SKY: A poetic wellness centre in a glass monolithic box, almost carved out of one piece placed in the fiord in the western part of Aalborg. The pool is an organic landscape in concrete placed just above the waterline, creating an atmosphere as if you were swimming in the Fiord it self. Adopting a phenomenological approach, the exterior design creates an iconic image of the fiord line. Using Genius Loci as a reference point, the building both relates and responds to the surrounding settings. An open plan structure is achieved by using hollow columns to cover several serving functions, but also expressive spatial elements such as a helix stair that tapers outwards.

1500 VILLAS PROJECT IN CHONGQIN, CHINA 2006

BEI BEI AREA, CHONGQING, CHINA - A DANISH TOWN IN CHINA this project was a sketch and concept proposal for 1500 housing units in a new danish town Caijia Cluster in Beibei outside Chongqing. Design concept was different building typologies into one general idea, and thereby mixing different ways of living. The landscape in the area had a gentle slope so it was locally enhanced to create are more dramatic landscape and this was used to shape the buildings. The 1500 houses should be different apartment types and it was divided into appartments in a block, row houses, split-level houses, and villas. In combination with the housing programme public facilities such as kinder gardens, restaurants and sport facilities will be distributed throughout the development.

The Pavilion is designed by a group of architecture students at University of Aalborg. The pavilion is generated from a location in Venice between the Danish and the Nordic Pavilion. The characteristic parameters from the location are placed as planet forces in a particle flow computer program. These parameters stretch the volume until the wanted expression is achieved. Hereafter the form is optimized to construction. The Pavilion were transported to Venice were we set it up our self with a team of blacksmiths.

SKIDOME IN VEJLE, DK AT COBE 2007

CITY CENTRE

VEJLE, DK - SKIDOME, MEDIA, SHOPPING, OFFICE, PARKING AND LEISURE The Project is a typology where the volume below a indoor skidome is used for shopping, leisure, culture and offices. The Building will because of its location in the centre of Vejle together with a new cinema and another shopping mall “Bryggen“ be a dynamic centre of motion for inhabitants and visitors. The building is placed in the urban and green city band that connects the Fiord and the River through the city. Since the scheme for the building is an indoor skidome, the metaphor for the form of the building is thought of as an iceberg. Because of the scheme of the project was very large the main focus in the design was scaling the building down to human scale. This was done with the having different building scale in the building. One scale towards the railway and one scale where the building meets the city and the building is scaled down in the folding facade.

TIVOLI CPH COPENHAGEN, DK AT COBE 2007

PROGRAMMED BRIDGE OVER TIVOLI The project was a sketch project about a pedestrian bridge programmed with cafés, gift shops and so on over Tivoli. The initial problem is the placement of the 165 year old enclosed famous theme park Tivoli in the heart of Copenhagen. The park is surrounded by cafés, shops and a fence resulting in pedestrians having to walk all around. The two most important traffic points around Tivoli are the Copenhagen Central Station and the City Hall Square “Rådhuspladsen.” The Bridge was decided to go to these two points creating a dynamic shortcut, while opening the park to the city without having to enter the park. The program of the bridge was cafés and such to create a lively environment on the bridge and at the same time giving an income to Tivoli by the bridge. The structure of the bridge is tree strips folding.

MADKULTURHUS TILBYG. TIL STEGE GL. RÅDHUS OG ARREST, DK. 2010

MADKULTUSHUS V. STEGE GL.

GLITNIR BANK COMPETITION ON ICELAND AT COBE 2006

RENDER: MIR VISUALS

GLITNIR BANK: The concept of the building is the contrast between elements; between light and dark; between the cold outer glass skin and the warm wooden interior; and a contrast between the private restricted areas of the bank and the public plaza merging in the grandiose atrium. The construction with the hanging slab allows the area bellow to be column free, creating a unique spatial feeling when entering the bank. The lively space of the atrium and the branches below will affect the everyday life of the people working in the bank and its vicinity. The construction of the building is based on an inclined steel frame which uses a net of diagonal columns and an in situ reinforced concrete structure for floor slabs and the two cores. The two concrete cores provide access and lateral support to the building.

PHASE 1 - 2009

HOUSE OF CULTURE AND MOVEMENT: The proposal scales up the ambition of the urban proportions in order to maximize the impact of the development as an urban dynamo, integrating a dynamic program of the building with public space. The project aims to create a well-defined urban space embraced with an urban curtain, a facade that mediates the interior and the exterior of the urban setting. It identifies the collection of buildings and courtyards of the Spark plaza and at the same time it defines the urban conditions to the surroundings and marks the plot boundary as a maximized play zone. The building has 6 zones with a clear spatial identity and the play zone as a glue of the building, a 3-dimensional landscape that connects all other zones. CORE ZONES 11,5m
