As women who’ve all gotten married in the past 5 years, we at AllieRuth can truly say that this is the most meaningful and beautiful experience you’ll ever embark on. Not the wedding part—though that will be fun, exciting (and even tough, at times)—the marriage part. That will also be so fun, exciting (and tough, at times). We just love marriage. As you begin the process of choosing the paper that will give your guests a hint at your big day, we really want to make it simple for you. That’s why we’ve created this system, and the very catalog you’re reading now. This part of the process is a small step in a much larger journey, and we want to help you get to the really important part—your new life with the one you love. So, take a minute and flip through the suites. The whole collection has been curated to flow, seamlessly. We encourage you to incorporate your own personality into your wedding invites! That’s why we’ve opened up so many options for customization. You can really make these speak about you, as a couple. What we’re really trying to say is congratulations (or, is it best wishes?) Hand Lettered for You Personalizing an invitation suite with calligraphy is my absolute favorite part of the design process. When I sit down to write out a bride and groom’s names into a beautiful crest, a lot of thought goes into composition of those two names, specifically, and how they fit together, and play off of each other. My job is to showcase them in the best light. The process is time intensive… writing, re-writing (and often, rewriting again) until I get the look just right, and then importing that art that was done by hand on paper into a digital medium. I love that it’s different every single time I sit down to do calligraphy, and that’s what keeps me at it.

Pressed and Printed with Care Letterpress printing is a hundred-year-old process which employs a big, cast iron printing press to literally “press� a plastic plate, which we custom-order with your invitation text, into the paper. First, the ink, in your color choice, is mixed by hand using careful attention to color and proportions. Each sheet or card is fed, by hand, one-by-one into the press, requiring time, patience, and precision on the part of the operator. The end result is a slightly impressed image in the cotton paper, which gives your invites a pillowy feel. This is revered as one of the most luxurious printing methods in the invitation world. Digital printing is a method we use in which the paper is run through high tech print equipment, producing a crisp, flat image on the paper. Digital printing is the most economical way to go on a full invitation suite, or a great way to inject pattern and lots of color to letterpress-printed pieces. 6

Timeless Details Bringing pieces of the past into relevant works of the present is something we’ve always been part of, here at AllieRuth. We believe these vintage details can ground an invitation suite, helping to give it that timeless appeal that we so love. Should you choose a postcard for your Save the Date or Reply option, we would love the opportunity to custom-source a true vintage postcard image to complete the look. We scour the internet (and local antiques stores, sometimes!) to find just the right little piece of history, and use it to inject soulfulness into the final printed card. We can source the image based on your ceremony or reception venue, city/town, or somewhere you and your beloved find meaningful. Many of our pattern options come from historic sources, as well. Whether it’s a floral from Allie’s personal collection of vintage wallpapers or otherwise, you can be certain our inspiration is well-rooted.

You’ll notice that some patterns come with a specific set of complementary color and envelope choices. We’ve taken the guess work out of choosing what coordinates best, so you can rest assured that whichever selection you choose from our palette will be the perfect fit. A note on choosing a second color: When a two-color printing option is selected, keep in mind that the second color you’re choosing will be either the color of the wreath (if you’ve decided to add one) OR the color of your names on the invitation (if you have decided against a crest). Foil stamping is a specialty printing process that uses heat, pressure, metal dies and foil film. When printed, the metallic foils have a shiny, lustrous finish, and can often have an embossed feel, much like letterpress. 36

Dip-Dyed by Hand We mix the dye into water, watching the pigments swirl until just the right wash of color is created. Then we carefully and swiftly dip the paper into the dye, which causes organic variation between each piece. This beauty-marked paper then dries on a line in the sun. We don’t iron our dip-dyed paper flat, as we love to preserve the unique texture that hints at its handcrafted origins.
