2013 Allegheny Women’s Lacrosse Named after 1906 alum Andrew Wells Robertson, the state-of-the-art Robertson Athletic & Recreation Complex encompases the home facilities of the baseball, football, women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s soccer, softball, and tennis teams. Frank B. Fuhrer Field, located within the 203-acre Robertson Athletic Complex, was completely renovated in 2006. Fuhrer Field features a FieldTurf playing surface (the same surface used by many NFL teams), stadium lighting, full locker rooms, and an eight lane olympic style track. Originally known as College Field, the complex was named after Andrew Wells Robertson in 1962 to honor the year he was named Chairman Emeritus of the Allegheny Board of Trustees. Robertson purchased additional acreage along Park Ave. to supplement land originally donated in 1910 by John F. Eberhart (class of 1853). In addition to donating land, Robertson underwrote the cost of developing the athletic field. A beautiful and spacious venue for intercollegiate athletics, Robertson saw that the natural setting was preserved by having shrubbery and trees removed during construction replanted elsewhere on campus.
One of the most dominant landmarks on Allegheny’s campus, the David V. Wise Center was completed in 1997. The main part of the facility is the sports forum located on the upper level. Its 27,000 feet of open floor space is used by the softball team and other intercollegiate programs for year-round indoor training, while a three-lane, 200-meter indoor running track is suspended above the playing surface. A 2,500 square foot weight room is located just off the sports forum. The training facility includes free weights, resistance lifting, stationary bicycles, and a plethora of the latest fitness machines. In addition, the Wise Center swimming natatorium is located on the same level to provide additional cross-training training opportunities, while the close proximity to the program’s sports medicine facility ensures timely and adequate coverage during all softball-related activities.
In addition, Robertson Athletic Complex also includes one of the nation’s finest outdoor track and field facilities; 12 lighted tennis courts; and an NCAA championship-level cross country course. There are also 102 acres of woodlands, a picnic shelter and trails for outdoor recreation.

Head Coach Stephanie Janice Stephanie Janice is in her third season at the helm of the Allegheny College women’s lacrosse team. During her tenure, the squad has experienced drastically increased success and looks poised to continue their journey to the top of the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC). In 2012, the Gators finished the season with a 9-9 record, qualifying for the NCAC Tournament for the second straight season. Midfielder Kiah Voyer-Colbath made a splash in the record books, finishing a 59-goal, 16assist season with her second IWLCA All-West Region First-Team selection. Voyer-Colbath finished her Gator career second on the The Janice File all-time list in points, scoring 232 during her illustrious time at Allegheny. In total, five Gators earned All-NCAC honors in 2012. Education Few head coaches experience the success in their first season that Janice enjoyed as she guided the Gators to numerous program-firsts. The 2011 squad set new program records for consecutive wins (6) and wins in a season (12) en-route to a second-place regular season finish in the NCAC and the right to host their first NCAC Tournament game against the College of Wooster. In total, the 2011 team set or tied 16 program and conference game, season, and career records. The record-setting season produced a pair of Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-West Region performers in Voyer-Colbath and attacker Jensen Paterson. Paterson, who broke 11 records in 2011, was also named as an IWLCA All-American Third Team selection, becoming the first All-American in Allegheny women’s lacrosse history. The seventh head coach in the history of the Gator women’s lacrosse program, Janice took over the reins of the Allegheny program after spending two seasons as the assistant women’s lacrosse coach at Goucher College where she was primarily responsible for the attack unit and midfielders. She also played an integral role in all of the day-to-day aspects of running the Gophers’ Division III program by planning practice, implementing game strategies, and successful student-athlete recruitment. During her brief tenure at Goucher, she helped produce nine All-Conference players, and a pair of All-Region standouts. Janice, who hails from Southern New Jersey, and was a two-time high school All-American at Shawnee High School, is a 2007 graduate of Johns Hopkins University. She was a four-year starting midfielder for the Division I Blue Jays who, as a senior, was voted the team’s Unsung Hero by her teammates. A member of three NCAA Division I Championship Tournament teams, Janice’s play helped guide Johns Hopkins to the National Semifinals as a senior.

2013 Allegheny Women’s Lacrosse Featuring a roster packed with young talent and an experienced backline, the 2013 Allegheny women’s lacrosse squad seems poised to reclaim its place amongst the top contenders in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC). Led by third year head coach Stephanie Janice, the Gators come off of a 2012 campaign that resulted in a NCAC Tournament berth along with the second straight NCAC Offensive Player of the Year award. After Jensen Paterson ‘11 won the honor in Janice’s first season at the helm, Kiah Voyer-Colbath ‘12 used her 59-goal, 75-point season to earn Offensive Player of the Year plaudits in 2012.
The Gators finished 2012 with a 9-9 overall record, finishing 2-4 in conference play. Allegheny won its final two games of the season, including a dramatic, 11-10 win over Kenyon on Apr. 28. Needing a win to make the playoffs, Voyer-Colbath tallied the game-winner with 18 seconds remaining to vault Allegheny into the postseason. However, top-seeded Wittenberg would end the Gators’ post-season dreams with a 12-5 decision in the NCAC semifinals. “Last year the team felt like they still had more to prove when we lost in the conference tournament,” Janice commented on the 2012 campaign. “We dropped two tight contests in sudden death overtime we felt like we should have won during the regular season, so the returners have a lot of experience in highly contested games and they will really apply that maturity they gained last season to play with more urgency this year.” Anchoring the experienced defensive line will be senior captain Noelle Brouillard, leading five returning Allegheny defenders. In 2012, Brouillard started all 18 games for the Gators, recording 20 ground balls. “This defensive unit will be really fun to watch. The best thing about this group is that they know each other so well and can really anticipate what each other are going to do. They really support each other as a unit and will be relied upon to start our attack.” Complimenting Brouillard on the defensive line will be third year captain Kelly Cribby along juniors Carly Minsterman, and Anna Koebley. Minsterman, who started 17 games in goal last season, reverts back to her natural defender position, hoping to replicate the success she found in her 2011 debut, when she played in all 18 games for the Gators, recording six goals and nine ground balls. Sophomore and second team All-NCAC selection Sara Schwartz finished fourth on the team with 41 ground balls during her freshman campaign, adding 11 caused turnovers while tallying a goal. Cribby recorded 17 ground balls and three draw controls in 2012, starting in all 18 games for the Gators. Koebley caused seven turnovers while grabbing 20 ground balls in 17 starts for Allegheny. Leading the charge on the offensive end will be junior captain Kelly Dickson and sophomore Kelsey Rodgers, who combined for 75 goals, 14 assists and 89 points last season. Rodgers, also a second-team All-NCAC selection, was the third highest scorer on the team and boasted a 40.9 percent shooting percentage.
Dickson tallied a career-high five goals in a 16-5 win over Saint Vincent on Apr. 11, finishing the season scoring 37 goals and three game-winners with a 78.9 shots on goal percentage. “Kelly has shown a lot of promise this fall as the quarterback of the attack and she is poised for another great season. Kelsey will expand on her role as a midfielder and bring a lot of threats in transition, attack and on the draw circle.” “We will also add nine freshmen to the mix, so they bring a lot of potential to the team and it will be fun to see who steps up on attack. Makenzie Bell and Jacqueline Morrow have a knack for finishing and sees the field well, while Gusty Mead will also be called on for offensive production.” Rodgers will also help anchor a young midfield line that will see several first year Gators move into the roles left vacant by departing seniors. “Alyssa Rapelje, Anna Doten and Caren Lee will all compete for time on the field. They are adjusting to our defensive systems and integrating to our offensive sets so we are excited to see what they can do going both ways.” The starting spot in the net is open for the taking as three Allegheny freshmen will square off in the pre-season for the starting spot as first years Chloe Kedziora, Eliza Morgan and Christina Perez will compete for playing time, “We are really excited about the goalkeeper race this season with Morgan, Perez, and Kedziora all competing for the starting spot. They had a great fall season and got accustomed to the college pace and our defensive sets. I look forward to their continued improvement through pre-season.” “They all bring different strengths to the position so depending on our opponent and scouting report, we could potentially see multiple Gator goalies getting playing time every game which is a huge asset. They have a great work ethic and push each other every day so it’s exciting to see what they can bring to our defensive unit as a whole.” The Gators open the 2013 campaign on Feb. 21 against Thiel. Allegheny opens the season with three home games in the first four, capped with a match against Frostburg State on Mar. 9. The Gators enter NCAC play on Mar. 30, as defending league champion Denison will take on Allegheny at the Robertson Complex. With another difficult schedule on the docket and a team with a great deal of potential, Coach Janice looks at the 2013 season with a high degree of optimism as the Gators are poised to make a splash in the NCAC. “Something we are really focusing on this year is competing and all that comes with it. Being sharp and focused no matter what the circumstances is one of our goals and this schedule gives us that challenge.” “The great aspect of our schedule is that we have some new opponents along with the storied rivalries we look forward to every year in our conference. Anyone can win on any given day, so we will prepare for every opponent thoroughly and put forth our best effort.”

Founded in 1983, the North Coast Athletic Conference is dedicated to fostering a complementary relationship between intercollegiate athletics and the pursuit of academic excellence. Consisting of ten academically selective colleges and universities in Ohio, Illinois, Indiana and Pennsylvania — Allegheny College, DePauw University, Denison University, Hiram College, Kenyon College, Oberlin College, Ohio Wesleyan University, Wabash College, Wittenberg University and The College of Wooster. Starting this season, DePauw University has joined the NCAC as a full member — the NCAC believes that high-level athletic programs need not be sacrificed in order to meet rigid academic standards.
Delaware, Ohio
Significantly, all ten NCAC institutions have been granted chapters of Phi Beta Kappa, the preeminent honor society for colleges and universities. Only 270 of the more than 3,000 four-year institutions in the United States have been so honored.
Wittenberg Univ.
A member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s Division III, the NCAC features championship competition in 22 sports — 11 for men and 11 for women. The 11 women’s sports are the most offered by any Division III conference, and the equality in number and emphasis between men’s and women’s athletics is just one of the elements that sets the North Coast apart.
Ohio Wesleyan Univ.

College of Wooster Wooster, Ohio
The goals of the conference express the best aspirations of American amateur athletics. The NCAC brings together a group of institutions which share a common allegiance to academic quality and to the conduct of athletics so as to support the educational purpose. Intercollegiate athletics can and should complement academic life, rather than compete with it, and sports should enhance the experience of students during their college years. This type of academic and athletic commitment has been led by the 10 school presidents, who have taken an active role in the governance of the conference. The NCAC’s commitment to equity, its broad base of athletic programs, and an unwavering insistence on excellence in academics has served as a model for conferences throughout the country. The North Coast has shown not only that these ideals can coexist, but that they can flourish. The NCAC continues as a pace-setter in the 21st century.
