WHY ARE THE HOOK AND WULF FAMILIES WORKING TOGETHER?

Honestly analyzing talents and resources along with business goals, it becomes obvious a TEAM pulling in the same direction can accomplish more than an individual effort. Jim and Tom have known each other since meeting as teenagers showing cattle at the MN State Fair 4-H show in the mid 1970’s. While each was passionate about their breed of cattle, there was a mutual respect for how each competed: fairly and honestly. Through the decades, the beef industry and specifically the seedstock business would cause their paths to cross and the same mutual respect for each family’s growing operations was shared. When Jim and Twyla decided to make a business decision to purchase their own ranch, Tom was contacted to consult about purchasing Simmental seedstock. The two families have been working cooperatively together, while keeping their individual ownership and operations.

WHY COWS AT WULF’S AND BULLS GAIN TESTED AT HOOK’S?

Once you lay eyes on the rolling glacial ridge pastures and ranch where the Wulf’s live, one is hard pressed to find a better cow/calf environment and set-up in the upper Midwest. Couple this with Wulf’s 40+ years’ experience in seedstock production; it makes sense to run both families’ cows together increasing the contemporary group size and subsequent accuracy. Having a good feed supply and existing lot space, Hook’s was the logical site to develop the bulls and gather all the scan , DNA and performance information as they were one of the first in the Simmental breed to provide this data for their customers.

The sale will be broadcast on TV screen in the auction ring. No live cattle will come to the ring for the auction. Please come early to view the cattle and make your selections. Videos of cattle selling available online prior to sale day at www.hookfarms.com and www.alliedonlinesales.com

HERD HEALTH

All animals selling have a negative Johnes test or their dam tested negative in our herds’ extensive Johnes testing program. Consult the owners or our Veterinary team if you desire more information about our supervised vaccination and testing programs. All animals selling will be accompanied with health papers for shipment anywhere in the United States.

GENETIC DEFECTS

All animals selling are free of Arthrogryposis Multiplex (AM), Neuropathic Hydrocephalus NH) and ContracturalArachnodactyl (CA). Lots 34, 41 and 44 do carry a positive test for Developmental Duplication(DD).

RETAINED SEMEN INTEREST

We are retaining 1/3 semen interest in all bulls selling in this 2015 Bred For Balance sale.

We will offer $50 off per head if you haul your female purchase(s) sale day. We will offer $150 off per head if you haul your bull purchase(s) sale day. For females not hauled sale day, we will deliver females free to central points the week following the sale. For bulls not hauled sale day, we will feed your bull at no charge until April 1rst. A breeding soundness exam (BSE) will be performed and bulls will be delivered free to central points after April 1st. We highly recommend bulls left for free boarding/feed be insured as the sellers assume no liability for loss or injury.

DEFINITIONS OF TERMS

Expected Progeny Differences (EPDs): EPDs are the most accurate and effective tool available for comparing gentic levels. Birth Weight (BW): Pounds of birth weight. Calving Ease (CE); Percent of unassisted births when used on heifers. Carcass Weight (CW): Pounds of carcass weight. Maternal Calving Ease (MCE): Percent of unassisted birth in first-calving daughters. Milk (MM): Pounds of weaning weight due to milk and growth. Marbling (MARB): Marbling score. Maternal Weaning Weight (MWW): Pounds of weaning weight due to milk and growth. Ribeye Area (REA): Square inches of ribeye. Shear Force (SF): Pounds of force required to shear a steak. Terminal Index (TI): Dollars per cow exposed under a terminal-sire scenario. Weaning Weight (WW): Pounds weaning weight. Yearling Weight (YW): Pounds of yearling weight. Yield Grade (YG): Yield grade score.
