WELCOME TO THE SALE... RAISING CATTLE WITH THE VALUE OF HETEROSIS SINCE 1984 Welcome to our Inaugural Angus and SimAngus™ bull and heifer sale. We have been raising and selling our SimAngus™ bulls for 15 years as a multiplier with the Powerline Genetics Group and selling our Angus bulls for eight years, in a bull test station setting and as a guest consignor with a fellow Angus breeder. We sincerely appreciate the experiences and opportunities these avenues awarded us but we felt the time was right for us to offer our entire crop of bulls, Angus and SimAngus™, and a select group of SimAngus™ heifers in our own production sale in 2018. As always, we continue to work hard to produce the very best genetics we can that will help our fellow cattlemen to improve their herds in order to be more profitable themselves. We strive not to single trait select. We want cattle that have moderate birth weights with no calving difficulties, that have good growth through weaning to yearling age. Cattle that will have performance in the feeding to finish aspect so as to be profitable for the feeder. Cattle that will hang a high quality, high yielding carcass on the rail. The ultimate goal in this business is to provide a product that will offer the consumer a pleasurable dining experience. Cattle that if a producer retains his females that they will be fertile, easy fleshing, docile and have adequate milk for his resources. We look for females that are moderate framed, long bodied and have natural thickness. Structurally they have to be sound. Our cows make a living in the sand hills. The offering we have selected to sell this year are among the best we have raised. The sires represented are some of the best in the business. Offering calving ease, which several are suitable for first calf heifers. Growth bulls with above average carcass traits and bulls that cover all of the economic traits. The daughters sired by these bulls will make wonderful cows. We surely like our Angus cattle, and we think you will too. They offer calving ease, growth, maternal, feedlot efficiency, excellent carcass traits. But if your looking for the heterosis boost to add to your herd study our offering of polled black SimAngus™ bulls. Use them as a terminal cross or retain the daughters. Oh the daughters! They will be feminine with natural thickness, fertile, moderate framed with beautiful udders and a higher butterfat content to their milk that will increase your weaning weights in your future calf crops. We are also offering 20 polled black SimAngus™ heifers. They are on a complete health program and have been Bangs vaccinated. They are all registered, but we are offering them as commercial. If you purchase a heifer and want her registered, please tell the ladies when you settle up that you do so and we will register them and transfer them to you at no extra cost. We think they are a very good group of heifers that will add value to anyone’s herd. It was a difficult decision to part with these heifers. The last 10 days of March we will start delivering the cattle, free in Nebraska. Any out of state deliveries we will make arrangements to deliver as reasonable as possible. If you make arrangements with us to keep any purchased livestock past April 1st the cost will be $2.50/day. If you choose to take your purchased animal home with you the day of the sale, we will deduct $50 from the purchase price. Sale will be broadcast live on the internet at CATTLE USA. Application for buyer number needs to be approved the week prior to March 3rd.
FIRST BREEDING SEASON GUARANTEE
Bulls selling for $3,000 or more are guaranteed against a breeding injury during their first breeding season. The breeding season is defined as the 60-day period following the first turnout of the purchased bull. Please notify us as soon as possible when an injury occurs and has been diagnosed by a licensed Veterinarian and prior to the injured bull being sold. A copy of the sales receipt must be received by Mason Angus and SimAngus for proper credit. All claims must be made by Sept 1, 2018. If a replacement is available one will be provided. Otherwise you will be given a credit of the purchase price, less a salvage value of $1500, multiplied by 50% to be used in a future sale. Example: A $4000 bull is injured. ($4000 - $1500) x %50 = $1250 Example: A $2900 bull is injured. (No credit given.) Buyer retains all salvage value. This does not cover against mismanagement or neglect. We do not cover injuries sustained prior to the breeding season if the bull is turned out with other bulls. Mortality insurance is suggested.

SEMEN INTEREST
Mason Angus and SimAngus will retain 1/3 semen interest in all bulls selling. Buyer receives full possession and salvage value.
DELIVERY
A $50 discount will be given per head if picked up the day of the sale or the following day. This has to be, determined at time of settlement. We will make arrangements to deliver in Nebraska with a goal of being delivered by April 1st. Arrangements can be made to keep bulls or heifers past April 1st for $2.50 per day.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Terms of the sale are cash. All animals will be sold to the highest bidder. Changes in the catalog will be announced sale day and will take precedence over printed material in the catalog. A supplement sheet with updated information will be provided sale day. All cattle are the buyer’s property as soon as sold and will be cared for at the buyer’s risk. Any person attending the sale does so at their own risk. Neither, the sale management, owners, or sale facility will be held liable for any injuries. Not liable for any inaccuracies.

HERD HEALTH
Total herd health is provided by Broken Bow Animal Hospital. All bulls have been fertility examined and deemed Satisfactory Breeders. Scrotal measurements were done by BBAH.
VIEWING
All bulls and heifers can be viewed, at anytime prior to the sale at Mason Angus and SimAngus Ranch. Ranch located 2 ½ miles North, 2 ½ miles East, and 1/12 miles North of Anselmo, NE. The sale animals will be available for viewing anytime after 12:00 Noon Friday, March 2nd at Broken Bow Livestock sale facility.

CALVING EASE DIRECT (CED), is expressed as a difference in percentage of unassisted births, with a higher value indicating greater calving ease in first-calf heifers. It predicts the average difference in ease with which a sire’s calves will be born when he is bred to first-calf heifers. BIRTH WEIGHT EPD (BW EPD), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit birth weight to his progeny compared to that of other sires. WEANING WEIGHT EPD (WW EPD), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit weaning growth to his progeny compared to that of other sires. YEARLING WEIGHT EPD (YW EPD), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit yearling growth to his progeny compared to that of other sires. RESIDUAL AVERAGE DAILY GAIN (RADG), expressed in pounds per day, is a predictor of a sire’s genetic ability for postweaning gain in future progeny compared to that of other sires, given a constant amount of feed consumed.

MATERNAL MILK EPD (MILK), is a predictor of a sire’s genetic merit for milk and mothering ability as expressed in his daughters compared to daughters of other sires. In other words, it is that part of a calf’s weaning weight attributed to milk and mothering ability. COW ENERGY VALUE ($EN), expressed in dollars savings per cow per year, assesses differences in cow energy requirements as an expected dollar savings difference in daughters of sires. A larger value is more favorable when comparing two animals (more dollars saved on feed energy expenses). Components for computing the cow $EN savings difference include lactation energy requirements and energy costs associated with differences in mature cow size.

CARCASS WEIGHT EPD (CW), expressed in pounds is a predictor of the differences in hot carcass weight of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires. MARBLING EPD (MARB), expressed as a fraction of the difference in USDA marbling score of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires. RIBEYE AREA EPD (RE), expressed in square inches, is a predictor of the difference in ribeye area of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires. FAT THICKNESS EPD (FAT), expressed in inches, is a predictor of the differences in external fat thickness at the 12th rib (as measured between the 12th and 13th ribs) of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires.
$VALUE INDEXES
$Value indexes are multi-trait selection indexes, expressed in dollars per head, to assist beef producers by adding simplicity to genetic selection decisions. The $Value is an estimate of how future progeny of each sire are expected to perform, on average, compared to progeny of other sires in the database if the sires were randomly mated to cows and if calves were exposed to the same environment. WEANED CALF VALUE ($W), an index value expressed in dollars per head, is the expected average difference in future progeny performance for preweaning merit. $W includes both revenue and cost adjustments associated with differences in birth weight, weaning direct growth, maternal milk, and mature cow size. FEEDLOT VALUE ($F), an index value expressed in dollars per head, is the expected average difference in future progeny performance for postweaning merit compared to progeny of other sires. GRID VALUE ($G), an index value expressed in dollars per head, is the expected average difference in future progeny performance for carcass grid merit compared to progeny of other sires. BEEF VALUE ($B), an index value expressed in dollars per head, is the expected average difference in future progeny performance for postweaning and carcass value compared to progeny of other sires.
