As an IT service provider, quindata contributes to the economic success of the Raiffeisen Group with its SAP infrastructure. In order to keep pace with the constantly expanding volume to be handled by its SAP system, quindata decided to undertake an SAP upgrade and modernize its SAP infrastructure. The company had various goals in mind: T o strengthen its ability to compete in the marketplace by introducing a very scalable SAP infrastructure that would make it possible to handle future challenges as they arise T o streamline and enhance the high-availability configuration and administration (replacement of the cluster configuration previously in place) T o reduce operating costs SERVICE-ORIENTED IT INFRASTRUCTURE FOR SAP
In order to continue to be able to contribute to the economic success of the Raiffeisen companies, quindata decision-makers decided to put in place a service-oriented IT infrastructure. And they opted for a seamless SAP operating concept – FlexFrame™ for SAP® from Fujitsu. Following deployment of FlexFrame for SAP with an update to Version 4.2A, further innovative steps were also taken – for example, included migration from Solaris to Linux and integration of the PRISMA®net spooling system from Océ into the FlexFrame-solution. In the storage area, NetApp tools replaced the previous systems, and the release change from SAP R/3 Enterprise 4.7 to SAP ERP 6.0 then added the final touch to the project. In addition, PRIMERGY Rack and Blade Servers provided a noticeable improvement in the performance of the overall application landscape. And, finally, virtualization and automation combine to ensure highavailability management, dynamic workload balancing, convenient administration and lower operating costs in the area of SAP operations.

QUINDATA MEETS HIGH DEMAND WITH FLEXFRAME FOR SAP
QUINDATA’S OPERATIONS BECOME MORE PRODUCTIVE UND MORE ECONOMICAL
quindata GmbH’s clients include member companies of the Raiffeisen Group, which market an extremely diverse range of products, including, for example, everything from heating oil to hydraulic filters, seed and reinforced concrete. For clients like Raiffeisen-Warenzentrale KurhessenThuringia GmbH, quindata develops one-of-a-kind SAP solutions tailored to the needs of the wholesale and retail sectors, such as the industryspecific modules SAP Agriculture, SAP Building Materials, SAP Energy and SAP Technology. The demand for SAP applications is steadily increasing, and Raiffeisen-Warenzentrale in Kassel alone accounts for approximately 1,000 SAP users, of which 600 are permanent users. This high demand was one reason behind the decision to update and expand IT resources with the help of Wincor Nixdorf as general contractor for implementation and Fujitsu as the tried-and-tested technology provider. “We wanted to avoid interfaces and that’s why we deliberately opted for a total solution from a single competent ‘tandem,’ is how Managing Director Lars Prüssing explains the criteria for choosing quindata. Other factors that drove quindata’s decision were the unequalled quality and innovation offered by the preferred solution – FlexFrame for SAP. Due to increasing demands made on resources, a seamless operating concept was implemented on the basis of a modern, high-performance SAP platform with a performance index that comes to an impressive 200,000 SAPS. Deployment of Linux as the operating system involved no problems whatsoever, and NetApp systems were implemented for central storage at the same time. And, last but far from least, PRIMERGY Blade and Rack Servers deliver the performance it takes to achieve maximum availability.
quindata achieved its goals – migration from Solaris to Linux and a system-wide upgrade to SAP ECC 6.0 – right on schedule. “Productive operation with FlexFrame for SAP after installation proved very reliable and has met our expectations,” says Lars Prüssing, Managing Director of quindata GmbH. This Fujitsu client praised not only the efficient project management and successful implementation but also the results in actual practice. For example, application management is now significantly simpler and more efficient. One reason for that is that FlexFrame for SAP provides a seamless management concept for the entire IT infrastructure. A single administration tool integrates the tasks and responsibilities for SAP services, the operating system, servers, network and storage. Services can now be easily moved among physical and virtual servers to make optimal use of resources. quindata’s Lars Prüssing sums up the bottom line:

“ F LEXFRAME GIVES US THE FLEXIBILIY IT TAKES TO ACCOMMODATE INCREASING DEMANDS. REPLACEMENT OF THE OLD CLUSTER CONFIGURATION BY AUTOMATED HIGH-AVAILABILITY MANAGEMENT FOR ALL SAP AND DATABASE SERVICES WITH ONLY A FEW SPARE SERVERS AND THE POSSIBILITY OF INEXPENSIVE MODIFICATION AND EXPANSION ALSO CONTRIBUTE SIGNIFICANTLY TO THE ECONOMY OF OUR SERVICE OFFERING.”
In addition, the client benefits from significantly lower energy consumption and the fact that the response time for SAP applications has been reduced from 500ms to 300ms.
